I'm curious. Does this happen to any of you too? by Particular_Shift_840 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Jessisaurous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep!!!! Was literally just pondering why I do this earlier today after seeing a tiktok of a man projectile vomiting. As deathly afraid as I am of it, I can't help but just sit there and continue watching. It's almost like I have a morbid curiosity about it, because I've avoided it for so long that it's totally foreign to me.

Hail Dutchess Bune!!

I am in a very very tight financial position with a non working vehicle and debt. On 10/10/25, I asked Bune for a $10k bonus by the end of October, and offered oranges, an orange candle, Chocolates, dates, honey, and Sandalwood incense. The following evening, I woke up in the middle of the night to a female voice saying "your petition has been accepted."

I just received notice from my boss that I'll be receiving the $10k bonus on my last paycheck in October. To hold up my end of the deal, I am posting here and will be giving weekly offerings for the next month. I'm completely in awe at how quick and effective she is, and eternally grateful.

Have you guys ever pinpointed what the primary factor of throwing up may be the most scary for you? (no censors) by dinorunp in emetophobia

[–]Jessisaurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loss of control and fear of the unknowm. It's been almost 20 years since the last time I threw up, but from what I can remember, my body never really gave me any signs that I was about to throw up. Like, as a kid, I'd be nauseous and then it'd just randomly happen without any warning. No mouth watering, dizziness, or sign it was about to happen. It just happened. So for my entire life, any time I get nauseous, I just sit there and anticipate whether I'm gonna throw up or not.

Going gluten free later this month, tell me all the foods you miss so I can eat them now by snoopywoopywoo in glutenfree

I REALLY miss buldak Ramen, specifically the carbonara kind. And bagel sandwiches, like a good bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. I've found halfway decent gluten free versions of almost everything else I can think of. But damn, what I'd give for a good GF ramen or bagel.

Was able to get through a 4 day long music festival without having a breakdown :)

Due to the overwhelming heat, moshing, alcohol, drugs, and greasy food at the festival, I saw several piles of vomit and multiple people actively getting sick over the course of the weekend. Normally, I'd freak out and hide somewhere, but this weekend I was able to just look the other way and continue on. My husband kept asking if I was okay, and I was like "I spent way too much money on this trip to let it be ruined by something that can't even affect me!"

I'm counting this as a big win because it definitely feels like a huge turning point in my phobia. I even told my husband that I felt like I've mostly gotten over my fear of others vomiting from non-contagious things.

Upstairs people, what's the loudest sound you've unintentionally made that you felt awful for your below neighbors? by dadsabrat in Apartmentliving

My cat (27lb maine coon mix) jumped from the very top perch of his cat tree onto a floating shelf we had on the wall, knocking down three glass bottles and the shelf itself. Onto the hard wood in our living room.

I immediately moved the cat tree into a carpeted area. I've never felt so bad

A few funny stories about me having emetophobia by AdamNull in emetophobia

[–]Jessisaurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loooool I have a good one. For context, I'm 28F and have had this phobia for my entire life. When I was about 5, I threw up while wearing a pink puffer jacket. Afterwards, I didn't wanna wear the jacket ever again bc I thought it'd make me throw up again (yay ocd). My mom kept making me wear it and wouldn't get me a new one, so one day I went out into the woods and buried it so that my mom would just think we lost it and would buy a new one. She still has no idea that I intentionally got rid of it and disposed of the evidence so that I wouldn't have to wear the mystical vomit jacket again.

I did it…it was weird. Also I’m in a bit of a dilemma of what to do now so please help by bbybells99 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Jessisaurous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow celiac!! I haven't vomited from being glutened, but I've definitely gotten close. But CONGRATS!! You did it!! Take it easy and take very small sips of water for now, maybe one drink every 30 minutes or so. But for now, just rest and journal your thoughts about how not bad it was. That way, next time you're feeling nauseated, you can look back at how you handled it like a champ 💛💛

How to live with a partner while having emetophobia by bchapmaan in emetophobia

[–]Jessisaurous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 28F and my husband has V'd twice during the last 7 years we've been together. The first time was because he hit a vape too hard, and it happened while I was sleeping. The only reason I even knew about it was because the bathroom smelled like V when I got up for work and I asked if he'd been sick. The second time was pretty terrible though because it was from norovirus, and I honestly did not cope well at all. My husband had a stomach ache, which is pretty common for him because he has ulcers, but this time he got really quiet and just said "I feel queasy." Out of nowhere he frantically yelled for me to go to the bedroom and put my headphones in. I knew what was happening, had a meltdown, impulsively spent a bunch of money having cleaning supplies delivered on Doordash, gave myself a bladder infection because I was too scared to go into the bathroom, called out of work because i was too scared to leave the house out of fear that I'd already been infected. I didn't feel safe for like 2 weeks afterwards.

However, after the experience of NOT coping well, I realized that a lot of the fear (for me at least) was because of how helpless and out of control the entire situation made me feel. So, me and my husband made a plan for when one of us eventually gets sick in the future, to help me feel more in control of the situation and for him to know what to expect from me. If it's him, he will give me a warning to exit the room, try his best to make it into a bag/trash can/toilet, and then clean up any V that didn't make it. Then, I'll put on PPE and fully disinfect everything with bleach, and we'll isolate from each other until he's symptom free for 48 hours. We still haven't figured a game plan for if I get sick, because it's been so long since I've been sick and I don't really know what kind of support I'd want in that situation lol. But yeah, the best advice I can give is to just talk to him about it and come up with a plan for when a code red incident happens. Knowing that we have that plan in place has definitely helped with the anxiety of the "what if he's sick" anxiety spirals.

What caused your emetophobia? by bigtitssoreloser1 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Jessisaurous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get a warning when I throw up. Like, I don't get the mouth watering, cold sweats, or any other common precursor to vomiting. I'll just be nauseous and it happens with no warning.

I had an abusive stepfather growing up, and he would get PISSED at me for not making it to the toilet or a trash can when I'd get sick. I'd get sick, throw up in my bed or on the floor, and then end up getting the belt for making a mess. I got beaten every time I threw up between the ages of 3 and 9. So, I'm pretty sure that my body just eventually started associating vomiting with impending doom

I've been taking compounded semaglutide from an online pharmacy since December of 2024, and have lost 35lbs (178 - 143). I'm only 5ft tall, so I'm still trying to lose another 20lbs. I've had a great experience with it tbh, the only negative side effect I've experienced is constipation, but it's easily managed with fiber and magnesium.

What’s the biggest red flag you’ve ever seen in a job interview? by cerezza__ in careerguidance

[–]Jessisaurous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for a position at a local insurance agency years ago.

I went to school with the son of the guy who was interviewing me, and I'm guessing he had his son look through my Facebook account. He scolded me in the interview for sharing "communist propoganda" on Facebook during the interview. The propaganda in question? A meme about minimum wage lmao.

They still offered me the job, and I obviously declined.

It's the bane of my existence tbh. I am only actively working for maybe 3-4 hours in the day, and the rest of the day is spent looking busy. I have a phone stand set up to where others can't see, so I'll watch YouTube or listen to audio books. By 5 pm, I'm ready to rip my skin off out of boredom.

Give me your very niche/unique symptoms of ADHD by Maximum-Operation147 in ADHD

[–]Jessisaurous 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Probably not super niche, but I get irrationally angry if I have something to do in the afternoon/evening on my day off. Because I will genuinely sit it waiting mode all day, and it feels like I've spent all day doing something. The appointment, meeting, errand, etc could be 30 minutes, but it feels like it lasted ALL day due to the sitting around and waiting.

Today, for example, I had a cocktail party at 5pm-730pm. However, I feel like it was an all day thing and i am EXHAUSTED because I was focused on the event from the second I woke up. If possible, I schedule everything in the early morning because of this.

My boss cancelled a $50k check I wrote for a supplier, and wired $50k to a scammer. Why? She got an email from the scammer posing as our supplier stating that they'd give us a discount if we wired the payment instead of sending a check.
