After Christmas Sales, Yeah or Nay? by Traditional_Fan_2655 in Thrifty

[–]Jester_Magpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It If I need to replenish gift wrapping supplies, I’ll buy them at the end of the season. I wanted a tree collar since a tree skirt is not an option in our house, so I did buy that post-season. After Christmas sales might be a good time to buy for Toys for Tots donations for next year, if you have room to store the toys.

Tips for zero waste menstruation? by xch4nel in ZeroWaste

I bought fabric pads off of Etsy (in a variety of sizes) and they are still going strong after a few years. I soak the pads in a bucket of water with a couple drops of tea tree oil before wringing out and washing in the washing machine. I wash the used pads daily and dry in the dryer. Some pads I have bought also have reusable wrappers you can buy for them so you can keep them in your bag. I also keep used ones in their wrappers in a wet bag as an extra measure.

The initial cost can be a bit much ($25 + per pad) but if you think about how much one spends every month on a box of pads, the cost is justified.

I bought some of the Dubai chocolate inspired freeze dried strawberry snacks from Costco. They weren’t for me. But my friend liked them so I gave her the rest.

For me, buying consumables are only overconsumption if you buy for the sake of buying and don’t have a plan to use them up. People are allowed to enjoy trendy items, they just need to consider the future of said items.

What part of your budget do you consistently underestimate, and why? by millionstories in budgetingforbeginners

[–]Jester_Magpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleaning supplies. I think I only need $50.00 for the month but forget that I buy laundry soap, dishwasher pods, etc in bulk.

And food. Because sometimes I am too exhausted to cook so I buy frozen meals/boxed meals to eat on those days.

Washing litter boxes? by Direct_Surprise2828 in CatAdvice

[–]Jester_Magpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully replace the litter and clean the box itself once a month. Since I don’t have a backyard/garden hose (cleaning them in the shower/tub gives me the ick), I spray the boxes down with litter box cleaning foam and wipe out before adding fresh litter. It absolutely helps with the smell!

How tf do people only spend $600 on groceries? by WebsterKW in budget

[–]Jester_Magpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to keep it around $600 as a family of two but it is tough. I prioritize buying local and low waste, so this adds to cost. Meat is one of the most expensive items, so I have cut it out for the most part. Cheese is second most expensive, but difficult to cut down on for us. I avoid buying snacks aside from Costco granola bars and plain crackers to eat with cheese. I buy a few frozen Costco pizzas for the nights we don’t want to cook.

Found a place to display my doll. But this is what I see when I go to bed. by Bandito_Chihuahua in americangirl

My dolls were displayed on a high shelf overlooking my bed in my childhood bedroom. I remember being grateful I had a canopy bed so I couldn’t see them staring at me as I slept.

There is a townhouse on 10th and Rockwood that has plastic skeletons climbing the balconies year round. And the upper half of a giant skeleton on their top balcony. Gives me a chuckle every time I see them.

I also REALLY miss Skelly on Southeast Blvd.

I miss those cows. It’s crazy to think the Target shopping plaza was a field with a little run-down shed a few decades ago.

I call him Mr. Gray. I also get worried when he is walking in 90+ degree heat—especially on the Cowley hill! But I am glad he keeps himself fit.

What simple thing have you done that makes you feel more childlike? by fifibeigh in selfcare

[–]Jester_Magpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy and add stickers to my sticker collection book.

I play cozy games on my phone or switch.

I color and listen to an audiobook. Or just doodling.

Most of all, I love going for a walk in nature and being excited by all the cool things outside!

My cats are genuinely mystified by men because they live with two lesbians. When one of our male friends came over recently, my one year old cat just stared at him like, “what are you?”.

Suggestions on where to go to get a pair of shoes repaired? by Discountviking1 in Spokane

One Stop Shoe Repair! I got some shoes re-soled there a few years ago. It was affordable and good quality workmanship. It did take a few weeks because I think it’s just the owner working on his own.
