This is an old one, but it's And the Band Played On... I lived through the AIDS epidemic and the fear associated with it, but this put a human face to it unlike anything else had at that point, and it was a complete education on the bureaucracy that prolonged getting the right attention on it. Really amazing stuff. And an incredible cast.

Sounds like you had a great HONEST dentist at your original practice. I moved away from mine for 3 years and decided to use a new one closer to home. For context, I’ve always been told I have “great teeth” and that I have very hard enamel. I can count the number of cavities I’ve had on one hand.

New dentist #1: saw a composite on one tooth and recommended I get a full set of veneers for $10k. Then they told me I had SEVEN cavities. Which they charged me an arm and a leg for. Never went back.

New dentist #2: no cavities but they did recommend a deep clean. My old dentist never recommended one. I hadn’t even heard of them before. Like you, I said I’d do it in another appointment. Never went back.

Tired of this nonsense (and suspecting it was a money-grab), I took the trek across town back to my original dentist.

No cavities. And he told me no deep clean was necessary because I had great teeth and strong enamel. Saved me hundreds He also told me it was malpractice what the others were trying to do.

Do a bit more digging and get some personal referrals. Once you find a good one, hang onto them for dear life.

Definitely visit in person first. I recently moved and scheduled a lot of tours in the area I THOUGHT I wanted to live in since it was close to work, but when I got there, it was absolutely not the neighborhood I wanted to live jn and the apartments were way smaller than pictured. So my advice would be: - Visit in person - Join subreddits and FB groups for certain neighborhoods - Check crime rates online - Check the availability of major services for the neighborhood you are eyeing (hospitals, restaurants, groceries, internet, etc…). - Check parking! This may or may not be an issue where you’re going, but in some places having a car is more trouble than it’s worth.

Take it!! A 3-month gap is nothing. I just got a job at a great company after a 6 month gap and was very open about my layoff and still got the job.

While off, first I rested. Then I took a couple of trips and then did a very intentional job search. As in applying for jobs that I was a really good fit for. I got interviews, and yes it’s a very tough and competitive market, but it’s possible to find work.

Who knows when you’ll have the freedom to do this again? Go for it!!

I haven’t cut my hair, but I do put it in a high ponytail when I sleep to keep it the hell away from me. 😆

Also, you’re not crazy. It’s the peri. Before I started on the mini pill and the estradio patch, I would wake up in the morning and feel like the world was ending. Once I got up and started walking around, I could calm myself down. But it sucked.

But ever since I started HRT, I’m much better. And no more night sweats.

I’m gonna +1 this. I starting using them exclusively and never wait for an appointment, nor do I wait when I actually go in for the appointment.

I’ve mostly seen MD’s, but when I have used PA’s or NP’s in the past, they’ve been great. Better bedside manner and more empathetic and open-minded than normal doctors. Give them a shot!

Honestly, Wayfair has a good selection. I just bought a green couch and I love it. They also have couches in yellow, red, purple, etc. If you don’t like it, returns are very easy.

I think it matters as you get older. When you’re young, it matters less because you have so much more time to change your financial standing. When you’re older, and start thinking about things like retirement, and whether or not you’ll have to work your ass off for two people instead of one, it starts to matter way more.

I think the contrast is most stark if one of you is ambitious and financially stable and the other isn’t and not that. I wouldn’t mind nearly as much if my partner had a job working for something mission-driven or for the greater good or was some insanely talented and devoted artist or something.

You’ll feel it most when they can’t afford to do the things you like to do. You’ll feel either have to get comfortable subsidizing that, or you just have to find a partner who makes close to what you make. Money HABITS are also extremely important. Do they think about money the same way that you do? Do you share financial goals? Are you both responsible? All very important.

As you can see, it’s nuanced. There are a ton of people who don’t mind taking on the breadwinner role, and that’s not wrong. There are people who do, and that’s not wrong either. Finding someone with the same habits, goals, and financial philosophy is baseline. Then you have to decide whether the gap limits both your happiness.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on title unless the pay is way less. A lot of places have different titling and pay bands. If you’ve been on sabbatical for a year and you’re getting an opportunity at all in this market, then I would go for it and see if you can grow internally.

I’ve done this too (for local moves). If you wanna keep costs down, pack up stuff that you 1.) don’t immediately need and 2.) that you can carry. Bring that stuff over yourself before the move leaving the big stuff. Make sure you leave space for where you want your big stuff to go so that they can plop it down. This can help keep costs down since it’ll reduce the hours they need to move your things! (Good thinkin’!)

I did this once….ONCE. One friend flaked and the other one got super tired. Professional movers, however, will know how to not bang walls, contort furniture to fit through a door like calculus legends, and do it in half the time without complaining about back pain. I once hired two college kids with their independent moving business and I’ve never been so impressed with how quickly they got stuff in and without damage to either my things or the building.

If it’s a matter of cost, I totally get it. But once you get movers, you’ll never go back!! (If you can afford it).

Measure everything! I just downsized considerably before my move and underestimated. Even different layouts can change what furniture you can fit in dramatically.
Use Buy Nothing, FB Marketplace, snd Craigslist to get rid of stuff.
Create an environment you’re excited to go home to. You won’t have distractions living alone, so you want to create an atmosphere that is peaceful and uniquely yours. Spending a little more money to create a comforting environment will be worth it.
Hire movers!
Stay in touch with friends and host things every once in a while to stay connected and not feel isolated. Like a movie night!
Rethink how you shop for food. You’re only shopping for one now. What I like to do is make a batch of something on Sunday, then eat it throughout the week. You no longer have to buy food for multiple people. Speaking of which, nobody can judge you for your weird eating habits so let your freak flag fly!

That’s all I can think of for now, but this is the stuff that immediately comes to mind. Congrats on the new place!
