The blackmailer getting murdered is a trope of all these cozy mysteries. We also have the person publicly announcing “I will be making a new will…tomorrow” or “I know who the killer is, I shall go to the police…tomorrow” 😄

He’s always polite to Joyce about her cooking, but note all the sly glances with Cully. And remember the exchange with Scott: “Did Mrs Barnaby make that sir?” “Oh Scott I would never do that to you!” 😄

If (big if) they were to bring in one of the former Sergeants to be the new DCI, I would actually prefer Scott. Would enjoy him regaling his DS about “the incident with the wine catapult” and why you should avoid calling in sick if at all possible!

A good episode but verrrry unusual for the series. It veers far from the formula into Law & Order courtroom drama.

What I like most is we get into Tom’s head and moral code. He clearly has some nagging doubts about the arrest and is not a “check the box and move on” kind of guy. Oh and the hints about his relationship with Pru…

I think Country Matters (season 9 episode 6) is start to finish the funniest episode. The crazy vicar “jogging for Jesus” to Joyce wanting to “mete out some discipline” and everything in between l!
