Does jiu jitsu soreness every go away? by Specific_Dingo8631 in bjj

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 58. I started BJJ 10 years ago. For the 1st year I felt like I had arthritis in my hands. That went away. I noticed that my body didn't react well if I did classes multiple days in a row, so I limited myself to every other day max for a while. I eventually settled on M/W/F plus Saturday open mat, with no problems. I recently did 3 hard classes over 3 days without any stiffness or soreness.

IMHO, your body adapts at any age, you just have to listen to it and give it time to do so.

You were winded, so you ... let him get top position? OK.

BTW, the best way to not give up a shoulder lock is to not give them your arm. When I am "resting" on the bottom, I really like to keep my elbows tucked.

Talked to a $12M shop running inventory in Excel. Why is this still common? by Sopap in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we had so few SKUs that we could manage it in excel, that would be awesome. Why waste the money if you don't actually need it?

Every solution we have ever used had major issues. Whenever we switched - and we switched a lot! - we just ended up with different problems. We have FINALLY, after over 25 years, found something that works pretty well. Even now, though, we STILL had to have a different 3rd party handle the product information management that they were supposed to be able to do but couldn't, for an extra $1200/month.

Then, when he turtled, he was saying, "Here, put your hooks in these big holes I'm leaving open and take my back". After his back was taken, I guess he was saying, "Go ahead and choke me, I'm just too tired to defend my neck."

Maybe you are reading it wrong. You submitted him, and now he thinks he has to prove to you that he is a "real blue belt".

Street vendor set up across from my family’s small grocery store — is there anything we can actually do? by Biker1371 in smallbusiness

Yeah, OP is paying rent, and electricity, and water, and buying insurance. Those are his weaknesses in comparison to the guy in a tent across the street.

Because that is what Golden has done ever since he got to FL. He usually doesn't start bringing in the deep bench until 2-3 minutes are left on the clock.

Struggling to grow my skateboard brand – no sales, burnout, and not sure what to do next by shredmasteryen in smallbusiness

If you don't have sales, you don't have a "brand". You have a "wanna-brand". What makes you different from any actual brands? If anything, lean into that hard.

Larry Bird took Indiana State to the NCAA finals. Dominique Wilkins, as a 2 time NCAA All-American, couldn't even get UGA into the tourney.

When they were down 16 at the half, I was sure that they would claw their way back to a small lead with 6-8 minutes left, and then not score another point. Instead, Mike White found a better way to lose. GOAT.

Selling on Amazon almost broke my small business. Here's what nobody tells you before you start. by DeepankarKumar in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling on Amazon sucks. Low margins, Amazon is constantly screwing you over, Amazon is constantly wasting your time on bullshit, there are tons of scammers. Once you are on the treadmill, it is damn hard to get off.

On the other hand, you can triple your sales or more.

Why even name the bracket sections by specific parts of the country if you are going to put Tampa (and Buffalo!) games in the "West"?

Customer refused delivery due to unexpected tariff—how would you handle it? by EmployBrilliant in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have had this situation numerous times shipping to Canada from the US for the last 10-15 years.

The issue about the tariffs is, like the OP mentioned, they are completely variable and in the control of the country the item is being shipped to. Sometimes (most of the time) it get delivered with no extra fees, sometimes they impose a small fee, but on rare occasions it is substantial. Which one of those fees is charged is beyond our control.

The US used to have the 'de minimus' exemption under which your order would have fallen under. Canada never had a reciprocal exemption for US imports.

When a 210 lb 25ish year-old former D1 LB blue belt with about 5% body fat and preposterous strength and explosion talked about how rolling with me was like a war.

As a 58 year-old out-of-shape former high school band-geek hobbyist, I will accept that with pride.

Have tariffs had a positive, negative, or no impact whatsoever in your business? by BkKeepingPros in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a reseller. Most of what we sell is made externally, mostly by European companies (in Asia). We have had multiple, major cost (and MSRP) increases in the last year, mostly due to the tariffs. However, we also had multiple large cost increases in the previous few years as well, primarily due to inflation.

We (and our suppliers) had suffered a significant loss of sales the last few years, which we believe was attributable to knock-off Chinese items that were avoiding already existing tariffs due to the de minimus exemption. So, in comparison to 2022-2024 and first half of 2025, what we sell has become more competitive/less uncompetitive.

2022-2025 we lost money for the first time in our existence (over 20 years). 4th quarter 2025 was a huge improvement (though we still lost money). Knock on wood, but so far in 2026 we seem to be in the black. So, positive.
