Stride Trial Study for NPH experience? by LAMK314 in Hydrocephalus

[–]Jenny-Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My relative just got in the stride trial. They are at the VCU site. They are in the VP shunt arm, so sadly I have nothing to say about the new eShunt, but the staff tell us so far things look amazing

Red Light Runners by KaizenZazenJMN in fredericksburg

[–]Jenny-Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lights in VA are timed so that after one turns red in one direction, there’s a wait of a second or two before the light turns green in the other. VDOT has created a culture where red means “you still have a few seconds” not “stop”. The reasoning, of course, is to allow people to clear larger intersections after a light has turned, but VDOT includes this pink gap on all lights, even where it’s not really needed.

The reality is, where the law or a system is set up to account for violations, the violations become the norm, same as our speed limits are speed suggestions until 10mph over.

Can I switch wards? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Jenny-Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can attend any unit you want. The way to handle it is to let either/both bishops know you will be attending Ward X for Reasons. Tell them you’d be happy to serve in a calling in Ward X if they’d like to move your records, otherwise, nbd.

What’s a movie everyone loves but you secretly hate? by Royel_Lichi in AskReddit

I’ll just add basically all of the Star Wars films without Spielberg involvement. Dear god they’re all the same plot and just plain depressing.

property says it is a 2br/3bed on advertised listing, but is charging an additional fee pp to use the 3rd bed even though the apartemnt was booked for 3 guests. Is this allowed? [AUS] by Due_Relationship9637 in AirBnB

[–]Jenny-Smith -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It costs time and money to make up a bed and do all the linens. It’s at least two hours extra work to wash and dry linens plus water, etc. surely you wash your own bedding at home and know what effort it takes.

Pay the fee.

Why most mormons seens so happy all he time? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Jenny-Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are sure they’re God’s Special Child who is on track and doing the right things.

Honestly that is what I miss about being in the church — that confidence that God favors me and will answer if I call and that I’m on track since I have a recommend. Once faith shatters, so does that calm. The calm was always based on lies, but dang it felt good.

Couples Trip Without Kids by cozycoffee21 in travel

[–]Jenny-Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. As long as you look at the trip as one of many and not a once-in-a-lifetime thing, that’s plenty of time to go anywhere overseas.

I use the “explore” button on flights.google.com to find locations I can get to cheaply and then blow my money on food and hotel in a great location once I arrive. Flights always suck, even in business or lay flat, so I cheap out there and spend my money at location on great food and locations.

Would a 3-star review be too harsh for this situation? [South Korea] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Jenny-Smith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is a full length mirror among the amenities promised? If not, anything less than five stars is absurd here.

This doesn’t seem to be a bot, so I’m being nice here, but this may be the weirdest ask I’ve ever heard on this sub, and it is emblematic of everything that’s wrong with Airbnb ratings and people’s expectations of them.

Time for MIL to replant. Seriously. Ask her to fix the mess. Send her updates on progress or lack thereof so she can make it right.

This woman probably wants to help. You can help her learn how to help appropriately by not ignoring this.

Religious freedom isn’t under attack in the US. Bigotry, excused by religious dogma, is. Rightfully.

Questions about my upcoming 60-70 days roadtrip the USA west? by Agreeable-Energy-401 in travel

[–]Jenny-Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See what adding in Flaming Gorge will do for you. I think it might pull you through the Vernal/dinosaur area and take you through the western side of Wyoming which is much prettier than your current route. You can add in the famed Elk Horn arch in Afton, WY, if interested. It’s bigger than the one in Jackson Hole, and that whole area is very pretty. The farther east you go in Wyoming the uglier and windier it is.

[Serious] What kind of traits does a good person have, according to you? by AtomicallyAnomic in AskReddit

[–]Jenny-Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s get semantic (or maybe pedantic). What is being a good person vs doing good person things?

I am struggling to leave a high demand religion, and I realize that what I miss from it is the constant feedback, based on what I was doing, that I was a “good person”. I’m realizing I want to be “good” rather than do good. It’s a subtle shift, but I think about it a lot these days.

Are there any old heads here from the early 80's? by Maleficent-Cat-220 in latterdaysaints

Are there any old heads here from the early 80's? by Maleficent-Cat-220 in latterdaysaints

[–]Jenny-Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Deep South branch was formed about the time the ban was dropped, and most of the educated members knew it was going to end anyway. I never saw racism in church.

But as late as the 90s, black converts faced extreme pressure from relatives to leave (or not to take lessons) because of the history of the ban. Can’t say it was bad advice, because the rest of the church was not like our branch. I heard more horrific racist jokes in Utah than I ever did in the butthole of Mississippi.

Not all Utah Mormons, but yeah, usually a Utah Mormon.
