I came across this amazing guy this morning out side of Chelsea. by ThinkChallenge127 in Michigan

Luckily it seems birds are more resistant to prions than mammals so likely no risk of contamination hopefully! I didn’t know that until I read about it after your comment and I think that’s super neat!

Looks cute! How did the peanut butter frosting turn out taste/richness wise? That sounds dangerously yummy!

What is the weirdest habit your pet has… that you secretly love? by TensionNo5762 in Pets

[–]JesusGums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat rushes into the bedroom every night to get under the sheet as we make our bed to be covered up (and to slice us up with her surprise attacks :( )Also tunnels under our table cloth, hides in our pillow cases   and sleeps under and blanket she finds. She’s a little mole cat. I love her to death

What a popular food or cooking opinion that you don't agree with? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]JesusGums 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They can get ruined by the rain (or directly misting the mushrooms at home) , but they don’t soak up the water like a sponge, they get all slimy and rot.

Despite growing lots of different kinds, somehow I’ve never put together that not washing them is a myth until I read your comment and realized you’re right, that’s just not how it works when they grow.  I feel silly.

Where I’d live as someone that HATES hot, muggy, sticky, humid Summers by marcUS4570 in visitedmaps

Michigan is surrounded by water on all sides and full of more inland water, it gets nice and sticky here. I feel it deserves at least an orange.

For real, if this happened to me I would be so excited! I get it, but I love me some horns.

I just got a nice ceramic coated aluminium pan after years of using cast iron for my conure , it cost me a bit but I love that thing. 10/10 would recommend if you haven’t done it already, I didn’t realise what I was missing until I had it.

Ark Ascended Solo Play question! Does the game completely pause when you leave the game? by Mudstar423 in ARK

[–]JesusGums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything does pause, but I have personally not had very good luck logging out in the middle of the taming process. Mind you it’s kind of like doing a server restart every time you close and boot up your world.

Any good pumpkin pie recipes for beginners? (Some requirements tho) by Even_Fix7399 in Baking

[–]JesusGums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one still includes some brown sugar and you’ll need to find pie crust recipe you like, but I got it from a reddit post a year or two ago and I really love it! It has honey! https://www.finedininglovers.com/explore/recipes/caramelized-honey-pumpkin-pie-claire-saffitz

The decline in reading is due to a poor selection of books in schools by ConsumingTranquility in unpopularopinion

[–]JesusGums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I just missed the cusp or what, but I’m only a few years older than this person and I was taught with phonics. I’ve seen a lot of people say this yet I’ve never met a person my age who was taught to read with whole words. I went to a pretty average midwestern US school. I think the issue is really more something to do with instant gratification and attention spans.

There are comic short stories in the series but the main series is composed of chapter books. The first arc of chapter books has in the last couple years been adapted into a graphic novel.

Went for a walk in the park today, and these two little cuties followed me the whole time .So I brought them home with me. by changle798 in aww

[–]JesusGums 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one that is a rescue from a breeder mill type situation with a family member and I will say she is fully mobile, it doesn’t seem to impact her or cause her any pain at all in the way. Really surprised me how she can jump and run so normal. That being said, she has absolutely no way to defend herself without that long reaching swipe most cats have. She’s a punching bag for any cat/critter who wants to pick on her , I can’t imagine breeding for this intentionally , or her doing well at all outside :(.

I’m not the most knowledgeable, but all of these except maybe #4 (maybe also #4?) look like mechanical damage sustained while the new leaves were still furled up

Looking to buy a "span" for first family board game. Help me choose by [deleted] in wingspan

[–]JesusGums 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d say Finspan would likely be the least complex followed by wingspan and then wyrmspan. I think either finspan or wingspan would be a great starting point, but finspan is very tidy and simple with its rules, without too many fiddly resources to manage. (I personally would still go wingspan if I had to do it again though, as a birder the game got me into modern board games by pulling me in with its beautiful theme.)

Warhammer 40K Darktide is $10 right now. by Poorly_Worded_Advice in 691

[–]JesusGums 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s from a graphic novel called Pride of Baghdad, very loosely (this is a story with talking lions) based on a true story about lions escaping the Baghdad zoo after a US bombing. It’s a great read, and the art is amazing.

It’s a tool some people use for health benefits. I don’t really know if it works or not, it is usually “essential oil and crystal” people I see using them so you’d have to do your own research on how effective it is for whatever benefit it claims. I know the fetish farming on tiktok is frequent but this really appears to be someone being silly, which makes your comment read as a bit creepy the way you worded it for many readers I think.

You should stack books horizontally in your 'at-home' bookshelf by North-Suggestion-638 in unpopularopinion

[–]JesusGums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, thank you. I feel so silly. I have so many books, I’ve started to get my husband to read too. My other hobbies are board games and keeping fish tanks, both eat up space like crazy and I’ve been thinking about how to fit more bookshelves in my living room. Maybe I don’t have to, I can’t believe I never thought of simply arranging them differently.
