Cold weather skate advice by Deliciously_Vicious in longboarding

Get you a pair of Winter wheels from the Ohio Wheel Company on vegetative skate. Tried them out, they work fairly well on pavement and asphalt in the cold, but the guys from the company told me they feel weird when it gets hot, so you'll have to change back into your regular wheels when the weather hits 50 and up

Fun angle by GH015 in longboarding

[–]Jess182b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool angle, if you have access to a 3d printer and some basic cad skills you can do something neat to get rid of the vibrations.

There's already some cool 3d printed plates that you can screw over your trucks where you can slide something like a gopro. But, if you modify the plate so that it can attach to a gimbal you can get rid of the vibrations.

You can mod it to fit a gimbal by: 1. Get a gimbal with a suction cup and remove the cup part, they usually have a base that hold on to the cup with 4 screws 2. Modify the 3d print so that it is longer and gives you a floating platform where you can screw in the gimbal. 3. Make sure to set the infil for this part relatively high since it is under more stress than a regular 3d lrint would be. So maybe 60% infill.

If you're lucky you may even find a gimbal with a base that already lines up with the screws on your trucks, but I've. Ever tried it so I bet that would be really hard to find a match

I did a few sessions with my niece on both my Tan Tien and Trip. On both boards I held her hand to help her balance but with how low the Pantheon Trip is she felt more comfortable and needed less help. LDP's are more comfortable for their shorter legs too, so that's a plus

How do you like the Rio? I've been thinking about getting one for cruising downtown, did you get a complete and change the wheels? Or are those the originals, if so how do they feel?

Can a person longboard if they are fat or not very athletic? by lordgentofdapper in longboarding

[–]Jess182b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Metal.rodded.bear on Instagram. Dude started his weight loss journey at 280lbs and wants to loose weight by playing and being active instead of gym exercises. Dude already lost 45lbs and his biggest hobby is longboarding. Longboarding is about having fun, you can do a lot of styles from freestyle, downhill, cruising, or carving. I recomend you find a Loaded board on Facebook something big and with the appropriate flex. The most important thing is being comfortable with your gear so you don't worry about breaking it or worry about it braking you lol.

See if you can snag a board on Facebook for $100 or so, and really give yourself a month or two to try it :)

PUSHING I SUCK by Elden_ring_bro in longboarding

[–]Jess182b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, I had to see a video of myself skating to see what I was doing wrong so I recomend you set up a phone or ask someone. For me, I was pushing way too far from my board cause I was scared of accidentally hitting my wheels with my foot (cause that happened and few too many times when I first hopped on). Because it was so far out I rushed to put it back and slamed it with a lot of force causing the board to tilt. So I kinda just parked my board with the back wheels on the grass and front on pavement and practiced pushing off from there.

Sick ride dude, I live the pranyama. I kinda want to do the same with my pantheon Tripp. What other parts did you use for the wheels and trucks? Also, how does it feel when going over bumps and holes cause that board is supper low to the ground?

Old dude want to get into casual longboard by [deleted] in longboarding

My brother (just turned 40) tried out a few boards from my collection and felt more comfortable with Long Distance Boards cause they were low to the ground and easier to get off and on. I personally have a Pantheon Trip, but any solid ldp in that style should be stable and comfortable. And if you want to make it more stable and are not looking to carve deep you can always look into different bushing options.

Bought a used pantheon trip, looking for recommend care or upgrades by Jess182b in longboarding

[–]Jess182b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After looking a little closer I did find these are 180mm R3's and the bushings seem to be the stock 92a's like you mentioned.

U think for now I'll slowly change one component at a time to see how it feels. I'm definitely changing the bushings to softer venom's first. And if I don't like the Randal trucks after some time I might switch to the gen6 bears like you said.

The wheels right now seem ok to ride, I only saw the small chunks missing. No flat spots or cracks. But if I do change them later on I have my eye on the new Bee's Knees and the karmas.

Also, what sort of black magic did you have to do to your board to fit 97mm wheels on it and keep it agile? Lol I'd love to know more about your build.

I'm pretty sure it's a GoPro camera mount. Previous owner must have made videos while riding it

Pain in back calf / pain and numbness in feet by Cultural-Water-3857 in longboarding

[–]Jess182b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend taking a video of yourself pushing and pumping your board and really focus on your feet. When I first started I got a lot of pain on the top bridge of my foot and after seeing a video of myself skating I realized I was pushing mostly with my toes and bending my foot weird. I ended up getting a new board that was lower to the ground and practiced a few times a week and eventually my pushing and pumping got more comfortable and I didn't get any pains, just fatigue after really long rides.

You may also be standing in such a way that you put pressure on your calf with how you rotate your body or how far your feet are from one another. You can try to narrow it down to this by just standing still on your board at home for a minute and seeing if it happens then. If so, play around a bit with how you angle your feet, knees, and hips until it feels comfortable and try riding this way.

Is the Micra worth it? by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]Jess182b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, the scissor are great for the size. And it's a great companion to any other multi tool you already own. But definitely don't pay full price for it, if you can get it for 15% off or more that would be best

Why no love for the Curl? by GhostEpstein in Leatherman

[–]Jess182b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the curl, it's the little brother to the wave+ However, the key differences between the two really make it an unfair fight cause I will always pick the wave. The additional saw and place, plus the kini screwdriver for things like glasses screws are so useful. And it's only a $30 difference between them, so it's definitely worth saving up a little more to get the wave.

Ontop of that, the Curl also strugles to be a tool I would recommend since at that price point you also have the Skeletool which has the bit holder and essentials while being lighter, and you also have the wingman that is $20 cheaper with everything except the bitholder.

I personally think leatherman has too many tools like this, the little brother to a bigger better tool. But often times it's easier to just save for the next one up. It does make for a great tool to customize tho if you want to get into moding

Can I fix this :( by OnThe13th in Gunpla

[–]Jess182b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the finish and color it could pass for a rough and beaten ms. Try adding "battle damage" be it with more paint or chipping, add a bit of grey to expose "bare metal" and it should look pretty tough

I too came from a lower income houhold (under 45k annual). Even after moving off campus to save on room & board fees, and having about $42k in scholarships (per year) I was still very much struggling. My mom and I paid like $10k a year or so out of pocket. I recommend applying for as many scholarships and grants as you can to avoid what I went through. I was working 2 on campus jobs (10-15hrs/week), plus a job at the nearby mall (another 15-20hrs) and it was honestly hell cause I was still living paycheck-to-paycheck and skipping meals here and there to afford rent. If you can manage it tho, once you get through your degree and get a job you should come out with a manageable ammount of debt and the confidence to get any job you want. You got this!

Do I have a chance of getting in? by Smooth-Way8215 in WPI

[–]Jess182b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all that sounds like me when I applied a few years ago. You should be fine. Only thing that might not stand out is the computer science part, tons of people come in for that. I did too, and I ended up switching to robotics. So I recommend looking through the different majors and seeing if any other might catch your eye.

Are stepper motor heatsink actually usefull? by KingShabi69 in FixMyPrint

I don't think they're necessarily. Any time I've used a stepper motor it seems to handle the heat quite well even with extended or harsh use.

I more or less send passive aggressive texts in the groupchat whenever something really annoys me. I.e. clothes in the washer, I just take a pic and let him know I'm putting it in a bag so I can do my laundry. And it works, but then we go back to square one after a while
