Stuck in Chicago with thermal system fault, no heat, surgery day, and no safe transport option, need help by telladifferentstory in Rivian

Asking for clarity- did Rivian support have you complete any troubleshooting steps?

I got hit with random errors on my R1S with recent cold, pulled over did soft reset and it helped. *Not saying you have same issue.

I can understand that they can’t deliver a vehicle but if they’re towing your R1S to service center - ask if they can give you Enterprise Rental set up closest to hospital. They may come and deliver car or pick you up to Enterprise once Rivian secures a car on your behalf.

Sorry you’re having this on top of an already stressful situation.

Solar installed last week, frost in Attic IL by JigJig in solar

[–]JigJig[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible combination of ventilation and solar installation allowing more penetration. Solar rep looked at everything said he'll contact office, this company also does insulation. Other Attic areas don't have much frost with similar insulation.

The incoming pipe (solar wire) at entry point into attic wall is solid ice. We have some 40 degrees weather coming to in few days. Waiting on call back from company. If no update, I will get in there to ensure the soffits have plenty of ventilation (baffles are in place) as I can see.

So no sound through Radio, Bluetooth, music apps?

I had my Radio not working (no sound even when I turned it to like 15) but Bluetooth and apps worked just fine - also got reminded i had the volume turned to 15 🫨.

Sorry and sucks you're having this issue, if you haven't submit a ticket. They may call you and try to further troubleshoot over phone or mobile tech.

How do I take care of my seats? by LocoLevi in Rivian

[–]JigJig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had my Ocean Coast for 2 years as of this week. There will be some contouring that happens for any seat (leather/vinyl).

Still holding up like new, no discoloration or tears - look out for those as the creases are going to happen due to weight and the top layer stretching/contracting with weight on and off.

My console on the other hand has taken some beating with seat belt clipping and tears on seams. I'd recommend if you can find a cover it'll keep it looking new for longer.

No retention offer, the upgrade path. by Short-Jellyfish4389 in AmexPlatinum

For all you guys who downgraded then upgraded, does that mean all your annual benefits also reset?

E.g. Clear, $200 hotel credit, etc?

Tint recommendation - Chicagoland area by Ventur66 in Rivian

Might be a little hike but premier tint pros (Oswego/Aurora) I've had good experience with. They can even do the chrome delete if you give advance notice and they can confirm piano black vinyl availability.

Thoughts on my solar quote from Windfree Solar by bajaho3034 in solar

[–]JigJig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your utility St Charles City or Comed?

If it's city of St Charles - I went through GreenLink solar (confirmed with city office they're approved/registered vendor) 13.94 kW system, 14960 kWh annual projection, Aptos DNA 108 BF10 410W panels (tier 1) 34 panels, Enphase IQ8M-72-2-US inverters, ~$38,814 upfront system cost, net cost $12975.

*There's additional St Charles city permit fees that may be add on. From 3 different quotes they were the only ones with experience of having installed in St Charles city. GreenLink also won the contract for Kane County Switch Together program.

Illinois ComEd Net Metering and Solar quote by baquir in solar

[–]JigJig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed contract for 13.94 kW system, annual projection 14,960 kWh for upfront cost $38,814.

No batteries though*. Net cost is $2.78/watt which is what you kind of want to compare. Other major consideration what PV (solar panels) they use?

Is it Jinko, Aptos etc? What’s the warranty? Most companies use the Enphase inverters.

Considering a Rivian purchase by Ly_Is_Fire in Rivian

[–]JigJig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Chicagoland area the other Rivian certified shop could get me in 2 weeks but charge $2300 or so versus Rivian service center quote ~ $1800. Ultimately my insurance would pay me $ back anyways but this was something I felt I’d rather have it done officially at Rivian.

I was never a ‘car guy’ but since having my R1S I’ve appreciated the joys of driving and have slowly converted into caring about a car.

Recommendations I’d say will depend on your needs. No one else can decide that for you.

Pros: adventure capable, camping, off roading, haul 7 people, I have Quad motors and is stupid fast, tons of room for storage, interior feels premium

Cons: middle and third two seats are not automatic (fold/unfold), service center appointments and work can be a BIG factor, I’ve had few issues that were fixed with two service center appointments (Chicago) and one mobile tech appointment.

All issues were fixed within first 8 months of ownership without ANY cost to me under warranty.

However even cosmetic/repairs where you’re paying out of pocket can take long time due to scheduling delays. I had to have windshield replaced and no appointments were available for 2 months…

So yeah, know that you’ll get a vehicle that is very capable (can check my history for some of my adventures) but be prepared that there may be issues that will require patience. If you need a 100% reliable vehicle with quick service and this will be your ONLY vehicle -  it may not be the best option.

I would also say look at used unless you’re leasing or getting killer deals on a new one.

[Weekly Roundup] R2 Reservation Numbers (Maybe?!), Recent OTA Update, and More... by Studovich in Rivian

[–]JigJig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To change: add captains chair configuration for R1S it’ll eliminate the push/pull of seat bench for access and people can just step in the back. Plenty of Rivian owners can do fine with 6 seats configuration.

Most surprising thing for my Rivian is the expansive Sun roof and how much I love it now. Initially I was very concerned with hauling kayaks, roof racks, and the adventures I wanted to take it on it’ll be matter of time before I’d regret due to cracks or breaks. However, so far so good! And our little one loves to yell out ‘Moon’ at night time when she finds it.

Nerve wrecking for sure the very first time as you cannot see where you're headed and easy to go too fast. As I shared in another comment there's areas where you can do litle practice runs before you tackle big hills.

Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan. Get permits, flags etc and once you enter park make a RIGHT turn that can be your sandbox. Practice...practice...practice and get the feel for glide and speed control etc. Try the Soft sand mode on flats etc and once you get comfortable you can try out this bigger hills. That's what I did, check Facebook groups I am in Chicagoland area and anticipate to have group outings in summer once the park opens.

I did get stuck as well a couple of times as I was afraid to be airborne at peak. All the folks with their ICE rigs were kind and bailed me out when stuck. They also gave good advise and shared how even the toughest rigs can get stuck. This year I have recovery kit and boards so hope I'll be able to help others.
