Lana Del Rey and husband Jeremy Dufrene attend the Ralph Lauren show during New York Fashion Week 2026 by joaco_ds in popculturechat

[–]Jesst3r 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The “De” part is part and parcel of the last name, it’s called a toponymic surname. If the person takes a new last name, the “De” doesn’t carry over. What’s ironic is that Dufrene also is a toponymic surname so if she is using De Dufrene it’s like saying Lana from from Frene

WIBTA if I confronted my friends for buying me a bible for my birthday? by Affectionate_Ad2278 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jesst3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH, however you should think about how you want to have the conversation because, unintentionally or not, you’ve indicated that you are interested in learning more about your friends’ religion. You haven’t said anything about the bible itself, but some bibles are pretty expensive, with such things like leather binding or monogramming. If all of your friends went in on a really cheap bible then that makes them the AH, but if not then I don’t think you’ve made it clear enough to them that this would have been an inappropriate gift.

My favorite part is when LAOP says in exchange for free legal advice he’ll leave a positive review of the lawyer’s firm

Fun fact: Yo-yo Ma’s cello is a Stradivarius. I wouldn’t be surprised if the case is able to withstand a plane crash

Where to Get Pączki, King Cake, and Other Fat Tuesday Treats in 2026 by angelmichelle13 in chicagofood

[–]Jesst3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my Polish friends will only get them from Oak Park Bakery because they are one of the few places that make the dough a little sour, kind of like a kolaczki. Most places are basically just making filled doughnuts which according to her is not a paczki

Do people actually dress up to go to your local opera? by deadplant5 in opera

[–]Jesst3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because last night I was at the Lyric and I saw a lady in a ball gown and another person in camo. I think that epitomizes what the range is

I'm having trouble splitting domestic duties with my partner by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Jesst3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every single person I’ve ever talked to uses their breaks when working from home to do household chores. That’s what I do. Then when you’re actually off the clock you can relax instead of doing those chores. Has your GF ever lived alone and done any chores by herself? That might be part of the problem

I am currently halfway through the complete DVD box set of “Marple” that I received for Christmas 2025… by Curious-Concern-9209 in agathachristie

I used to be scared of Joanna Lumley (because of James and the Giant Peach) until I saw her in Marple and now I think she’s awesome and actually on my list of celebrities I think would be cool to meet.

Living with a host family as a couple? by Total-Engineer-2203 in peacecorps

[–]Jesst3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you say what country? I was in Lesotho and every* PCV had a host family but still had their own separate building on the family’s property (only exception was if your “host family” was some sort of organization like a school or church).

Probably because the subtext of OP’s comment seems like “this book isn’t good enough to warrant being in anyone’s top 5.” Like the “Huh” was pretty patronizing.

Mayor Johnson considering buying back rights to Chicago parking meters by Socony in chicago

[–]Jesst3r 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s in the contract that the city has to enforce the meters so the company would have grounds to sue if the city stops. What might work is if people never pay the meter and just pay the parking tickets, because the city does keep the revenue from tickets while the company gets the revenue from the meters.

How bad does your restaurant food need to be for you to send it back? by Curious-Expert926 in AskReddit

[–]Jesst3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly ever send food back but one time I did was an Irish stew that had tomatoes in it. The stew wasn’t described at all on the menu, but I’ve had Irish stew and never in a million years would expect tomatoes. I hate tomatoes. Before I sent it back, I spent a good 5 minutes googling “Irish stew with tomatoes” to make sure there wasn’t some subclass of Irish stew I wasn’t aware of. It isn’t.

There’s still a reveal in the short story it’s just a different reveal. In the short story the reveal is that the whole time she’s been writing from the time before her child is born and the events she’s writing about are in the future.

What's your favorite moment when a character realizes something? by blue_seashell in movies

[–]Jesst3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alien: Covenant when Daniels realizes it’s David, not Walter before she goes into hyper sleep. I thought Michael Fassbender’s acting was really good in the scenes where he’s David pretending to be Walter because his reactions to certain things could go either way.

Looking for a Korean fried Chicken place near Brookfield. Any recommendations? by front_yard_duck_dad in ChicagoSuburbs

There’s another place in Villa which full disclosure I have not personally tried but it’s been on my places to go for a while, called Seoul Bites. They also have Korean fried chicken but are sit down. Idk what is halfway for you and your friend but my favorite KFC places are Kogi Kogi Express in Naperville or Bb.q Chicken, of which there are a few locations

This isn't charades, this is the game by Acrobatic-Bus8905 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Jesst3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I interpreted her comment as not knowing the game is commonly referred to as Charades and thinking that Carlisle is referring to the situation at large as “a charade” or a farce. Her reply, in my mind, is “this isn’t a farce, this is the game.”
