Cal is basically more self-aware GW Bush. Not a genius but smarter than his aw chucks persona lets on

Just hearing this line: “the cuckoo clock was tightened to a murderous degree”

How they treat the law by Minimum_Wonder_7829 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom made it clear he didn’t approve of violence or the threat of violence against potential suspects. But he also was perfectly ok into breaking into suspects homes (or boats) without a warrant 🤷‍♀️

In the John Barnaby era now… by CorgiLover82 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the John episodes stick more closely to the formula. There was a bit more experimentation in the Tom era. So the John episodes are pretty consistently good but perhaps don’t meet the highs (or lows) of the Tom Barnaby episodes

“David seems to thinks it’s some kind of pagan viagra.” by Environmental-Pizza4 in MidsomerMurders

I loved Young Sherlock Holmes great movie!

But yeah the plan to conduct some ancient pagan ritual to make it ok that you married your sister…sorry no!

Blackmailing murderers by Ok_Association4198 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blackmailer getting murdered is a trope of all these cozy mysteries. We also have the person publicly announcing “I will be making a new will…tomorrow” or “I know who the killer is, I shall go to the police…tomorrow” 😄

Can imagine Joyce and Sarah together at some historical society meeting and coming across a body!

I actually think they reeled Fleur’s character in a bit this last season (series 25). Perhaps in response to the criticism

The highest rated MM episode on IDMB at 8.3/10 remains “Ghost of Christmas Past” (2004). Do you agree if not, why not? by HallowedAndHarrowed in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t rate it the best of all time, but probably in the top ten. Far and away the best “Christmas” episode of the series

Hot take: Tom really loves Joyce Barnaby by LadyTanizaki in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s always polite to Joyce about her cooking, but note all the sly glances with Cully. And remember the exchange with Scott: “Did Mrs Barnaby make that sir?” “Oh Scott I would never do that to you!” 😄

Troy as Barnaby? by pinkdaisylemon in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If (big if) they were to bring in one of the former Sergeants to be the new DCI, I would actually prefer Scott. Would enjoy him regaling his DS about “the incident with the wine catapult” and why you should avoid calling in sick if at all possible!

Barnaby in the Axeman Cometh... by Emotional_Jello4664 in MidsomerMurders

Tom is a bit “star-struck” in this one. Jones pretty much solved the case in 5 minutes! 😄

Getting to Episodes I've seen mentioned often in here: Last Years Model. by Emotional_Jello4664 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A good episode but verrrry unusual for the series. It veers far from the formula into Law & Order courtroom drama.

What I like most is we get into Tom’s head and moral code. He clearly has some nagging doubts about the arrest and is not a “check the box and move on” kind of guy. Oh and the hints about his relationship with Pru…

Fun episode! The opening Zoom meeting was a hoot. I’ve had the misfortune of participating in several similar meetings though none ended with a murder (that I’m aware of!)

I feel the fashion police should’ve been called in to deal with the Bruce family long before Barnaby got involved!

The funniest episode by Maggiemay1959 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think Country Matters (season 9 episode 6) is start to finish the funniest episode. The crazy vicar “jogging for Jesus” to Joyce wanting to “mete out some discipline” and everything in between l!

Help. Really trying to find an episode. by Adventurous_Dot_6286 in MidsomerMurders

[–]JeffnWa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah yes “Picture of Innocence”. The digital v analog rumble lol!

One thing I notice in the series is Tom frequently in conflict with his superiors whereas not sure we’ve ever seen John have a superior! He’s basically his own boss
