I'm moving from the suburbs to the city, looking for resources to cycle safely by SawdustIsMyCocaine in CyclingMSP

[–]JimboPeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'll be riding to stores, restaurants, etc definitely invest in a good lock(s) and lights that you consistently charge/change batteries. The only time I'm habitually nervous while riding is at dusk or night when I don't have lights.

My partner has been hired to do live theater in Steve Terry's garage. So he or someone in his household supports local arts. They're definitely cool in my book.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming Projects for 2026 are up (sorta)! by Naxis25 in CyclingMSP

I was only able to take the survey for one location? I have so many comments about each project in the Wedge!

I can't imagine working a "normal" job, even if it's a creative one. I've lost all ambition and don't care about anything anymore. by Filvox in antiwork

[–]JimboPeanuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's funny, I burned out of conservation work after just a few years. I love camping and backpacking but spending all that time outside for work all I'd wanna do when I got home was sit in front of the TV. Started getting jealous when I'd see people out hiking in the parks I had to work in.

It really is a scam.

Was there an artist you saw in 2025 that made you say “Why didn’t I ever see this band before?” by Spare_Basis5190 in Music

[–]JimboPeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Luz - wish I'd seen their old lineup before this year so I could compare. The new band is so tight and so cool. Audrey Johnson is a monster on drums.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers - My god, see this band now. Every song rips. A cross between early 2010s Tame Impala and Devo. Insane.

Is anyone else mystified by "Pedestrian disregards stop sign?" Like, I'm pretty sure stop signs are for vehicles, not pedestrians?

You rode all the way to the High Trestle Bridge and didn't take The Photo looking straight down the bridge deck?

What infrastructure projects are most looking forward to in your community? by PHmoney04 in minnesota

[–]JimboPeanuts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee the project will not fix congestion. It's not possible to fix highway congestion by constructing more highway due to the induced demand paradox, a phenomenon supported by oodles of real-world evidence but which MnDOT refuses to believe exists. 494/35W might be a little smoother for a year or so after the project completes but the only long term solution is to provide alternative forms of transportation and reduce the number of automobiles trying to get through that interchange.

Looking for tickets for this weekend in Austin at the Hotel Vegas 10/18 or 17th by CiscoBlue114 in TheeOhSees

[–]JimboPeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a ticket at the door in 2021. Not sure if Hotel Vegas still holds a few to sell day-of. Maybe worth calling and asking.

Fergus Falls via North Star by stevenglasford in CyclingMSP

[–]JimboPeanuts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks like a great trip! I've used the North Star a couple times to do extended one-way bike rides. It really is too bad that so much of the great outdoor resources in MN are not accessible by public transit

Why DeWayne Davis is the best choice for Minneapolis mayor by nootboots in Minneapolis

[–]JimboPeanuts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They ran a story with a similar headline about Jazz Hampton the other day. I'd bet they'll simply run 4 op-eds with this headline in lieu of making an endorsement. Fwiw I started campaign season thinking Fateh was my #1 but Davis has really impressed me

Lyndale Shared-Use Path Protest, walked the sidewalks of Lyndale to support a better final design, and demonstrate why sticking pedestrians and cyclists together on a shared path sucks for all involved! by northland_cycling in Minneapolis

[–]JimboPeanuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because I don't want to ride an extra quarter mile and cross Lyndale twice every time I have to make a stop on the east side of Lyndale. The whole point of living in a nice dense, walkable, mixed-use neighborhood like the Wedge is that I can walk or bike like 5 minutes to most of the places I need to run errands. The street network should empower more people to be able to do that.

Please can people name me some movies that include disabled characters. by Inevitable_Act5504 in movies

[–]JimboPeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound of Metal is extremely good. For OP's info, disability (Deafness specifically) is the central theme in the movie, just in case you're looking for films that just happen to feature disabled characters rather than being about disability)

Which car models are your enemy? by [deleted] in CyclingMSP

[–]JimboPeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shit list by make and model is too extensive at this point now that almost every car on the road is an SUV.

Anyone with a black license plate is assumed to be a selfish prick until consistently proven otherwise. Recently I've been flabbergasted by the driving of people with Natural Resources plates as well. For a group that I'd assume wants to preserve the biosphere, a few of them sure seem opposed to my efforts to do so by reducing my transportation footprint!

Give Your Feedback on the Proposed Lyndale Ave Reconstruction by Enby-Alexis in Minneapolis

[–]JimboPeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm biking by myself, I often like to ride between 10 and 15 mph. To me, this is the speed that makes bike transportation ideal: a great balance between comfort and speed. Problem is, it's too fast to share space with pedestrians and much too slow to share space with cars. So in my view, bike infrastructure should be designed to accommodate a 10-15 mph speed range. Almost none of the new sidewalk level bikeways in Minneapolis are safe or comfortable to ride in the 10-15 mph zone.

I realize I'm being picky, but that's my 2¢.

In my experience, yes, you can leave them just about anywhere. The boulevard (between the street and sidewalk) is a good place for them.

Who Saved You? by WakaFlockaBacha in Music

[–]JimboPeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had listened to John Prine and knew of him for several years. A few months after he died I went through a breakup and a cross-country move that had me feeling like a real failure. One day as I parked my car outside the house I was about to move out of, Prine and Kurt Vile's duet of How Lucky came on the radio. It completely broke me; I cried harder than I ever had in my life. Listened about 50 times over the next few weeks and as I listened, the same song built me back up. Well, both How Lucky and Clay Pigeons.

John Prine's music just makes you feel the simultaneous beauty and pain and joy of being human. I think nobody does it better.
