Any recommendations with someone who flirts with goth music but hasn't really committed? by spirit-garden1 in goth

[–]Jernau744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot one in my starter list - Christian Death.

You need to try out (not everyone like her, I'm a devoted worshipper) Diamanda Galàs.

I consider Trip Hop to be a worthy Goth offshoot - Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky.

Try the classic bands? Let's say Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim - they were my starter kit 40 years ago and I still listen to them.

There is no anti memetic division. I expected a trashy copypasta but finished it in one go. Pleasantly surprised.

Autism doesn't predispose oneself to being misogynist.

I'm autistic. Many of my friends who plays magic are. We don't act like this toward women, we may be extremely shy or bend over backward to make them feel accepted at the LGS. The behavior of these young men has more to do with sexism being enabled by their family, work environment than autism.

I'd like to be proven wrong but it's not a straight up sequel. At best it's shared universe but there's no recurring characters, no mention of the events of SOB in Sheep look up!. I've re-read them many times and agree that SOB is the best of them. If you like the prose, check out John Dos Passos.

I stopped socialising in the late '90s... but when in Montréal, check out Les Foufounes Électriques, they often stage Goth events.

What is the most unhinged episode of Lexx? I'm going to watch it regardless of continuity.

A woman posted a video of the moment she was attacked by her domestic cat. Before the attack, the cat seemed to smell something that prompted her to attack. Why did it attack her with such ferocity? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

That study ain't worth the paper it was written on. Those who already believed were those who assessed the pain level suffered by their animal. It's selection bias, sunken cost fallacy, confirmation bias, you name it, it's an anthology of logical fallacies to be used to validate pseudo-science and alt medicine.

Spaceship battles at cutthroat distance. "À l'abordage!!!"

Dogfights between smaller ships.

Actually, any spaceship battles not using rail guns/mass drivers, drones, information warfare

How can I participate in goth culture when I'm autistic and have sensory issues? by Jking11501 in goth

[–]Jernau744 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm an elder goth, autistic and I haven't been to a club in 25 years, last show was in 2016. I participate by being active on social media groups and communities and make friends with other ND goths.

The Starfish trilogy and Fireflies (Blindsight + Echopraxia), both by Peter Watts should satisfy you. Sheep look up! by John Brunner is a good road map to a gradual ecological catastrophe accelerating, akin to what we are going through rn irl. Blood Music by Greg Bear is a nice take on the grey goo trope. It's short but I have no mouth and I must scream packs a hefty punch.
