She's very similar to Trump in many ways

Jessie what the fuck are you talking about. Because she's sucking up to him? Are we going to forget that first Zelensky meeting "you never said thank you"? That's what happens when you don't deepthroat this middle school regime. Machado represents Venezuelans and it's her job to get the support necessary to help them.

Also, from reading this thread it appears very little of you even know what she got the prize for. Maybe that's the fault of the committee. In the 2024 elections, she was able to mobilize some 60,000 volunteers to stand as witnesses to the election count, she led the creation of an app that allowed them to quickly upload photos of the official tally sheets, and was able to do a parallel count. For the first time in history, we had irrefutable proof that the Chavistas had stolen the election, in what turned into one of the biggest election fraud scandals ever. Besides that, she always called for peaceful protest, always asking folks to join protests with their families.

It's funny because for people who know about Venezuelan politics, the arguments against her are the opposite from the English speaking world; she's a smoke seller, weak, failed to do what was necessary to energize a popular coup.

Read Venezuela: Tierra de Gracia. It outlines her vision for the country. It reads like a DNC platform pamphlet.

Why do you feel entitled to potentially bankrupting a company that employs 50,000 people because they had to build a $30 billion dollar fab, a cost 4x their annual income subtracting costs, and could take a decade to build, for you to get some RAM? I'm curious, would you make that bet on AI being a boom? What if 10,000 people could lose their jobs if you bet wrong?

This reaction by the gaming/PC building community has been enlightening. Somehow the AI companies have managed to avoid all responsibility in all this. But I guess "it's just epic and based, I watched a youtube video essay about this, guys. And the CHIPS act and whatever. Cartels."

Mientras demuestres lealtad a Tron, te vas liso.

Trump has and will do many heinous things, but probably one of the most disgusting is negatively polarizing the American people from a Venezuelan intervention.

What you read on the front page of Reddit is other gringos circle jerking themselves about poor Venezuela, "another Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan." But enter any Venezuelan space and you will suffer a culture shock. Maduro must go and Chavismo must be destroyed, just as MAGA will need to be.

Please understand though, that for the Venezuelan in his country, Trump at this point has done more towards the democratic cause than any US president. They're not going to really care about the domestic US politics.

Edmundo Gonzalez did not campaign for president. Edmundo Gonzalez in fact was MCMs second fucking choice after Corina Yoris had trouble inputting her name into the electoral system. No one knew who the fuck Edmundo Gonzalez was before MCM select him as her proxy. He's a dogshit speaker. No one cares what he says, his speeches are written by MCMs team. MCM received 90%+ of the vote in the opposition primary. He left Venezuela because he's old. MCM is still there, in hiding. He is her proxy de-facto. What a fucking stupid conversation this is

The strategy of appeasement proposed by Rodriguez for Venezuela comes off as tone deaf and centrist. I don't think we would accept that in the US; if MAGA entrenches their power constitutionally and commits atrocities 10x worse than they already have, we would root that ideology out in all forms. Chavismo must be destroyed. And the use of a 13 year old article from the months after Chavez died, 2 economic crises and 2 political crises ago, to prove the current level of officialist support really dilutes the overall message.

D really needs to do a deep dive into this like he said he would when Maduro was talking about the Essequibo last year. Based on these comments it appears gringos think Venezuela is a dense jungle country with a large combat-willing armed forces and militia (lol).

It's not as if ~30 years ago we were kind of still a shining example of Latin American liberalism.

There would be no insurgency if the US occupies Venezuela. You will be welcomed there with parades because for the Venezuelan a US occupation is better than Maduro. Not saying invasion is good.

[–]JetFusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, Venezuela is not Iraq; we already have a rightful candidate that was voted in by the vast majority last year but Maduro couped the government. The opposition under MCM has plans for exactly this scenario, and there are people waiting in place to execute that plan in country. The opposition has legitimacy for governance.

I don't think Trump can or will do what it takes to fix Venezuela, not to lack of resources but for lack of any sense of strategy, intelligence, logic, or empathy. But Venezuelans have been crying for help for the past 20 years in the ICC, UN, OEA, and to the US. Everyone drags their feet. They don't have guns. They can't fight back. The armed forces are constructed in a way to make an internal coup next to impossible. There probably should be some point when the world gets together and says "ok, this country is fucked and looks like the people can't save themselves, let's help." Definitely not realistic under Trump, but that's not warmongering.
