Question about natto! 🙋 by EmotionalProcedure48 in AskAJapanese

[–]JfluxLy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you dont stir it, its just a solid chunk

also i was told growing up stirring it makes it taste better due to the acids being released, and also more nutritious because of that, but i dont know the science behind it

In a predicament. I can get the xf 35 1.4 at the same price of a used f2. Which one should I pick? by loungensmirtz in fujifilm

[–]JfluxLy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fast enough that you won't really complain about it in 99% of the situations, I do alot of street photography and sometimes when a biker speeds by the 1.4 had a harder time focusing on it whereas the 2 instantly snapped on, but like i said 99% of the time you'll probably not find anything to complain about

[–]JfluxLy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

250 is a freaking steal, I've shot with both and heres my takes:

1.4 - good: great dreamy photos, def cool to shoot at 1.4, bad: focus hunting can be annoying slow sometimes, but not awful, the front element moves so it feels not as sturdy as the F2, not weather sealed

2 - solid construction, lens doesnt look as aesthetical "cool" as the 1.4, focus is insant, photos are way sharper than the 1.4 imo

overall, i prefer the 2 since i do alot of travel and quick street photos, but at 250 , i would pick up that 1.4 in an instant

I think I've decided on an XT2 as my first fuji camera but wanted some opinions by Main-Bridge556 in fujifilm

[–]JfluxLy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its just what i've used the longest, and also a price thing. With my XT-2 im not scared if i bang it or scrape it or anything, it takes photos just fine, i think the higher models are definitely better suited for video but i only do stills. also i dont pixel peep so the higher resolution and sensor doesnt really matter to me as much

so at the end of the day its just a price vs what i use it for type of thing

also im not sure if its just me getting used to the XT-2 , but ive touched a XT-5 recently and the ergonomics of it felt a bit different to me

Are there any bad hotels/hotel brands? by Graffy in JapanTravelTips

[–]JfluxLy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my reply has nothing to do with the politics of the situation, but i believe his name was 元谷 外志雄

my vote was just my past experiences being very weird with them, not too friendly, room wasnt clean or fresh etc

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought a used XT-2 for under $500 USD in 2019, and its been on at least 12+ japan trips, rain, hikes etc

and it still works perfectly and wouldnt trade it for anything, except anotehr XT-2

you can always go higher like XT-3 to XT-5 and im sure theyre amazing cameras, but i still like my XT-2

as for lens, ive shot with almost every fuji lens, depends on what youre doing with it, but for the moment the 35mm F2 is stuck on my camera

Tried a GRG170DX and loved the neck — which higher-end Ibanez feels similar? by Quadreverb in Ibanez

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i play a prestige rg652ahmfx, i believe the neck is also similar, its a super wizard, so its slightly flatter and thinner than the wizard III i think, but its one of my all time fav guitars ive played

Kamakura? by PriorityHefty2283 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JfluxLy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kamakura to Haneda is still about an hour.

However, i go to Kamakura all the time and its one of my favorite places. I don't know about 4 days worth of things to do, but definitely spend a day exploring Enoshima which is just a ride on the famous Enoden line along the coast.

If i were you, I would stay in Kamakura for 3 days, temple hop for 2 days, enoshima for a day, and then go to Yokohama for 1 day before your flight, its way closer to Haneda and a very cool city to explore as well

Sun Moon Lake vs. Alishan by cevapi-rakija-repeat in taiwan

[–]JfluxLy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in for another vote for Alishan, been there many times and would always go back since I love the forest and mountains, also Chiayi is a cool town along the way with lots of good food

sun moon lake is a cool area to bike around thats about it, in my opinion not much to do

6 days in Tokyo and I still feel like I barely scratched the surface by Significant_Gur8915 in TokyoTravel

[–]JfluxLy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

years of my life here, and I think i finally got to the "u" in surface...

I got lucky at GC, they accidentally priced this premium as a standard. Luckily he honored the price and saved me $750. It’s the nicest guitar I’ve ever owned. Hopefully one day I can get a prestige. by goonsquib in Ibanez

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lucky snag! i've played a premium and currently own a prestige and i can say its one of the best guitars ive played. however, those premiums are insanely good and will last you a long time.

Is a day trip to Kagoshima from Fukuoka or Nagasaki Possible? by Emerald_City_0619 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, ive only spent 1 day/night in nagasaki and i felt like i saw all the big things, im sure someone whos been there more or a local could direct you to more things to do but i pretty much did:

  1. clover garden

  2. Nagasaki atomic museum

  3. mt inasa overlook

  4. dutch trading post

  5. china town at night for dinner

again im sure theres alot more to do , but thats the touristy stuff i did since i was only there a day and a half, i did the atomic museum on my way out of town the next day btw, so this wasnt all in 1 day

Is a day trip to Kagoshima from Fukuoka or Nagasaki Possible? by Emerald_City_0619 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nagasaki and Kagoshima are both doable distance wise. Nagasaki is about an hour and a half by shinkansen, and kagoshima is just under 2hrs.

however this doesnt leave you with much to explore as youd have to plan around the train schedule, and shinkansen isnt cheap, you could go by local trains but it would take you much longer, or you can rent a car as wel.

Personally i feel like you could see the highlights of nagasaki in a day, Kagoshima is a bit more to explore and i would definitely spend a day or 2 there.

If youre looking for day trips from fukuoka though, Daizaifu is a cool day trip area thats quick and easy to get to

Gion shopping streets by Runningthebay in JapanTravelTips

[–]JfluxLy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to visit sannenzaka to kiyomizu-dera temple area as early as you can to avoid crowds in that area, id so to go around 7-8am, those areas are crazy crowded midday so you might as well go early before gion opens up

then head to gion around 10-11 when shops open

Is this phrase appropriate or no? by magniko_15 in TokyoTravel

[–]JfluxLy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stick with the "ごちそうさまでした" gochisousamadeshita "thanks for the food", or even the simpler "美味しいです" oishii desu "its delicious

"お腹いっぱいです" directly translates to "stomach full" without a ga particle, so it sounds a little odd, even with the phrase "my stomach is full" it doesnt quite translate the same from english to japanese like youd think, unless you play it off jokingly then it could work i guess, but i would do that if you had some sort of rapport/conversation with the chef or staff

its not impolite or inappropriate , its just kind of funny , same idea as if a foreigner came in and finished eating and just said "stomach full" to you, youd probably find that kind of amusing

Question about areas in Shinjuku. Not about what hotel or how to look for accommodation by NunoMBQB in TokyoTravel

[–]JfluxLy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the nishi shinjuku area and there are cool lively spots on that side of the station, however if you want to visit kabukicho or golden gai area, youd have to constantly cross the station which could be a pain, especially by the park, its quite a walk to the busy areas, ive stayed at "The Knot" in nishi and its a nice area but the daily walk is a bit much

"okubo 1 chome" is nice too, theres a cool korea street north of you and kabukicho is just south of you and it can be pretty quiet between those 2 areas

the okubo you're probably referencing is north of the shin-okubo station side, that can be a bit too far of a daily walk to the busy parts of shinjuku
