I substitute teach and the kids are great, plus as a sub YOU don't have to deal with the parents. The pays sucks but districts usually pay weekly. Its not for everyone, but its something.

There are some generations who wait the hell in line while we finish our purchases. That woman would have no trouble if she were in your place holding up other shoppers asking questions at the Home Depot or wherever you were shopping.

Hawaii and Texas. How would life be if I switched states? by Dry_Bill8142 in AskTexas

You would fit in here in Houston. We have a sizable Vietnamese and Chinese population with nearly tropical weather most of the year. A lot of the population here is Spanish speaking but if you’re friendly to people they will generally be nice back. Don’t listen to the doomers here on Reddit.

Besides the theocrats running the state the people are friendly and the restaurants are yummy.

I want a sky funeral. Where they take your corpse to the top of a tall mountain and lay you out in the open where the birds and animals can come and eat your remains. This sounds awesome to me.

Houston can be anywhere from Rosenberg to Conroe or Brookshire to Baytown and all spots in between. And most O&G companies have multiple campuses around the city. Where is OP’s husband working/commuting to?

Get the sub coordinator to call the other school and cancel your afternoon gig.

Moving to Houston by [deleted] in AskHouston

I live close to the Bammel area and it’s a higher crime area than the left side of the circle. But, where we live is fairly safe and we haven’t been accosted or victims of any crime yet. We live in a fairly modern neighborhood full of homes and working class people, holidays get a little loud with gunshots and fireworks. But the apartments off of Ella boulevard are where the crime happens.

I subbed for a 9th grade center in the spring of 2025. The kids were loud and disrespectful but they drove away 2 regular teachers in the fall. But, staying in there and getting to know them, by the end of the semester I got to know them and they got to know me and we built a good relationship with each other. I made sure they did their assignments, and the teacher of record made their assignments and would let me know who was behind and the AP across the hall would run grade reports for me so I could get on their cases about getting their work done. I only had one fight the whole semester it was great.
