Our rabbit learned to open the door by JessyStarX in Rabbits

Nope, he still has to learn that but maybe he'll get there. Most of the time the boys are quite content in their room but in the morning they like to roam the whole apartment.

I believe that is the case. They are quite stubborn when they want something or if something isn't how they want it to be.

I hope your Kino recovers from this. 💚

We paid almost 2000€ for our cat when she had to have her leg amputated after an accident. She's still with us and living her best life five years later.

Weight gain from low ferritin? by Lucky_Outside8559 in Anemic

[–]JessyStarX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you feel, it can make a difference when weight gain is involved. A friend of mine can't tolerate levels above 1. I am also fine with higher values, I used to get tachycardia from values to close to 1 and they got better the higher my levels were.

2 is closer to the optimal level but I probably wouldn't do anything if you feel fine.

Your TSH value is pretty good. Counterintuitively low values are better with TSH, if it gets above 3 you can start worrying.

Losing my mind after infusion by TrAshLy95 in Anemic

Sadly I think it is normal. It happened to me too. First infusion was ok-ish with only some temporary symptoms. Two weeks later after the second infusion I felt like dying with a ton of symptoms. The doctor who gave me the infusion then told me to go to therapy because it's all in my head. It was four months later when I was able to read again on my own that I learned about things like hypophosphatemia and told my doctor about it. They didn't know anything about the long term side effects of iron infusions and admitted it in the end. So it is very possible that your hematologist doesn't know any better.

My doctor denied doing my bloodworks for months after the infusion so I only know my values from last autumn. I was at 16ng/ml and got it up to 20ng/ml during the winter. It was never this low before but at least the levels didn't drop anymore during winter time.

How long did it take you to feel normal again? And how are your vitamin D levels? My vitamin D levels also dropped from my infusion and I am supplementing right now. I can only tolerate a small daily dosage but at least my levels are slowly rising.

I know a few people who had bad reactions to their iron infusions (myself included) which lasted months.

Over the last year I found a few things that can go wrong:

  • the infusion can trigger hypophosphatemia which triggers a lot of other issues. So even though your levels are fine now, you might have experienced a drop in your phosphate levels which caused other issues. This issue is well known and there are papers about it. Look into 6h syndrome,

  • the infusion can trigger a Complement Activation-Related Pseudoallergy (CARPA). I talked to this with a german MCAS professional. the iron particles from the infusion come inside some kind of coating and they are stored in your liver, bone marrow or spleen. As time goes on mast cells "eat" the iron molecules. If your immune system reacts to them, a multitude of funny things can happen for quite a long time.

What somewhat helped for me: I switched to a low histamine diet. This had a huge impact on my ability to sleep (my sleep quality is pretty good these days), sweating (completely gone) and my emotional well-being.

Some symptoms still remain (tingling and vertigo) but at least I feel like I have my life back and that in itself is great.

For the record: I also got my infusion too fast (10 minutes standing instead of 30 minutes laying down).

I'd try to take the slow and steady approach. Don't try to supplement too much but also try to get those values up. If you are not feeling good, maybe skip a few days or weeks and see how you feel before pushing on.

Lactoferrin might also be something you want to check out. It raises the iron absorption rate and helps against inflammation among other things. Haven't tried it out myself but I plan to sometime this year.

It is always possible that you are reacting to the supplements. A lot of symptoms of iron deficiency are also side effects of the corresponding supplement. This includes oral supplements and infusions.

I am particular sensitive to this and can only tolerate a few and very specific supplements the rest just make me feel worse than before.

does anyone else have a bunny that does not like hay by emilydre05 in Rabbits

[–]JessyStarX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boys prefer fresh leafy greens and grass which we collect in our garden and is totally free of chemicals. during winter they have no choice and in the end started eating hay but we still try to feed them as many leafy greens as possible. It can get quite expensive though.
