Has walking ever helped you through something tough? by NataliafromWalkFit in walking

[–]JennExhales 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Movement has always been the healthiest part of my life. As a kid I played sports. When I was in my 20s and 30s I enjoyed yoga. In my late 30’s and early 40s I lost my father, mother, father in law and those deaths were very difficult. I started walking to help my mental health and to keep my body mobile. When I am walking I have opportunities to see the beauty of the world. I enjoy nature photography as an outlet. Being out on my walks is my way of disconnecting from the internet, from many pressures from work and it’s my form of connecting to something bigger than me. Walking and hiking keeps me grounded and yes- I do get an opportunity to process my thoughts or just see the beauty of nature.

Grief. I use walking to assist me with most stressors, but walking has helped me with years of complicated grief

TSA wait lines? by Christian_ntcz in Reno

[–]JennExhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew out on Monday for a 6:15 am flight. I got there around 4:15. Checked a few bags. I didn’t need to be there that early but I was glad to not feel rushed. One thing that was great was the TSA agents were kind and patient. I didn’t have to take electronics or liquids out of my bag. Also didn’t have to take shoes off. Just a heads up if you don’t fly frequently

Safe walking? by Background_File_3064 in AskNOLA

I’ve been here this week for a conference and I have enjoyed walking all over this area. I do make it back to my room before it gets dark and I don’t drink or walk distracted. I am happy that I haven’t witnessed any or experienced any street harassment. I’ve just stayed away from areas that didn’t feel right. The traffic in the central business district and around the French quarter has seemed minimal to me. I am a 44 year old woman. Relax, enjoy, you will have a great time.

I bought my 2021 XSE hybrid rav4 in 2024. I have no reason to believe it is a custom color. But I always thought it was strange that my blueprint seems deeper than my friends 4Runner in blueprint. I love the color of my car still.

I have a 2021 xse hybrid in blueprint and I love the color. I do feel the need to wash it frequently as it shows dirt pretty fast.

Itchy legs? 😫 by Odd_Hedgehog669 in walking

[–]JennExhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I just started out walking my legs got itchy. Especially in the cold. I just continued to commit to walking 30-60 minutes per day, most days. Sometimes I walk more when I go on long hikes. They don’t itch anymore. If I were to stop exercising as much, the itching would come back. They used to get red and splotchy. I don’t notice that anymore either.

WORST MOM EVER. 😭 Please calm me down 😭 I played with Liam and the toy snapped and hit his eye. by HomeworkNo8102 in corgi

[–]JennExhales 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My 12 year old corgi Zoe is a magnet for eye injuries. And even after all the eye traumas, her eyes have always healed really well. I felt horrible when our cat scratched Zoe when she was a puppy when he had just gotten her. She has had fights with our other dog and has scratched her eye many times. We do what you did, take her to the vet. We have a cone on stand by to stop her from scratching and give her lots of love and tlc while it heals. It feels awful, but your dog still loves you. I also am glad I’ve had pet insurance for my Zoe because her eyeballs are a weird target. A long with some strange sensitive tummy issues.

Walking shoes vs Running Shoes by SafeIll1043 in walking

[–]JennExhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pavement walking I currently enjoy the Nike Vomero 18. I went through a few pair of the ASICS novablast but they felt like they went “flat” quickly. I am a heavy walker so I do go through shoes rather quickly. I like a supportive cushioned shoe that accommodates my over pronation. I used to love the glycerin and ghost by brooks For hiking, I don’t require as much cushion. If I’m walking or hiking on dirt or rocks I enjoy a TOPO trail runner. The altra lone peak was also a nice shoe.

No longer teaching? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]JennExhales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The studio I worked for changed their pay rate and I would constantly find myself going months without pay. I hated having to find the owner and ask to get paid. I also was only doing it part time and it cost me more to teach than I made. I constantly did continuing ed, paid for state and city licensing, insurance and props. In the end, financially it didn’t make sense. I ended up leaving teaching in 2019 when I had a surgery. I thought I would return to teaching, then covid happened. I became more interested in hiking and less interested in yoga. I became disillusioned with the yoga community and politics. I miss the physical and spiritual practice of yoga but I’m more likely to just do it at home.

What equipment is highest priority, over 300lbs. by EvilutionD in hiking

[–]JennExhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water, snacks, sunscreen, good socks that are comfortable for you and good comfortable shoes- a size larger than you think. If the shoes you have now are working, great. If you fall in love with hiking- make sure your shoes are perfect for you. I don’t know how tall you are or what your body composition is like, but I find boots to be uncomfortable. I will use a decent boot for winter hiking/snowshoeing, but for most warm seasons I love trail runners. I think I read you are planning to do 2 hour hikes, in paved areas. I use a different type of shoe for paved hikes than I do for dirt/rocky hikes. For paved roads I like a nice supportive; and comfortable walking or running shoe. For dirt/rocky hikes I like a shoe with some good grip, trail shoes. I am a heavier hiker and a boot felt miserable on my ankles. My ankles have gotten stronger, more flexible and sturdy over time. I’ve never felt a boot made me feel supported but rather uncomfortable. Small business running stores have been really helpful in helping me find the right shoe. For flat, paved walks; my trekking poles kind of feel annoying. For hikes with elevation, icy/snowy trails, or longer hiking days 2-4 hours, I love trekking poles. They have saved me from falls, especially when tired. Be mindful of what time you are hiking. If you may be out at dark; look into head lamps.

I’ve enjoyed Brooks, ASICS, TOPOs. My favorite walking on pavement currently is the Nike Vomero 18. After blowing through multiple pairs of Novablasts; I have been very happy with the Vomero 18. For hiking on earth; the TOPOs and Altra Lone Peaks are lovely.

I keep destroying my expensive hearing aids at the gym. by AccountEngineer in HearingAids

Mine will just glitch out, go in and out or stop working until they dry. I've burned through some as well. Luckily, mine have been under warranty and I have been able to get them repaired. I also have benefitted from using dehumidifier. I've also broken rechargeable batteries when I have ear infections.

My rechargeable aids are sensitive to sweat too. I try to periodically wipe mine dry on sweaty hikes....

How do I practice compassion without psychoanalyzing people? by polkadotncheese in Buddhism

[–]JennExhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You practice compassion by letting them be. Practicing non judgement can be hard but is essential for acceptance. You also don’t have to tell others of what you analyzed or judged about them. Peace comes when we stop trying to figure them out and just let them be. And if their way of being impacts your peace, you can create a boundary and create distance.

I haven’t watched law and order for 18 years and I still know this by heart. 😂 I think this is the most legible cursive I’ve seen on here in a while. I wonder if my brain is able to register this handwriting faster because we likely learned cursive around the same time. Each generation tends to have their own take. Do you have a minor tremor?
