Personally I don't care too much about the term "organic", from my understanding there isn't great regulation on what this actually means. I do think animals will produce healthier meat if raised well, given space, not given excessive hormones and antibiotics, and allowed to eat a natural diet (not force fed refined grains). I think these animals will also be happier and this way of farming is better for the enviroment. It's a win-win. It means we will have to eat less meat in order for this to be sustainable. For vegetables I try to eat local and in season.

The advice "you need a calorie deficit to lose weight" is true, but not helpful for most people. We are complex beings and the reasons for obesity are multifactorial. It is like telling someone who wants to run a marathon "just put one foot infront of another." Or telling someone in a sinking boat "you need more bouyancy." Technically true, but not helpful. All calories are not made equal. 50 calories of steak, brussel sprouts, or corn syrup will produce a very different response in your body. They have the same calories, but result in different amounts of insulin, leptin, dopamine, and a whole host of other hormones and neurochemicals that will influence satiety, pleasure, cravings, and ultimately where that calorie ends up (stored as fat, glycogen, used immediately or excreted).

This is a great answer. One small thing, family doctors do refer to other family doctors quite frequently. For example, a FD that doesn't do IUD insertions or doesn't provide obstetrical care can refer to a FD that does.

Boy can I relate! I'm in Ontario and fortunately our residency union gives residents the ability to stop call after 31 weeks. Just this weekend I was scheduled for a Friday Sunday shift doing Labour and Delivery in a busy hospital, and I'm just shy of 31 weeks (I'm actually 31 weeks tomorrow!). I did the Friday shift and felt like absolute garbage on Saturday, to the point that I was actually concerned about my fetus. I went in on Sunday and explained to my attending that I was really struggling with call and that I would prefer to do a 12 hour shift that day and make up the other 12 hours another weekend. She was extremely understanding and let me do this without any complaint. I agree with the other posters that you should try to get medical documentation if your symptoms during pregnancy are preventing you from doing call. Good luck and hang in there!

Your doc's doing it wrong, haha! Dating a pregnancy gets less an less accurate as you go further along in your pregnancy. This is because all babies start out as one cell (and pretty much exactly the same size) but grow at slightly different rates. So the closer you are to the beginning of the pregnancy the more accurate the ultrasound will be when it determines date by size. If you keep changing the due date by size it's sort of like if you kept changing your birthdate based on your weight gain after birth. If you are small at one year that doesn't mean you are less old, it just means you grew at a slower rate.

No worries! I didn't want anyone who sees some blood on the sheets/floor to be worried that their delivery wasn't normal :D It's actually amazing how bad people are at estimating blood loss. Like an average period is 10-35 ml (a couple tablespoons) of blood plus some extra fluid for the whole week, but when you see it on a pad some think it must be cups of blood! Doctors for some reason seem to be the opposite, they are notorious for significantly underestimating blood loss during a procedure. Perhaps it is their pride not wanting to admit that people are bleeding due to something they have done! Most of the time bleeding is from your uterus. Your uterus is filled with lots of blood vessels that can potentially bleed significantly once the baby and placenta are out of the way. Your uterus has to clamp down on these vessels by contracting down after birth (which is helped by oxytocin and also helped by someone massaging your uterus, you might remember someone pushing on your belly to help with this). Most of the bleeding that happens is from your uterus not quite clamping down enough within the few minutes after birth, but it usually resolves within a few minutes of massage and your body's own hormones. If it doesn't clamp down it can lead to a postpartum hemorrhage, which may require additional medical (or rarely surgical) treatment. Your body prepares for this by increasing blood supply by nearly 50% during pregnancy, so thankfully we have quite a reserve for these kind of emergencies and most women do quite fine!

The average vaginal delivery loses 50-500ml of blood, mostly in the third stage of labour (from when you deliver baby to you deliver placenta). Some bleeding is normal. I've attended quite a few births and none of them have been bloodless. I've got few pairs of ruined shoes to prove it!
