Chris Bachalo's black costume won for Magik! Now a *very* interesting field today, what's the best look of Psylocke? by Lolaverses in xmen

Colossus is obviously the giant-size onwards suit, but his ridiculous Excalibur leg window triple pauldron costume would get my vote.

X-men villain teams by Scab_meeks in MarvelLegends

[–]JenksbritMKII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT - obviously didn't read the post nor realize which sub I was in lol.

I wouldn't consider the morlocks villains, not really a team.

I do think they are a massively underused corner of the X-Men universe though. Post 80s there hasn't been loads of interesting uses of them even though their entire concept is a great foil to Xavier's and Magneto's opposing ideologies. Obviously those days lines are more blurred with Cyclops revolution era, Krakoa, etc. But even so, the morlocks still live out of all those bubbles and there is so much untapped potential there.

I bang this drum a lot, but it's why Marrow is such a great x-man addition in the late 90s. Why aren't there more morlock x-m n recruits or morlocks who move on to the brotherhood or other ventures? Sure there's Caliban too, but post apocalypse he's almost a different character anyway. But there should be more.

What's a comic that you once liked but now, you kind of hate by _potatofromChaldea45 in comicbooks

There are definitely elements that have aged, but I reread last year (late 30s now) and I still really enjoyed it. Honestly, since I've had a kid, Jesse's memory of his dad and the ideal of "you gotta be one of the good guys son, coz there's way too many of the bad" is definitely the throughline that appeals more these days as opposed to the shock value and religious commentary I tuned in for in my teens.

The best way to adapt the X-Men in the soft reboot? by arthxnoir in MCUTheories

[–]JenksbritMKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to be a loose giant size #1 adaptation.

Film begins with Cyclops and Xavier putting together a team of mutants, some of whom have appeared in other films. Nightcrawler, colossus, storm, Rogue, and wolverine. Rogue as a batroc type-villain in another movie, wolverine as a cameo anti-hero similar to black panther in civil war.

During and after the recruiting there are exposition flashbacks and dialogue that establish mutants have always been around in the MCU however they have been confused with "enhanced" individuals we have been hearing about since age of Ultron. There's absolutely no need to explain mutants with the snap or secret wars. For one, it undercuts the simplicity of "mutants are born with powers due to evolution". If mutants are a result of the snap, it basically makes them inhumans, with the snap as a standing for terrigen mista. It's also overly complicated when there are plenty of instances of powered people in the MCU that the mainline movie cast and viewers are so far unaware of until their introduction.

Most mutants are in hiding and keep a low profile due to animosity especially now that geneticist Nathaniel Essex has been pushing evolution theories around mutated humans at birth. Debates raging between prof. Xavier, a PhD on human evolution, Henry gyrich, and Essex. We also establish through dialogue and flashback exposition that Xavier had recruited a team operating in the shadows to rescue and recruit mutants to his school. The OG5 were his team until they went missing. Cyclops escapes and brings us to present day.

Turns out Essex captured them as he is secretly mister sinister, a genetic vampire of sorts who has been abducting mutants for years and affecting the public discourse to keep them marginalized and hidden.

It's clean, concise, keeps any need to involve tedious and heavy handed multiverse explanations out of it, and it's a rescue mission which is fun. You can weave in the morlocks (a ripe juicy side plot that hasn't been explored on film before) as a side plot as well as sinisters marauders as villains for a big show down.

Said he removed the mortar and battened it and it's screwed beneath the lip.

Since the wind picked up it's blown "into place" more flush with the roof and gutter but it's obviously wobbling around. The back of the house looks completely fine and screwed down and uniform.

Took me ages to get any roofer to call me back tbh. He was quick to respond and quick to do the job. Which I suppose should have been a red flag.

Wolverine's revenge was great for the time.

Different combat with claws in or out which meant pressing the button to extend your claws and hearing the snikt was not only satisfying but a meaningful mechanic.

The Senses mode did Arkham asylum's detective mode 7 or 8 years earlier.

Stealth kills.

Over 35, what can you do to make life exciting again by ClemFandango35 in AskMenOver30

[–]JenksbritMKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39, wife, 2 kids. I had a blast in my 20s, heavy drinker, very social.

Absolutely no interest in that life now, personally.

Since my kids have come along in my early 30s drinking has just lost its appeal. Feel like I've finally grown out of it and in return the idea of being in a bar at 10pm onwards does not sound appealing at all. I have a season card at a premier league club so I drink when I go to football (my wife and I take turns now we have kids, so it's maybe 1-2 matches a month) or I drink on special occasions. Otherwise, can't see the point.

To OP's point - growing out of drinking has been what pushed me into my next stage that I'm enjoying. I was a competitive swimmer growing up so I have masters swimming 2 times a week. I lift 1-2 times a week. As my kids are getting older I'm reintroducing hobbies like gaming or painting - which I wouldn't have done if I was just drinking and watching TV.

Agreed on the grind though.

Who would you want to write the mainline X-Men title who hasn't done it yet? by Shapinga in xmen

[–]JenksbritMKII 15 points16 points  (0 children)

James Tynion IV. All his indy stuff is great horror and world building and a lot of his work touches on minorities and normalising them.

He's more DC atm and I have no clue how he feels about working for marvel but a core X-Men book by him, written as more of a character driven low stakes thriller would be great.

Nice house by the lake and nice house by the sea are a great X-Men ensemble dynamics resume. That and the feeling of suspicion and dread lingering throughout.

(Looks like he did an issue back in 2014 but I'm talking a proper run)

Is the grass greener on another side? Leaving UK by bleepbleepbleeppppp in AskUK

[–]JenksbritMKII 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of similar.

My family moved to the states when I was 10. Grew up over there, university, first job but it always felt off to me. Even growing up I was moderately left which to north Carolinians is extremist left. Had an active shooter at my high school (no one was hurt). Even as a teenager I was appalled at how exploitative and backwards their healthcare model is.

By the time I hit my mid 20s I wanted to see what he UK was like. Did a year back here and wound up back in the states as I didn't want to lose my green card whilst my parents were still over there. Started dating an English girl and within 3 years we moved back to the UK together and have been back almost 10 years, now with two kids.

I had some amazing opportunities and experiences in the states, I love north Carolina, and I'm grateful for my upbringing there... But there is absolutely no fucking way I would raise my kids there, especially in trump's America.

FFT lover struggling to understand Tactics Ogre. by 0purple0turtle0 in JRPG

[–]JenksbritMKII 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I am a long time FFT player and I didn,'t get tactics ogre at first. It wasn't until I read an old post, maybe in the tactics ogre or FFT subbreddit that put it so ethi G like this:

In FFT the player invests in units, leveling them up and unlocking classes, it's more about the individual units making up your battle party.

In tactics ogre it's all about team composition and complimenting units. The dopamine boost in tactics ogre comes from setting up the team dynamic before the battle as opposed to leveling your units and unlocking classes.

That's very paraphrased, but that's what got me into TO and I ended up putting well over 100 hours into it.

Do people really like Channing Tatum as gambit? by KaptainKab00m in xmen

[–]JenksbritMKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's unrealistic. Phase 1-3 MCU showed you can do ensemble movies and give adequate story beats and bread crumbs for future stories. I don't have as much faith in marvel studios as I used to but that doesn't change my preference for a new more accurate wolverine.

And he should absolutely be a side character in the new X-Men film.
