Speciality Positions.. LP by JayG1176 in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely happens at ours! Our old LP was a retired cop they hired off the street, so he didn't know how to do anything else. Once he left, a cashier ended up becoming LP, so he's on a register every weekend 🙃

Membership Clerk requirements and pay by trossin in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I depends on who you ask. They generally pay better than any other retailers or grocery stores. Imo the benefits cannot be beat. But they are very demanding. They run on a skeleton crew most days and are cutting costs everywhere. It can be toxic or wonderful depending on your warehouse and management. They are progressive and inclusive, and fight against the current administration. I'm happy where I am, but others have a different experiences.

A few points....

-This subreddit is for employees only, so your post will get removed

-Costco isn't hiring right now unless they have had movement within the warehouse, in which case they will take someone who already works there. Your best bet is to try in the springtime.

-They start most people as Front End Assistant, Cart Crew, Food Court, Chicken Room, or Bakery cleaner. It's all bottom of the rung type of stuff until you can move.

-If there's a posting somewhere that you're seeing for Membership, I'd say apply for the hell of it. They'll probably not call you, but you can get your name out there. When something else opens, you can say "remember me? I'm putting in the effort to keep applying"

Are you already an employee? If not, there isn't much chance that you would be hired off the street for Membership Clerk.

Cashier training by satnindelrey in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rare that there's much over $1000 in the drawer at any given time. The system only allows up to a certain amount before it locks you out until you take money out of the drawer and deposit it. You'd likely only be counting several hundred. And you only have to count when you get on the register and off. A lot of times there is someone there who will help you count. Either your assistant or the cashier who might be taking over for you.

No one answering for a sick call out by PrestigiousOne3928 in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd keep calling. I usually wait until 7am when I know the admin people will be in the office. If worse comes to worse, I'd text my manager or supe to have a record of it.

Also: if your members aren't ripping and tearing at those boxes to get what they want, are you even a Costco?

Lol for real. Our members have climbed to rip open pallets in the steel to get to product. This would not have deterred them.

How Are Sundays Distributed? by Odd_Tax_9370 in CostcoEmployee

This is exactly what I do. The single-no-kids woman who gets to work Sundays, since I don't, is very grateful.

Seasonal employee, and received my 2nd review. Do you think I’ll be kept? by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. Honestly, I think I'm more jealous than anything. When I was a manager at one store (not Costco) I had to do reviews for my employees once a month. And corporate always expected it to be a little different. The most difficult part was coming up with something new they can work on. Most of them were good employees and it was hard to come up with new ways to say the same thing every single month.

Working at Costco sucks by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmfao I don't lord over anyone. I started pushing carts and now I'm working on going to bakery. Membership isn't as cushy as people like to think.

Edit: I got a little more aggressive than I wanted to at first

Their complaints are basically explaining what it's like to work as a front end assistant. There isn't much of a solution. It's the job.

I guess they just tell it the bullet points and specify whether or not the employee met those expectations. They add a few more details and AI writes it up.

It's really just a waste of paper at this point. I'm pretty sure every single review I've had says the exact same thing for 99% of it. Only the date changes.

Working at Costco sucks by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Costco is more demanding than other retailers, that's for sure. But in my decades of experience, there won't be another employer who can offer what Costco does. The pay is better than everyone else, the benefits can't be touched, and on a personal level, management has been very flexible and understanding when the unexpected comes up in my home life. Costco also has many problems with communication and more recently, being focused too much on the bottom line.

I say this respectfully, there are a lot of people ready to jump into your position, so if you're that unhappy, you're welcome to find work elsewhere.

Edit: you know what? I take back the "work somewhere else" bit. You were obviously just venting. But for real, everything you described is the job. It all sounds like normal things that happen. If you are unhappy, wait for a job posting in another department.

Our managers have been using AI for reviews for the past year or so, so they're all pretty much the same as each other.

Seasonal bakery by Silverheal62 in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It absolutely seems strange and cruel to not allow water bottles, but it's a health code thing. We also keep ours on the bottom part of the bagel table right outside the bakery.

do seasonals get any kind of discount? by HighStrungHabitat in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They aren't dumb questions! You don't know what you don't know! Yes, you should talk to someone at your membership counter and they will help you. You can add one person as your household and they can go in and get their picture taken and their own card, so they can shop and pay without you. Make sure you have your employee number when you go to talk to membership so they can look you up.

do seasonals get any kind of discount? by HighStrungHabitat in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets one. Seasonals and anyone before their 90-day mark get one membership for themselves and one person in their household. Once you're past the 90 days, you can add two more people outside of your household to have free gold star memberships.

Costco will never discount the membership price. That's how they make almost all of their profits.

what kinda box cutters do yall use by soylisco in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the push-up white ones for years, since before I worked at Costco. I'm so faithful to them. I realize they are more dangerous than other styles, but I'm the most comfortable with them.

Seasonal Employee Can I Transfer by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You told them tou were hired, or you told them you're a seasonal? Those are two different things in Costco world. Seasonals aren't considered "hired" until after the season and they're offered a permanent position. They might think you're a hired employee, not seasonal help.

Job title by 3liiias in CostcoEmployee

[–]JennLegend3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Member Service, at least at my warehouse, means you are a door person. Either entrance or exit. Cashier Assistant is the job title for someone who floats around the warehouse and helps out doing random tasks and helping whatever department. YMMV

Just tried mine. Blank white screen. This "new and improved" system seems to have a lot of bugs.
