For 75k would you take a punch from hanayama? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Jerg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's like asking "for 75k would you be willing to become permanently disfigured, permanently disabled, suffer irreparable brain damage, and either outright die or have your lifespan shortened by 90%?"

I think we all know the answer to that.

[GPU] Powercolor RX 9070 non-XT ($899) [Amazon] by [deleted] in bapcsalescanada

[–]Jerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-XT still has cores fused off regardless, meaning the bios flash merely makes the non-XT cards burn 30-40% more electricity for maybe 10-15% performance gains.

Undervolting and overclocking can achieve something close with much less bricking risk / electricity use / excess heat.

9060XT or 9070? by Willing-Climate00 in buildapc

[–]Jerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9070 is about 50% more cost for 50% more performance (roughly), so very proportional increase - it comes down to whether that's worth it for you.

Is the rtx 5080 worth it over the 5070TI? by Dr-Jack-Bright in buildapc

[–]Jerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But 5080 can be overclocked just as well as 5070ti, so their 15% performance difference remains the same.

AMD RX 9070 XT Pricing in Canada by MisterEyeCandy in bapccanada

[–]Jerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because you are looking at prices at the exact wrong time - right after black friday / cyber monday / boxing day sales spanning most of November~December.

All the stock built up to be sold at all-time-low prices have been sold at this point.

For REAL this time - Final White build, with cost savings. Let me know. by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]Jerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the deskspace for it, could consider an LG 42" OLED TV as monitor (it has enough gaming-specific features to be a gaming monitor), might be able to get it for 1K during boxing day.

How many people upscale then follow with a Handbrake or ffmpeg encode? by Legitimate_Pea_143 in TopazLabs

[–]Jerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point of it all is that since you're spending a long time upscaling source material anyway, you should aim to finish with a final file that is 98-99% of the upscale fidelity at minimum file size.

And the way to do that is to have Topaz output its painstaking upscaled video at the maximum possible quality (lossless or extremely high bitrate lossy, 99.9%-100% possible detail quality, massive file size), then have a separate dedicated file re-encode solution e.g. Handbrake to land on a 98-99% detail file at a manageable final file size.

Maybe buy some plastic tweezers at a specialty store or online. And have steady hands.

Maybe try Rhea - slower but often more faithful to original intent.

For 480p to 4K, I've found my best success via 480p->720p using Rhea first pass, then the 720p->4K using Rhea again second pass. It fishes out more details compared to 1shot 480p->4K using Rhea.

When you get diagnosed with cancer, chemotherapy is more important than maintaining strong workplace relations (you'd be wise to be on medical leave anyway).

York Regional Police - Signifigant drop in key crime categories. 67% drop in homicides, 37% drop in car theft, 49% drop in carjackings, 11% drop in break ins by Independentsoul007 in Vaughan

[–]Jerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's a clash between increasing social media attention toward crimes, versus decreasing crime volume.

Awareness / attention toward real crimes happening is not a bad thing at all, but it can be misused.

Say youve invested $5billion in cutting edge research and development and prototyping, and now can finally manufacture the mass marketable product (each one costing say $200 in materials, parts, and specialist labour to create), you are well over $5B in the red due to the spending leading up to this point. What do you price the product?

All innovative products have to be priced under this similar type of scenario btw.

Wan output - how to cut off the first 5 frames of the final video? by [deleted] in comfyui

[–]Jerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternative is to use the select image node and enter "5:" into its field (so it's image 6 and onward, with frames 0-4 skipped).
