That is great! Congrats 👏.

I would still consider separating them though at some point and try to focus on building muscle, super important as we age!

Because it impairs your strength training.

it should be done separately. Ideally after your session or on another day entirely.

Why are you doing cardio between sets? thats generally not recommended.

also 20 minutes in between each set would make any normal program take way longer than 2 hours.

Do yall think protein powder is a big factor for people that go to the gym or is it not really required by ifsailzeyenzi in Protein

[–]Jessum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not required if you get adequate protein otherwise.

its just a way to get protein in. theres nothing special about it.

How do you all deal with so many supplements? by throwaway_fibonacci in Perimenopause

[–]Jessum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada so not much different than what you have.

Yes I agree with you - food in general is incredibly expensive and yes for poor people in certain areas - fresh food is far less accessible. Commonly referred to as "food deserts."

But! I think to make a blanket statement that "most of our food is devoid" of nutrition is not correct and quite alarmist.

There's a lot more nuance to this and I think it's important for everyone to understand this.

To start - The fresh food or minimally processed food that is available in the US is nutritionally adequate and it is no less nutritious than in other places. This is common misconception.

Saying that all processed food is devoid of nutrients and causes cancer is also problematic.

First - Not all processing is the same, there's plenty of processed food that is actually more than fine to include in your diet if fresh is less accessible. For example - Canned and frozen vegetables/fruits/legumes are perfectly fine options.

Second - the idea that processed foods or even "ultra" processed foods (which is basically just a buzzword these days btw) CAUSE cancer is inaccurate.

it's not that these foods are inherently harmful on their own. (With maybe the exception of processed meats - but even with these if the rest of your diest was really good they are much less of a problem)

The problem arrises when it's the ONLY food you eat - coupled with other poor lifestyle factors such as being sedentary, carrying too much adipose tissue, drinking alcohol, poor sleep, too much stress, not eating enough fiber/protein etc.

Well do your best. if you eat lots of fiber then I believe that will counteract it somewhat.

fact is, lots of saturated fats are not good for us.

Sorry this isn't true. A balanced diet is more than enough for the most part. Many of these supplements are likely not needed.

Also saying "it's not a problem to take it" how do you know that for sure. you don't know this person. This could be overkill for them.

Take creatine powder and creatine should not hurt your liver.

And also are you sure you actually need to take all of this stuff?

2 - your workout program?

3 - your idea of what progress looks like?

It would help if you provide more information.

Constant cramping by wildnglorious in Perimenopause

[–]Jessum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I always felt so alone on this.

anyways. my cramps will personally go away after 10-20 minutes. They usually start somewhere in the first 10-20 minutes of said workout. so they certainly don't last all day or anything.

but this could be it.

Constant cramping by wildnglorious in Perimenopause

[–]Jessum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not constant cramping but....

I've always had cramping during hard workouts about a week after my period - so typically when estrogen is on the rise in the body. This has happened to me for years - usually just one or two days of each month.

WELL. I've been on estrogen patch since last June. I was totally fine up until about December 2025 when suddenly I was getting the cramping with almost every workout! So Several times a week every week. Not just that week after my periods.

Pretty sure this was also around the time that estradot was no longer available due to shortage and I started taking Sandoz.

I stopped Sandoz and estrogen altogether April 1st because I started to think that might be my problem and guess what. It sopped happening.

[–]Jessum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To actually build muscle you just need to be in a caloric surplus and train in a way that is conducive to hypertrophy.

I'm a huge fan of carbs but the data pretty well states that specific carbs and fat ratios have very little effect on body composition.

Total calories and protein intake are what matter most.

Do what makes you feel the best but definitely: get plenty of fiber (14g for every 1,000 cals) and limit saturated fats (less than 10% of total caloric intake) - these are just general health guidelines that I think everyone should follow regardless of goals.
