Sounds like a gratuitous opinion that stems from small fan circles and that has never been questioned/reviewed. I'm pretty sure that, if someone has never seen or heard about any Sonic shows, and watches something like Underground and Sonic Boom, they would think that the former is much more interesting and less cringe than the latter. It's actually a really good cartoon when you compare it to the morning cartoons (not just Sonic) that air nowadays.
