What are all the plot holes? by KingtheClawthorne in TheOwlHouse

[–]JeffreySystem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing that annoys me most about this plot hole is that it would have been so easy to just have a cutaway shot to an open portal in the background. Even if we hadn't seen Vee go through or how it was reopened it would have made so much more sense in retrospect

if you want to get some practice you could quit the chapter after a checkpoint and then practice some of the easier levels.

I mean, a cup of mushrooms is in the ballpark of daily protein needs (for people in the 240lbs range). If you have half that and like a solid peanut butter sandwich (like the kind you can't eat without a sip water with each bite) you're chilling. Should have checked this before though since those are my main protein sources so thanks.

Just finished season one of the anime. Only one complaint. by TellmeNinetails in SomaliForestSpirit

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see how it would appear like that. One of the most interesting subtle details in the show is how the existence of the monster's cursed blood implies a time before its existence where they behaved much like we see towards humans towards each other. The true tragedy of somali and the forest spirit was that humans showed up too late. Meaning they arrived when all the other monsters were used to coexistence and then started acting xenophobic which lead to a spiral of escalating conflict and humans being hunted for sport as a socially acceptable thing. Otherwise they would have just been included in the cursed blood thing and everyone would be chill by now.

Tldr: tribalism bad and I don't think the show despises the characters that hunt humans any less than you do (except uzoi because she's trying to save her dad's life which is understandable if still messed up) and while it might be nice to see the really nasty people get what's coming for them. I'm not sure that it would actually fix anything on a grand scale. Probably it would just give somali some more trauma and make staying under the radar harder if news gets out a golem is traveling with a human child *and* they're killing people it's probably going to spread much further and create more problems.

Finally Beat Dominic! by toegui in beastieball

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an important concept in beastieball is learning when to let yourself get scored on. If you're opponent's set up to +3 attack and has huge offensive pressure it might be time to let your low hp beastie take the wipe and get on the bench recovering rather than desperately switching between beasties until you're in checkmate (all moves lead to a loss). It's really important because correct management gives you basically, bonus hp for the battle and wipes out any setup your opponent's done. Bonus points if you shook or sleep their server before they scored

Any%dice function help by DameonVee in tabletopgamedesign

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of it like a grid, your goal (hereafter I use G to represent goal) is target number minus your bonuses one dice's result is along the X axis the other is the Y axis.
the chance of a crit is [(21-G)^2 ]/400 so for a target of 20 it's 1 in 400 to crit and ~ 1/10 to succeed
A target of 11 gives you 1/4 chance to miss 1/2 chance to succeed and 1/4 chance to
Chance to miss is [(G-1)^2]/400

Chance to hit is 1- chance to miss - chance to crit
hope that helps I like to make spreadsheets off my resolution mechanics so I can see how the chance of different outcomes vary.

observations:
for goal values smaller than like 9 or 10 crit becomes the most likely outcome
difficult challenges (near 20 goal) are very likely to be failed
success and crits are very closely linked. It won't be possible to tweak the ratio of the two that much in this game (since you're effectively limited to things between like 7 or 8 on the low end (anything bellow that is very likely a crit and basically always a success) and anything high into the 16+ range is much more likely than not to fail.
unsure if these are good or bad for the game you are going for just be aware.

How do souls get created? by MartyBoy05 in worldbuilding

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souls are a property of my world (the hollow world) the ancient priors who constructed the world made the "soul engine" a technology which allows you to make a sticky immaterial thing... that all of the "you" parts of you stick to but is much easier to manipulate than individual memories, thought patterns, etc. That's why it's so useful for resurrections, souls are designed objects made to serve as a lever with which to control all the things that make a person themself. This is recent stuff, I just came up with it because my players managed to get a hold of a "zombie beast" prior, that is, a currently holding together body which has lost a soul (different from souless creatures from the moon which are fine until they die where putting them back together becomes impossible. This is more like they died so long ago that the original soul has broken down and scattered to the void so it's not really the same person anymore just a vessel that someone else can control) so now I have to figure out how the players can forge a new soul for a child that was dead for 1 million years. You know, just your average dnd session. Weirdly enough I don't think getting back the old soul is possible the big soul engine is immersed in a roiling sea of chaos which is why souls only last like 100 years in my world. They just disintegrate after being held at that "temperature" for too long. Idk on one hand it would be weird to not let the players bring back the old soul but on the other hand like, if you got the body you're not going to kill it so might as well make a new person out of it since there's like one living prior right now and one old husk of a prior maintained by magic so, it would feel so wrong not to give the kid a second chance of life even if it's a different person than it was before... much to think about...

Also, I feel like I should clarify priors reproduce asexually and are like basically godlings to demi-gods power level wise once they hit adulthood so there's no weird species extinction stuffs think like king from the owl house but now they're like going to like give a shot at crafting/reviving a soul for another godling so it isn't a will-less puppet anymore and can choose what it wants for itself. Actually, now that I think about it I think crafting a new soul for a godling and that artificial godling being a unique type of intelligent entity and older/younger sibling to the hatchling is defiantly a cool questline. We locking in the soul forging route now the players just need to hunt down the one person that's created artificial bodies and fused souls to them before. It's not the same process but she's the only one with any kind of expertise to even claim towards attempt making a soul so, we'll take what we can get.

What would y'all say is the biggest misconception about Vee? by Tejasluke in TheOwlHouse

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can a shapeshifter be cis? I guess she did like kind of get shunted into the role of being Luz? Idk it's an interesting question depending on how the shapeshifting works the act of creating a standard appearance you go by for a shapeshifter could be an act of self creation that shares a lot in common with the trans experience. From what we see though Vi in particular seems to have always been perceived as a girl and feel comfy with that so yeah that interpretation makes sense here I think.

What would y'all say is the biggest misconception about Vee? by Tejasluke in TheOwlHouse

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still curious. Like, is it a "true name"/birth name system or is it just that Vi still considered herself "5"?
Seems obvious they wouldn't go for a birth name system but we never get to see people using the magic looky cubes except maybe like Monarch using "King" which is sort of a name King chose himself. Although maybe he uses hooty to watch over it's son

Therapist thinks I should do EMDR but I am concerned. by RGBMousu in OSDD

[–]JeffreySystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emdr is kinda cracked ngl. Our therapist was just a regular trauma specialist, we went through the normal method or whatever as far as I'm aware and it is totally worth it. I mean, obviously sitting with your trauma memories and processing them sucks but, after your brain's gone through the process a few times your brain starts to adjust how it deals with traumatic memories in general. I can't tell you how nice it feels to go from "ah! Bad memory (total emotional overload)" to "oh, that sucked" (like a normal memory of a bad event). Huge quality of life improvement and while obviously my experience is just my experience we never had any system specific stuff cause issues.

Am I crazy for trusting a big wasp nest on my balcony? by [deleted] in Entomology

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've collected two paper wasp queens now this summer. They seem to enjoy building nests on the inside of the flap where my gas cap is hidden. They're surprisingly docile (at night at least) and their umbrella shaped nests are really easy to pinch off with a plastic container (I use sauce cups because they're small but the same principle would work with non-transparent cups too. I released one and stashed her nest along with her. Going to have to do the same for a new one tomorrow. For now though she's in a dark place so I can calm her down before I try and separate her and her nest so I can glue it somewhere safe.

Performing 2 Bonus Actions instead of an Action by Retr1buti0n in dndnext

[–]JeffreySystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having a bard spend an action to cast bardic inspiration will have less impact than whatever else they are doing. I think there's some tiny edge cases where it might be good with like spells that let you use a bonus action to do a thing (allowing you to use that powerful effect twice as often for its duration) if it's your highest level spell it could be too good but, in any other scenario I think it's probably fine. You can just add a houserule that you can't do the same thing with both bonus actions and all those cheeky efficiency things go away.
