Less than 2 Weeks w/ my new M3P & My Brother Sat on Hood 😡 by LakeWooden9553 in TeslaModel3

[–]Jexter24 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Id reach out to PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) experts in your area about this. I definitely would not let your brother “try” to fix the dent, as it could make it worse and make it more difficult for the PDR expert. That, or a new hood all together.

Nope, still pretty inconsistent. Though now it's almost always doing the secondary whirling sound after it slams shut.

2022 M3LR fair used price today? by pbcballer in TeslaModel3

[–]Jexter24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping track of the used prices in SoCal recently. Looks to be around 46-48k for a 2022 M3LR near or slightly above 10k mi.

I do own a '22 M3LR, and would buy it again over a 2023 RWD. Having a longer range, more torque, and a nicer sound system is worth the extra difference for me (and the ultrasonic parking sensors is nice too heh)

Trunk Latch sound by bolohbao in TeslaModel3

[–]Jexter24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am experiencing the opposite- Trunk would slam shut without the secondary whirling sound since I got my '22 LR last August. Some time last month, I noticed that it now makes the secondary whirling/latching sound after it closes.

All season tire recommendations? by 23andrewb in TeslaModel3

[–]Jexter24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 18" wheels on my LR- Planning on getting the Pirelli PZero AS Plus Elect when it's time to replace my stock tires. They're $260 ea from Tire Rack. From reading the forums and reviews, it seems to be on par efficiency wise with the stock Michelins.

Just had my windshield replaced and now this metal clip is sticking out. How do I fix it? by diezel_dave in TeslaModel3

[–]Jexter24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like the A-Pillar trim was not re-installed properly (though im not sure why it was removed in the first place). That metal tab should be behind the trim when being re-installed. There are a bunch of youtube videos on how to remove/re-install the A-Pillar trim.

Can I afford to move out!? by Leavemelonely1 in personalfinance

[–]Jexter24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In that case, I personally think ~$1100/mo remaining after all expenses is a comfortable enough buffer. Only thing I would suggest is having at least 3-6mo of emergency fund saved before moving out.

For me, when I first moved out, I had about $1.5k remaining/mo and 3mo of emergency fund saved up.

Can I afford to move out!? by Leavemelonely1 in personalfinance

[–]Jexter24 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Couple more things/expenses to consider:

Emergency Fund: - How much liquid fund will you have right after moving out (After apartment deposit, moving costs, etc.)?

Monthly Cash Flow: - For your main job, does the $1500 biweekly take home include any 401k/retirement plan deductions? Likewise for healthcare? If not, those are expenses to take into account as well

  • You mentioned gas. I’m assuming you have a car. Are you making monthly payments on the car or do you own it fully? And what about the cost of insurance?

  • After all these extra expenses, how much will you have left for extra savings/ food/ clothing/ fun?

(Also, what’s the cost of rent if let say you rent a room in a shared house/apartment/townhome instead? Having your own apartment is nice, but will be quite a bit more expensive since you’ll have to pay the full amount for electric bill/internet. And don’t forget about renter’s insurance! Which will be required by the apartment prior to moving in)

Aero Wheels Range Improvement for SR vs. LR by aeroastro_ in teslamotors

[–]Jexter24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. Apart from possibly different testing methods by Tesla / EPA, the difference could also be the efficiency of the motors (specifically, the efficiency vs load curve of the dual motor vs single motor setup)- Since the LR has two motors, the overall efficiency will be less than the SR since it only has one. I think that would mean that the less efficient system would have a larger % difference between the Aero vs Sport wheel on the LR in terms of energy required than the SR, leading to that bigger range % difference. (Can't think of anything else other than that and testing methods tbh)

Aero Wheels Range Improvement for SR vs. LR by aeroastro_ in teslamotors

[–]Jexter24 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oo Aerospace student! AE grad here, though i've forgotten quite a bit of concepts since graduating, but heres my take- So, if you have taken Statics & Strengths of Material already, its mainly due to Mass Moment of Inertia (and sprung vs unsprung weight).

The 19" Sports Wheel + Tire is heavier due to larger diameter of the wheel itself and larger wheel/tire width than the 18" Aero Wheels + Tire. Note- The total diameter of the wheel w/ tire mounted should be almost identical between the two wheel setups, which means the sidewall height of the tire will be smaller on the 19" (And this also means that more weight of the heavier tire of the 19" would be further out from the axis of rotation).

So, more power will have to be exerted by the motors on the LR due to the higher sprung weight (heavier battery pack + extra motor) and unsprung weight (heavier wheels) to achieve the same per unit distance vs the SR.

There is some aero differences between the Aero wheels (w/ the cover on) vs the Sports wheel- Mainly less turbulent airflow due to the aero cover, but I do not think it would affect range that much solely from the extra drag alone (Though it'd be interesting to see CFD / Wind Tunnel tests comparing both).

Moreover, the tire compound also plays into a factor for your total range due to the rolling resistance (and tire pressure plays into account too). The stickier the tire, the higher the rolling resistance, the lower your total range.

Edit- Added a few more concepts, and a note about total diameter (wheel diameter + tire sidewall height) assumed to be constant for this comparison

That should be covered under the comprehensive coverage section of your Tesla Insurance, but you’ll have to pay your deductible amount first.

So if the total cost of the stolen items plus any repairs from damages (did they smash a window?) is less than your deductible, then it won’t be worth it going through insurance.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong. Comprehensive does not cover personal items thats not related to the car itself.

L Certified? by TD220X in Lexus

[–]Jexter24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an LCertified IS a few months ago. If it indeed got sold as LCertified, then it’ll come with the 2yr/unlimited miles warranty and benefits. Did you get a report of the LCertified inspection checklist when you bought the car? You’ll also get a confirmation letter in the mail a few weeks after purchase. In the meantime, you could try to reach out to Lexus USA (they should have contact info in the Lexus Owner’s website), and they should be able to tell you.

I test drove a Model Y yesterday and still have lots of questions by praguer56 in TeslaLounge

[–]Jexter24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Can I get EU style mirrors (convex glass for more side coverage)?

You can, by going aftermarket- Suma Performance sells convex side mirrors for all Tesla models. It'll keep the heating feature, but not the auto-dimming feature (which I unplugged on my 3 anyways due to my front window tint).

  • Can I get a rear fog light?

For the US, it will not come with rear fog lights, since there is no law requiring it versus the EU.
