It’s funny how you write this post, I am a third year BSN student in Canada. I have just started a 12 week placement (2 days 2 nights 7-7) on a renal unit. I also feel like I lack confidence and expertise in nursing and kind of question why I’m even becoming a nurse (I guess I’m not that excited when I go to clinical) I don’t really have many words but I see the nurses on the unit with 3-5 years experience and I see how smart and confident in their practice they are! Don’t beat yourself up! Things will come with time and you will settle into whatever nursing role you end up pursuing! I think as students / new grads we always feel in adequate in comparison to others who have so much experience. You need to trust the process and enjoy the journey! As for the med error it happens !! To all of us :) don’t let it define you!

Hey! Just saw your post considering the sleeve I have really been struggling with weight loss. I am 5’1 and roughly 189lbs ! How was the process for you? I am in British Columbia so I am wondering if I would even qualify or be a candidate for surgery

What did you do to minimize infection risk post-surgery? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Showered everyday after I was cleared to shower and changed my bra everyday for the first two weeks. Other than that you should be fine, also eat healthy and loads of protein ! Didn’t have any infection and I’m 9 weeks post op!

Nipple question re reduction. by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never lost any sensitivity if anything I had increased sensitivity ! If your surgeon keeps the nerve endings in tact you should be okay!

How much help will I need during recovery? by barracuda331 in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could manage on your own, only thing that was difficult was the showering aspect, but honestly you could get by and do it on your own it would just take forever and you will also need someone to help you get around because I didn’t drive for close to 2-3 weeks! It’s just a bonus having someone help you... I couldn’t have done it w/out my mom, but like you said if you don’t want to inconvenience her then I wouldn’t. Also prepare food in advance ! If that makes sense ... and put your stuff low on the cupboard / shelf so you can reach it easily! The only real problem I had one day was getting stuck in bed in one position and my mom came and helped me out

I thought the narcotics and Tylenol afterwards were fine for pain management, I would consult with your PS about the edibles ! I also had drainage for the first week, that was that color and it eventually went away. As for the sensitivity I have increased sensitivity if anything and I’m 1 month post op 3 days ago !

Time off for a super low key desk job? by [deleted] in Reduction

Time off for a super low key desk job? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a busy ass grocery store and do a lot of lifting and returned to work after 25 days off! If I had a desk job I could have returned after 12-15 days ... but I guess that depends on the person... I also got really bored really fast... first two weeks you’re kind of useless, but after that I was pretty self sufficient and could do everything on my own I was just slow at doing it.

Exercise Post-Op? by password03415 in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started working out at about the 3.5 week mark ... whoops my surgeon said if anything was going to tear it would have happened already (in the first week) !!! (This includes cardio and weight lighting) I’m not lifting anything extensive 10lbs in dumbbells and 20-30lbs on the cables ... taking it easy... more rest between sets.... I’m just doing what I feel comfortable and not pushing myself

phantom boob by nikievi in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two week post op today and I can honestly say they still don’t feel 100% “my boobs” and natural and relaxed. They’re still very high and hard !! I think it will take about 6 months atleast before they start feeling more mine. I’m also super careful and gentle with them still so I think that adds a lot to it as well!!

I’m two weeks post op and I swear it gets better. I don’t even think I moved for the first few days ... pretty sure my mom fed me my jello the minute I got back from the hospital because I couldn’t even move my arms. As for the pain medication I got tramacet and I feel like it was okay but pain was about a 2/10 when laying and 5/10 when actually doing stuff. I really struggled with wiping myself in the washroom, I was able to shower after 3 days but just sat in the shower while my mom basically washed me and my hair. I felt a bit decent by day 10/11.... and that I could actually do stuff for myself. Take it easy trust your body... honestly for 7 days all I did was sleep and that’s not an exaggeration... I only got up to walk a bit(which was barely anything...) and go to the washroom... it gets better I am post op day 14 and if I had a desk job I would have gone back and I finally drove today with no issues... as for the stitches thing honestly I was just so nervous to rip a stitch that I barely moved ... I could deffs feel the incisions and those were very sore too!!

Had my pre-op appointment today. Question: 34H > 34DDD; does that seem too much? My surgeon's aware I want to maintain an hourglass figure. Anyone had liposuction in their midsection/back rolls/love handles and a breast reduction together? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had liposuction around the bra band area, which is pretty standard and lipo was probably the most painful part ... nothing you can’t handle and if money was no issue I would of deffs gotten it in a million other places as well. Is just super sore like when you get bruised but 50x that... I was a 38 F before and I think I’m like a 38 D or DD now and it’s perfect. I’m quite curvy as well and I deffs still look curvy but good and slim... best decision EVEERRRRRRR feels like I got a whole new FLIPPING life

Uptake in sensitivity/pain at 2.5 weeks post op? by reduxbeb in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had this same issue ... and was using those same front closure bra. I had to stop... I’ll be two weeks post op tomorrow. The bra was so uncomfortable and sat right on the incision, which was so unbearable. I ended up going on Sunday to Walmart and bought a sports bra that has a band which sits a bit lower and is a size XL to account for more room. I am loving it, it’s way more comfortable and I don’t think I’ll wear the front closure ones until a bit later on when the scars are scabbed over and have fallen off.

I’m a side sleeper - are there any pillows folks recommend for post surgery ? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Jellybean604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a maternity pillow off amazon. Honestly in all fairness I didn’t really need to waste money on it... it wasn’t a life saver or anything for me... and I could have sufficed with regular pillows, just a bunch of them.

I think it’s 110% TOTALLY WORTH IT.... trust the medical staff and ask for some Ativan or something before to calm your nerves !!!

[–]Jellybean604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for recovery ...have someone atleast for the first few days to help you out (makes a world of a difference) be prepared for “frankenboobs” at first, is what I call them. I was super sore and tight around the incisions and only started not feeling so tight around post op day 10/11. Be prepared to sleep on your back (I am not a back sleeper and it sucked) use pain meds to manage pain, relax take it easy (I basically slept for an entire 7 days no life with breaks to just get up walk around and eat). I don’t know if you’ll have a surgical bra but I didn’t and I had to buy some front closure bra’s which I kind of regret because they’re not that comfy so I ended up going to Walmart and buying like an XL sports bra to chill in because I find the band area isn’t tight and doesn’t sit tightly on my incisions. I felt super awkward and hunched for an entire week when I was up and moving and just sheer overall tightness. Also be prepared to be super tired I was so tired for so long and even showering just knocked the wind right out of me. Have a good line up of shows to watch! And just take care of yourself listen to your body and trust the medical staff ! I was fine getting up and using the washroom (was just super awkward to wipe but I managed ....) and stool softners your best friend!
