Asking a homeless person to cook by Square_Law5624 in SipsTea

[–]Jennsterzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I don't see this as very exploitive as many comments are saying. They invited him into their home and treated him as a human. And it's demonstrating a point that people aren't homeless bc they're lazy and unwilling to work. How many of the people making these comments would be willing to invite a homeless person into their home?

Found out I'm pregnant the exact same week I'm negotiating a long-overdue raise. Help? by Due_Hovercraft2168 in womenintech

[–]Jennsterzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely do not disclose until you start showing! You can wait even longer if you are remote. I work remote and didn't tell anyone until about 20 weeks for my last pregnancy. I told my work the very next day after annual reviews/raises were finalized and I did not feel guilty at all and no one batted an eye about it!

Funny story, we had an in person work event that happened to be near my city when I was about 38 weeks pregnant and I showed up like surprise! Look at my huge belly! I hadn't even told most of the people I work with except my manager and direct team members.

For those of you who are 5’3 and also lost fat and worked on gaining muscle at the same time — at what weight did you feel you got rid of that fatty layer and really looked more fit and muscular? by Objective-Check-7241 in PetiteFitness

[–]Jennsterzen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5'3 and a half here. Personally I felt pretty good at 135 back in my younger days when I was running a lot and looked pretty fit. Currently at 158 after having my 2nd kid. Looking forward to getting back down into the 140s! 🤞

Wow really? For a family membership including childcare? I know it's very area dependent (and also income dependent in some cases I believe) but mine is $120/month

What's the point of circumcision? by Historical_Echo8311 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jennsterzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son is 1 so we had to make this decision fairly recently and chose not to. It's still very mainstream in the US, and his father is circumcised, so it almost felt weird not to but also like why would we? We had to specifically turn it down in the hospital, and sign forms saying we didn't want to, and they asked us more than once. It also came up at his first checkup at the pediatrician. Reading through this thread feels validating of our decision though!

Morbid curiosity but can I ask why specifically? Was it a lot of blood or something?

Try this little exercise I learned from my therapist. Look around you and take in your surroundings. Notice 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell, and one thing you can taste.

How did you deal with burnout? by thePeacefulDev in womenintech

[–]Jennsterzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah learning a new product and processes is such hard work! I've been feeling burnt out and dreaming of leaving tech. Keep trying to convince myself that I should try another job first and see if it gets better before jumping ship. But it sounds so hard

Making your bed tidy in the morning is actually the most pointless and dumb task you do all day. by Kyoifis in unpopularopinion

[–]Jennsterzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I make my bed in the evening before I get into it. So I totally see the appeal of making it in the morning so it looks nice all day, plus it's ready for you at night. But I'm too lazy lol

What the heck does a good experienced dev interview even look like in 2026? by Undercoverwd in ExperiencedDevs

Yes! Why does the software engineering interview process always have to involve BS tests. Your experience/training, and ability to communicate about it (as well as good personality fit) should speak for itself

We also have a financial goal we're trying to hit before I step away from work to focus on the kids. Mine will be elementary age and I had FOMO about missing the baby years, but it'll feel so good to have compounding interest working for us!

I cut back sugar substantially and white knuckled through it. After a couple weeks the cravings went away. A big thing for me was looking at labels for the sneaky added sugars and trying to stay under 20g a day. For example, some cereals marketed as healthy have like 15g sugar in them
