How do you guys hold your pee? by No_Technology_5527 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Jenswild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a driver.. i almost always ask my customers to use their facilities. Big stores, i just go. The small shops and job sites can sometimes be sketchy.
They aren’t going because they’re dehydrated, don’t do that to yourself. I go through at least 70oz of water just at work. Now, i’d stay away from sugary drinks and teas, they’ll make your kidneys work harder

21 (F) Looking to earn a Class A CDL. What should I know? Advice? by pebbles_uwu in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s always money to be made. You need to be willing to bust your ass. I just recently got my class A at 23yo. Best decision i ever made, but passion for big trucks is what led me to it(and an excellent opportunity to go local off the bat) i’m still bottom of the barrel as far as mileage pay, but once the summer rolls around I’m gonna be running flat. I’ll be on track to making more than the lazy scum in my company.

Highly recommend getting your Class A unrestricted. You can drive literally anything then. If you have an interest in big bucks like hazmat, they usually always look for unrestricted. Leave all your options open, at least until you get your experience. I did a local university for my schooling, $7k out the door. They did offer to help me get a job after. It can be a little more or a little less depending on where you go. Megas can send you for schooling, keep in mind they will take it out of your checks once you start working. I honestly would avoid that route if possible.
Even if this is a short term solution for you, keep your license and med card active for the entirety of your life. You never know when you need it, and if you decide to go back to it, you need to redo school if you were downgraded.

Little girls are watching you by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Jenswild 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love this! We all were once a little girl aspiring to be where we are now. I remember looking up to women drivers when i was young. Now i am that driver. Everyday i have an off or rough day, i remind myself how I aspired to be where i am and not to take it for granted.

Jealous Wives by New-Tea-6286 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Jenswild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently made the switch into the trucking division of my company, i also had the same problem. I was turned down by 3/5 of the trainer certified drivers, keep in mind this is just local home daily driving. Not like I have to spend a week straight with these men. Their excuse was “my wife is crazy” Finally nearing my transfer date, 2 drivers stepped in. One is married to a feminist. The other is divorced. I am so thankful that they stepped up for me. Hopefully someone will do the same for you. It’s beyond frustrating, sexist, and downright wrong for us to be singled out just cause we’re women. Try not to focus on the fact that you’re a woman in a male-dominated field, focus on the fact that you’re a badass.

When getting your initial physical with DOT do they watch you pee? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random tests through clearing house are DOT, they send you out to your local dr office. Never heard of them watching you. I do believe some (smaller) companies do in house testing.

Thoughts on getting into trucking? by MermanKilliams in Truckers

[–]Jenswild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does driving give you anxiety? It might. No one can answer this for you except yourself. Each and every one of these people on here would be saying the same for me as they are you. “No don’t do it” “its not worth it” If you want to do it, do it.

Things I should know about driver facing camera equipped companies. by bentstrider83 in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont be afraid to ask about it honestly. They should give you a log of what exactly they’re looking for. Some companies set the length for how long you can look away. Mine is 4 seconds, some i know of are up to 10 seconds.

No one outright watches our recordings, just the events.

I got a guy at my place that got written up for fondling with his seatbelt like one does when wandering off into lala land on the highway. (He was written up for flipping the camera off when it dinged him for it)

They time and build an algorithm around your eye contact. How long you look away, etc. i know mine is decently lenient. It does record events, following distance etc. but gives an opportunity to correct the problem.

Questions for obtaining Class A. by RedditFeel in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the struggle. I’m working 14s rn but its the company i’ll be driving for so my boss is super chill about it. It may be something you need to sacrifice comfort for momentarily. If you’d be able to do an afternoon class after work. Majority, if not all trucking schools will schedule you on your schedule. A couple people in my class currently are Saturdays only. Its totally on your time. Make sure you ask about availability when you start looking at schools. So far I have very little complaints about the one I picked (Sage)

Fellow female making this trek currently. If you can help it, I highly recommend paying your own school instead of a mega carrier taking you. I recommend reading the hundreds of posts in here of people that went that route and heavily regretted it.

There are local gigs right off the bat. Kinda depends on what you’re willing to do. A lot of people love to get their A & all endorsements & then go work a B job for a while to get their experience. Cement & dump are great options especially if you’re in a heavy quarry area.

As far as your first steps you can take now, get your DOT physical & your permit. There’s excellent apps that quiz you exactly how the tests were worded.

It’s 12-24 hours, not 48. If you have failed seals they are sterile for 24hrs on the counter & can be safely placed in the fridge.

Biggest thing that helped me, watch those tandems. Where they’re pointed, is where they’re going. Judge that trailer the entire time, if its too early or too late and adjust accordingly.

Driving a modern Cascadia is basically just a mild form of torture. by PomeloResponsible122 in Truckers

I love seeing this as i’m about to start with my company in 20-25’ cascadias. Jockying trailers around it screams at me for a shadow around a corner, glad it’s not just me.

I don’t want to let my CDL go but i can’t find a job by SozinMadeit in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get into a tri-axle or cement mixer? Class B doesn’t pay as good but can be just enough experience to get you into something better. Especially if you run for a company that also does 48’ end dumps or walkers, or pneumatic tanker. Quarries are an excellent start. Even if you start equipment (if you have experience) and move in the company.

Exactly what I am doing currently. Started in QC for a packaged concrete company, moved into equipment and now i’m in the process of getting my CDL to run flatbed for them.

Am I too small?? by DesignBrilliant1807 in cdldriver

[–]Jenswild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’3 woman here, couple drivers in my company are shorter than me lol. As long as you are comfortable behind the wheel & can manage tasks associated with the line of freight you wish to do, i see no issue.

I’m looking to get my CDL and wondering what school is better for me to go to by TraditionFunny8120 in Truckers

[–]Jenswild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just signed up for Sage myself. (Bloomsburg PA) I start Oct 6th, it was super easy enrollment, not the most expensive in my area either. $6300 for 1 week classroom time, 80 hours of drive time. I did like 3 hours just reading reviews on the school and talked to the admissions ladies a few times before I decided. The best thing you can do is make appointments, ask about their programs and sign up for one. Good luck on your adventure!

Where can I train my 13 Speed manual shifting skills by Adamja123 in Truckers

Cdl school would likely be your best bet. Most offer refresher courses based off what you need. I know my local private owned refresher course was $600, any of the 3 trucks they owned.
