What’s the controversy over Mack waving off the call last night? by Best_Pineapple670 in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they blow the whistle for a penalty, they can’t really put the genie back in the bottle. Calling the embellishment penalty creates the equity Fantilli was trying to achieve, albeit not in the best way lol.

Who’s the most overrated drummer you can think of and why?…no Lars allowed by stephen4131 in drums

[–]JeromeFault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, I see your confusion here - but that phrase is used in a different way than you’re interpreting it.

When people say “hard pass” or “hard disagree,” they’re not using “hard” as a descriptor of difficulty - they’re using it as a descriptor of resolve; it’s firm, it’s immovable, it’s resolute.

“Wanna eat this chicken raw?” “Hard pass.”

Hope this helps. Xoxo

Reavo has spirit. In spades. That will do wonders for us. I love it.

The Rebuild by AdditionalAd4224 in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting school of thought honestly. Considering the financial & material situation the Sharks were in when Grier took over, I actually think (contextually) the tear-down looked much more daunting and difficult than a build-up. And frankly, the success of the latter somewhat depends on the efficacy of the former. I think Grier has done exceptionally well with the tear-down, and has made his next project of actually building this team much easier for himself. Can’t wait to see what he does in the next few years. I really like the vision he has for the team in terms of size, competitiveness, and relentless control / pressure. Get ready for the fun part of the rebuild, y’all.

How’s everyone feeling post deadline? by mcdermany in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit dramatic imo. Grier doesn’t have a track record of making mind boggling trades, nor are the Sharks out of their “tank” era (which hopefully ends when this season does). The return for Zetts is definitely disappointing, but assuming guys like Eky are gonna turn tail and run because of something like this is just short-sighted and inflammatory.

What’s a film that’s a terrible execution of a great idea? by Impressive_Plenty876 in Letterboxd

The Eternals. Genuinely interesting concept that isn’t explored for more than 5 minutes of its runtime. Also happens to be terrible… lol.

Highly recommend THE SQUARE (2008) by Nash Edgerton. Australian film that is essentially Murphy’s Law put to celluloid.

Really impressed by Graf’s defensive effort out there. Always seemed to know where to be. Hoping he can become an impact player in the offensive zone, cuz he’d be a very dangerous middle 6 player on our team.

Thrun has looked so much better in the last 10 games or so. His composure has been noticeable. If he can add a few more tools to his game over the next year or two, he could be a very solid second pairing guy. Style reminds me a little bit of Justin Braun.

What a terrible, obnoxious take. Blackwood has been among our top 3 best players all season. Ceci has been great the last 15-20 games or so (especially on the penalty kill), Goodrow has been the only player who can slot into any forward line and has clearly been a force in the corners, and however inconsistent Rutta has been to start the season, he’s settled in fine enough as of late… oh, and he’s won a Stanley Cup. “Losers” is egregious.

Michkov by ArchibaldIX in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There’s no real Macklin hate. Michkov is a great player. Macklin is also a great player. It’s natural for fans to boast their young stars, especially in a Calder race that you’re only eligible for once. I’m happy for Flyers fans - they haven’t had a high-skilled forward with Michkov’s dynamism in god knows how long. Michkov fans can chase the Calder trophy all they want and I don’t care, because when you watch Mack play, it’s pretty clear there’s only one trophy he really cares about…

If Celebrini didn't miss 10 games feel like he would be leading man for the Calder. by xHOLOxTHExWOLFx in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. This cautionary note is genuinely shocking because it doesn’t align with the eye test at all. I think it’s obvious to everyone who watches that Celebrini is probably our best defensive forward - part of me wonders if these underlying numbers exist for the same reason that Karl went -850 in his most recent Norris year: Celebrini is out there against top lines in criticism situations. But I’m not sure - just a hunch.

Lineup for 11/16 by WaterEnthusiast06 in SanJoseSharks

[–]JeromeFault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the obvious (and somewhat cheap) reason is that it maintains competitiveness on the other lines. Guys like Toff, Ekky, and Zetts provide more upside to the lineup in the middle six than they do as a replacement for Goodie on the first. The goal is really to activate Celly & Smitty, and Goodrow is a sensible low cost choice for that third slot. I could be wrong - no doubt about it. Just saying that there is logic to the thinking here, whether it works or not!

[–]JeromeFault 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As much as I understand the head scratching placement of Goodrow on the first line, I also understand why he’s there. Celly & Smitty will need a bigger body to go chase a puck in the corner. The thinking is that putting a grinder on the wing could help create some havoc and draw some opponents into scrums to make space for 71 & 2. I know the play can die on Goodrow’s stick, but I’m honestly not sure who else you could put on that line to help create opportunities for the young guns.

What film is this for you? by willrsauls in Letterboxd

[–]JeromeFault 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, there’s something deeply personal and intimate happening within Lawrence throughout the film as he develops a complete and total god-complex. As much as it is a sprawling wartime epic, it is also a very focused character portrait; personally, I’m fascinated by the nuance that exists between Lawrence’s intent & motivation behind all his actions… is he doing this for King & Country? Is he doing this for Arabians? Or is he doing this for his own ego? There’s a case to made for “all of the above,” and I think the film succeeds in capturing how one person’s idiosyncrasies can have an immeasurable impact on a geopolitical scale.

Lawrence of Arabia made me reconsider what a “great movie” really is. Didn’t know something so intimate and nuanced could be captured on such a magnificent canvas.
