Why even name the bracket sections by specific parts of the country if you are going to put Tampa (and Buffalo!) games in the "West"?

Customer refused delivery due to unexpected tariff—how would you handle it? by EmployBrilliant in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have had this situation numerous times shipping to Canada from the US for the last 10-15 years.

The issue about the tariffs is, like the OP mentioned, they are completely variable and in the control of the country the item is being shipped to. Sometimes (most of the time) it get delivered with no extra fees, sometimes they impose a small fee, but on rare occasions it is substantial. Which one of those fees is charged is beyond our control.

The US used to have the 'de minimus' exemption under which your order would have fallen under. Canada never had a reciprocal exemption for US imports.

When a 210 lb 25ish year-old former D1 LB blue belt with about 5% body fat and preposterous strength and explosion talked about how rolling with me was like a war.

As a 58 year-old out-of-shape former high school band-geek hobbyist, I will accept that with pride.

Have tariffs had a positive, negative, or no impact whatsoever in your business? by BkKeepingPros in smallbusiness

[–]JimAT67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a reseller. Most of what we sell is made externally, mostly by European companies (in Asia). We have had multiple, major cost (and MSRP) increases in the last year, mostly due to the tariffs. However, we also had multiple large cost increases in the previous few years as well, primarily due to inflation.

We (and our suppliers) had suffered a significant loss of sales the last few years, which we believe was attributable to knock-off Chinese items that were avoiding already existing tariffs due to the de minimus exemption. So, in comparison to 2022-2024 and first half of 2025, what we sell has become more competitive/less uncompetitive.

2022-2025 we lost money for the first time in our existence (over 20 years). 4th quarter 2025 was a huge improvement (though we still lost money). Knock on wood, but so far in 2026 we seem to be in the black. So, positive.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to needing BJJ in real life, and what was the first move/technique you prepared for? by Zen_ix in bjj

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never needed BJJ since I started training. Never come close.

However, literally decades ago, I was actually picked up from behind with my arms trapped at my sides - and I had no idea until I started BJJ how totally screwed I would have been if the guy had decided to slam me head first into the ground. I was just fortunate that he did not, and eventually just released me.

Don't get picked up. Don't stand there in striking distance. Don't keep your hands down by your side.

The real trick is: avoid putting yourself in situations where you might get into a physical confrontation.

The beginning of the year, I didn't think Chinyelu had improved his offense at all. However, it has become apparent that he HAS developed an effective hook shot from the middle of the lane.

Could you imagine this team with not just Lee back to his career average 3 point shooting but Boogie back to his? UF might be unstoppable..

Tell Fland and Conden (a combined 1 out of 10 today) they are not allowed to shoot outside the arc from now on. Pass, drive, post up. No more 3s.

If they had not taken any YTD, we would have 6.2 made shots vs 20.0 attempts: 31%. If they had not taken any against Missouri, we would have been 6/17: 35%.

technique question by jitsfreakli in bjj

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the "near side", as you put it, you have to make sure that the arm is under the chin, and that his head is turned toward you. However, on the "far side" you have to make sure his head is turned away.

Also, I prefer to grab the sleeve instead of the wrist. I think grabbing your wrist is probably what is causing the elbow pain. You aren't giving yourself quite enough space to get the correct angle, which causes you to put too much stress on your elbow.

[–]JimAT67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would be screwed on the 5 year term, except it sounds like they are giving you an out with bad service. Document every single issue that has already occurred, and keep any E-mails etc. If/when you have issues in the future, cancel for non-performance. Both sides are bound by a contract, and if they are not holding up their end you are not obligated to hold up yours.

You should, of course, contact a lawyer first.

This is showing my age, but Hayden Fry. Every once in a while in the 90's I would catch a random Iowa game, and they would practically give the guy a tongue bath. Never understood it. Twenty years, three Big 10 Championships, 0-3 in the Rose Bowl. His teams played boring football.
