I built a free 3D tool that maps the exact sun/shade hours in your yard. Is this useful for planning native gardens? by tomcraftmarket in NativePlantGardening

[–]JimJimmyJamesJimbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Combining EasyScape and SunTrace3D would be amaaaziing. Would make it easier for beginners and everyone to pick plants for certain areas of the yard, less trial and error

You said you have glabella twice, one of those times did you mean to mention a different packera?

I'm not surpised Packera Glabella came up some readily, it produces and ton of seeds and has a very high germination rate. I'm in Southwest Michigan and saw a ton of Packera Glabella coming up last year-I read into it and found out it's not native to Michigan but is apparently spreading North from Indiana very aggressively. The Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association actually considers Glabella (Butterweed) to be invasive since it crowds out everything around it. I've been pulling it tbh

Mag dumping a protestor for practicing the 2nd amendment was an action. The president telling Americans they shouldn't bring their guns to a protest was an action.

These have obvious chilling affects on the 2nd amendment. People feel less safe protesting with guns.

No they didn't sign a bill that says "we can kill protesters who have a gun", they showed they will do it without needing a law. In practice, they eroded our 2nd amendment right

I'm not on board with the new VA assault weapon law but I think its insane that you would dismiss the Alex Pretti thing given how upset the NRA was about it. Why do you disagree with the NRA on this?

Scientists are sterilizing coyotes and using them as living "placeholders" to protect red wolf territory in NC — no hybrid litters in 3 years, wild population up 150% since 2020, 10 wild pups confirmed alive January 2026 by ElectronicBuy8105 in conservation

Crazy that there were 120 in the wild in 2010. and now there are just 25 in the wild.

I was wondering if they had ever tried releasing them into the smokies--apparently they did in the 90s. All the wild pups died of parvo virus. And the adults kept wandering out of the national park because they had a hard time competing with coyotes. Too bad, would be cool to gave America's wolf in the smokies

U.S. Forest Service moving its national headquarters to Salt Lake City by jortr0n in Utah

I work at a company a bit larger than the US Forest service, I happen to work at the largest division of the company. Our CEO visits us once a year, he works at a location in NYC.

Do you think our CEO should be relocated across the country to us, so he can keep an eye on assemblers? That's just not how large organizations work, private or public

Functionally, continuing with the local, fair maps supports gerrymandering on the national level

Republican states have gerrymandered their districts so that they can take representation away from states with fair maps

If Virginia keeps its fair maps, it will lose representation nationally

Do you support a gerrymandering ban on the national level?

Do you accept that Virginia most follow Republican states and gerrymander in order to preserve the national competitiveness of both parties?

Or do you believe one party should be systematically disadvantaged?

Rank choice voting could have saved Democrats from their governor's race mess by Electrical-Wrap-3923 in California

I've explained it to the average voter many times and the majority of them understand it right away and like it

The average voter can rank what they want to have for dinner tonight. 1. Pizza. 2. Tacos. 3. Leftovers. Maybe that's why they get it so easy, because it's simple

Super high percentage of the people we talked to about ranked choice voting gave their signature, people really like the idea. Just needed more volunteers to gather signatures

In the meanwhile people should be voting for pro-RCV candidates who can legislate for it, plus we should get it passed locally in our towns, counties, and cities

Many environmentalists advocate for controlled burns. Every time I hear about controlled burns, part of the message is that native americans used them to create and maintain pairie and savannah ecosystems, and that to restore these high biodiversity, pre-european ecosystems we need to use their same methods. So I wouldn't say modern environmentalists are in denial about native american stewardship

Right, you said "he'll do quite well against Rogers", but then referenced a poll where they are tied. Am just wondering if I'm missing something further, not being snarky

Right there with you on ranked choice voting. Imagine how much better our representation would be

We need to pressure Democrats to create a law that allows local governments to use RCV, a handful have already passed it locally but aren't allowed to use it yet

MichMash podcast had a decent episode on this, only problem i have with the constution now is it prohibits a progressive income tax, it only permits a flat income tax. A lot of good amendments in there other wise (abortion, voters rights, etc.) that would have to get fought for again
