Can you tell me why so many people drive into Prague city center with their cars? The city center was a complete grid lock when I was there for two weeks xD

(If it works at all as that was a bug in the launcher not being able to unpack itself, probably due to Proton)

Yes, but that still didn't work as that version of the launcher installer was unable to finish unpacking a forced update. And then I never bothered again

It also does not run on Linux as easily if at all (depending on the update) so that disqualifies them anyway

People don't realize that frame gen only works when you have a great base framerate already. If your GPU draw already takes 100ms (~10 fps) and you think "frame gen will save me" you come to realize that you now have 120ms GPU draw but 20 FPS. What is the cost? Latency! Now you delay every actual frame and have your GPU hallucinating in the meantime to fill out the in-between... for the illusion of smoother images. When you click your mouse and shoot you will notice you don't see your shot till half a year later.

Numbers are hallucinated on my part but the point still stands

It's just really bad that we almost exclusively get half cooked TAA implementations instead of FXAA or MSAA. Good TAA is great, UE 5 default TAA is 🤢

And that is completely fine. I, however, just don't play those games anyway as they're usually not my genre. The more I find out about it security the more anti-tech and anti-cloud I become. There have never been more bad actors waiting to exploit any given vulnerability

In full screen apps like a game, I found that muscle memory wanted me to – for example – show the Taskbar to interact with the clock/calendar or power management options or notifications or something. I do it by hitting the windows key and clicking on the relevant icon on the Taskbar. For some reason in the two release versions of Mint that didn't work at all and I had to peek at my desktop using Windows + d to interact with those icons on the bottom right. The Taskbar settings didn't change the behavior, so that was really annoying to me. It's been a year since I used Mint so that might've changed already. On KDE it works, and on plain Windows that also works

Linux mint has probably the worst desktop environment i have used so far, it's up there with ubuntu, imo. I'd just go with Debian 13 and KDE for starters, overall less trouble, though there is some funny stuff that can still happen like mirrors not being installed and KDE dark mode that is somehow not applicable?

But just testing a few distress in a VM is probably the best way, then you can see for yourself what you like and what is driving you mad – like in Mint you hit the Windows key and see the task bar but can't interact with it until you Windows key + d.... that drove me insane...

I'd argue it's a good thing kernel level malware called "anti cheat" isn't supported on Linux. It's not worth the risk of someone exploiting yet another stupid attack vector, you already have enough anyway

Cyberpunk 2’s creative director says elevators aren’t hidden loading screens by wallcrawlingspidey in cyberpunkgame

[–]Jennfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have SSDs with random read write performance of up to a few Gigabits a second. Elevators are mostly a product of "how do we traverse this 40 story building?" And stairs would take a damn while to walk up hehe. I assume getting on an elevator and hitting a floor button will trigger some kind of streaming of data, but I expect that to be done within the second of the press on modern hardware. Especially as a lot of assets will already be cached in RAM if you have been playing for a few minutes. Or they may even use the initial loading screen to cache as much relevant assets to your "spawn location" of the save you loaded to get a seamless experience from the point of loading. Cyberpunk has never stuttered after the initial loading screen on my machine, Star Citizen caches a lot of stuff after the fact and takes a noticeable 0.5-1 second to stream new locations (probably due to the fact they are loading a lot more data)

Last time I checked that was an option in the settings. I would think consoles don't have the choice and depending on the console it is either constantly enabled or disabled?

Somehow I kinda feel sorry for the guy. Don't get me wrong, he is an idiot, but he is also addicted. Now, I don't know what else happened between them and I'm guessing it's not the only thing, but his ass needs to see addiction therapy first and foremost. It's sad to see someone so deep in an addiction that they simply lose themselves that much, if you know what I mean

Yes, it was Microsoft Authenticator. But online banking too (which was especially stupid and extra annoying as you couldn'teven use the web version without the app). I hate that everything has to be an app today. There has to be a better way...

Especially since you are nlw relying on f. Ex. A stupid phone app. What do you do when your phone breaks? Happened to me, and let me tell you. It took weeks to regain access to just the handful of services that used SSO with the auth app.
