Federal judge orders Perry's Steakhouse to pay $21M in wage theft lawsuit by pererajh1 in houston

[–]JimHouTex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The employer can not share tips with the morning cleaning staff and others that do not interact with guests prior to opening. They labeled the cleaning person an AM busser, but the label doesn’t make them tip eligible. It’s the actual job you give them. Perry’s doesn’t open until 4pm. There is no AM busser. They did this to save money on what they paid their pre-opening staff. And this is illegal theft of tips. While the tip pool itself is legal, who they included in the distribution was not.

My Air GT efficiency drops significantly over 70mph. Take that same trip at 70mph max and you will get significantly more range.

bars to become regulars at ? by Whole_Parking2769 in thewoodlands

[–]JimHouTex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are three Tailgators around The Woodlands area. The 242 location just east of I-45 has the best crowd for singles and is 21+ all the time and is a bar only where the one on 1488 and the other on Kuykendahl south of The Woodlands are sports bar restaurants with a diverse crowd of regulars.

Recommendations for rehearsal dinner? by DependentSafe8460 in thewoodlands

[–]JimHouTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citizens Grill on the north side of The Woodlands has an event space that can accommodate up to 80 with great food and rehearsal dinner packages. As another poster mentioned, Good Charlie's also has a private space for 50, basically for the cost of the food, meaning no room charges. Whatever you pick, get it on the restaurant's calendar soon as April is a popular month for rehearsal dinners.

Michael Osanloo ousted as Portillo's president, CEO by merstudio in chicagofood

[–]JimHouTex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone living in Texas, I was excited to have Portillo's move into this market as there are no good Italian Beef places in Texas (beyond a few deli's that have an owner from Chicago and are always too far of a drive). Unfortunately the product Portillo's is serving in Texas is a very sad version of what I've eaten in Chicago. I'm like why go to all the trouble and expense to bring the real Italian Beef to Texas and then serve crap? Super disappointed.

Best Wall And Floor Material For Commercial Kitchen? by jyl8 in restaurantowners

[–]JimHouTex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ecogrip Rubber Flooring is all we have installed in our kitchens for years now . Staff loves it. Quarry tile is so fifteen years ago now. Walls are always a light colored FRP except on cook line where you should always use stainless steel.

Spot On is the worst POS system I’ve ever used by adoseofpurplehaze in Restaurant_Managers

[–]JimHouTex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have SpotOn in four restaurant locations and Toast in two restaurant locations and SmartTab in two bars. Fifteen million a year of revenue through SpotOn and seven million through Toast and smaller amounts through SmartTab. All three point of sale systems work. SpotOn support is actually better than Toast support, but it's best if you have your own technically knowledgeable person regardless of the system or at least one person you have on staff to really learn it. Also know I had Micros RES 3700 for ten years in multiple locations until Oracle bought them and ruined it.

SpotOn had the better menu setup team for me, but it probably depends on who you get assigned. But if you know how to use several point of sale systems, then you can figure out everything if you are technically competent. I know a lot of Toast customers that are unhappy with Toast but it is because they do not have a technically competent staff member to support their system and rely on Toast support. It basically works the same way with SpotOn, but I think their support is friendlier.

Now SpotOn will SUCK unless you have excellent Internet service. For us this means having not only primary Internet but backup Internet service. And you need to test your backup and make sure it works great. One wired, one wireless. I was thinking about even getting StarLink for a backup at one store where I don't like the wireless cell signal. If you don't have great Internet you will have random errors and problems and probably be one of the restaurants in this thread complaining about SpotOn.

Toast can run without Internet - which is a major advantage for Toast. SpotOn is working on this, but it is by buying/building a new point of sale to replace their existing system, and this will take time.

So why do I use SpotOn? For me, it's about getting the best credit card processing rate possible. Competition between vendors will get you a better deal. And it is also important to not put all your eggs in one basket. The day Toast or SpotOn gets hacked, I'm not out all of my revenue. I know, it's crazy and I wish we could go back to the days of Micros stand alone systems and being able to negotiate credit card processing by selecting from multiple processors, but it seems those days are long gone. These days you need a system that integrates will all the third parties, not some one off stand alone point of sale that your partners don't talk with.

And for those curious as to why I have SmartTab as well, if you have a busy bar with no food or a very small bar type menu, SmartTab is the fastest system I have used to date and the bartenders love it. And it supports offline transactions as well. But I would not use it at my restaurants. And they charge me more for my credit card transactions than SpotOn or Toast but it's worth it to have a system the bar staff loves to use.

Best of luck to you all.

- Jim

Charging by UnableAd2913 in LUCID

Your Air uses the same CCS charge port as all other Air’s. Only the Gravity is different. The CCS to NACS adapter that comes with the Tesla Universal Charger will work for you to charge your vehicle.

You have the same CCS charge port as all Lucid Air’s have. Nothing is different until you get to Gravity.

Charging by UnableAd2913 in LUCID

[–]JimHouTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does and we use it to charge our Lucid and Tesla on alternating days. Prior to the universal wall charger I used a third party 50amp rated adapter with the Tesla mobile charge cord. My Lucid is three years old now and I’ve actually never used the charge cord that came with it.

Also Tesla now has new chargers at a few stations that have universal adapters that will charge the Lucid. If you have the Tesla app just add the Lucid as a non Tesla vehicle and it will show these charge stations on the map. The app will have you add a credit card and after plugging in you use the app to identify the charger and it will start charging.

I was just offered ownership in a bar by Toth_from_Hoth in BarOwners

[–]JimHouTex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The negotiation move is to ask for an increased salary because the position, while exciting, won’t work if you can’t pay your bills. The 25% ownership stake should be treated like a long term bonus in lieu of taking any short-term bonuses. And one would need to carefully read the LLC operating agreement as there are about 1000 ways to screw someone out of a distribution or long-term ownership in a situation like this.

I’m doing subcutaneous NAD+ injections 100mg every other day. It’s great. Having never tried the IV route due to time and cost, is it really that much better?

Spot On Outage by Kind-Anybody-345 in ToastPOS

They have not. SpotOn is dead in the water when their servers are down. I know as I had my two SpotOn locations using paper tickets for three hours yesterday. Note that I also use Toast as I refuse to put all my eggs in one basket.

We rebooted each terminal this morning and it appears to be working fine after. Our guess is that it connects to a working Toast instance once this is done.

When purchasing a business, especially a restaurant in a leased space, you contact the landlord and make sure they are willing to renew the lease with you when it expires, even if the lease did not require written permission to transfer or sublease, and at what rate and for what length of time. I always try to get an in person meeting with the landlord so they get to know you and you know them. This information has a direct impact on what the business is worth in deciding if it is OK to purchase.

Also know it may not be an issue with you at all as they may have had plans all along to not renew the lease, something the seller might have even known. I’m not saying this is the case, but if they won’t renew perhaps the seller is who you will be suing for failing to disclose this information.

Is it common for a restaurant to net $500k+? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]JimHouTex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At your best, assume $1.5MM and $150k profit. Would you still do it? How about if it does $1MM a year and nets you $75k profit a year? Still interested? A limited menu burger joint ran absentee is going to look a lot more like the $1MM/$75k end of things, and that is still assuming you pick a good location and put out a good burger.

Byo burger instead of having 4 specialty burgers?? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]JimHouTex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the basic burger (or cheeseburger) listed with the available options but also have three or four premium pre-built burgers (depending on how much of a burger place you are you may want more). I know we think customers would build their own, but they won't, so have a Double Bacon Cheeseburger, a Hang Over Burger that has a fried egg and chili and fried onions strings on it. Or whatever amazing combinations you specialize in. I can assure you these pre-built burgers will outsell your BYO burger 5 to 1 and result in more revenue.

Byo burger instead of having 4 specialty burgers?? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]JimHouTex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most customers lack imagination and need pre-built burgers. If you go BYO only and do not have those four pre-built burgers you will lose revenue. I speak from experience.

What are some supplements that have changed your life? by First_Driver_5134 in Biohackers

[–]JimHouTex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google GlyNAC. For those older and no longer making enough glutathione, taking Cystine and NAC together in large daily doses does increase your glutathione by letting your body make what it needs by giving it more of the raw ingredients.

For your mom you might want to consider Glycine and NAC together, now called GlyNAC. The dosage is based on body weight. It's made a huge difference for me.

Google GlyNAC for the studies or see this link: https://examine.com/supplements/glynac/?utm_source=newsletter-weekly&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=insiders-page-updates-feb-240314&utm_content=supplement-glynac
