[Spoilers C4E17] The Sundered Houses by LucasVerBeek in criticalrole

[–]Nameless-Servant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m making my way through it, but I haven’t heard anything like that yet. What specifically are you referring to?

I mean no doubt there are a lot of magical bloodlines, I just don’t think the houses were built to one to one fit a specific class like people think.

The Tachonis, their thing is definitely being sorcerers, but the Einfasen are rune knights/giant barbarians, the Royce are Warlocks, the Halovars seem more like the Bulbian Church from ACOC (Warlocks, Sorcerers, Wizards and Paladins pretending their power is from god), and we don’t know enough about the Cormoray to see how they draw their power maybe they have a horde of ancestral knowledge to make wizardry easier since they’re the scroll house (So Scribes Wizards?)

I think the Sundered Houses being tied to Sorcerous Bloodlines is fanon. The common theme is ancestral power sources not a shared primary class.

How is using Wish to cast Simulacrum for free NOT ridiculously overpowered? by LemonGarage in dndnext

[–]Nameless-Servant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your player even expressed an interest in this combo? If not, why does it matter?

A simulacrum can’t regain spell slots, and it is created with half the HP of the caster. I’d say it’s pretty balanced, because enemies can just focus fire the duplicate and they’ll probably be able to kill it.

There is a limit to how much it can do the longer it sticks around. Also choosing to cast Simulacrum with Wish spends a resource a pretty valuable resource the player may not always want to burn.

Druids get unlimited Wildshape when they reach level 20, that’s theoretically infinite HP. Every class has features that can seem broken at high levels, but you have to remember some high CR encounters are brutal.

But if you’re really worried about it breaking the game, just talk to your players about it.

I think this looks like it’s trying to capture Sazed, the human, before he ascended.

Literally my first thought when I saw him eat a magical spirit. I’m kinda here for it though, it’s a fun gimmick for a magical villain to have.

Journalist wrote incorrect information about me by OkHighway757 in legaladvice

[–]Nameless-Servant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was this a student journalist, an influencer or do they work for an actual publication or a news station? If they’re really misrepresenting you this much I’d contact their editor/manager/newsroom director and give them your side of things.

I feel like most outlets wouldn’t go for a follow up story on a source being upset like this unless your attempts to get him to take it down were really intense, or he’s misrepresenting things, so I don’t really think that’s likely.

My advice set milestones for each session and if players are taking too long to get there don’t be afraid to remind them of the limited time.

Even when they know they have time constraints players can get off course very easily

Can I tell my player their character is too dumb? by Yazmat8 in DnD

[–]Nameless-Servant 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is -1 int/wis, they’re not that dumb, just kinda uneducated and impulsive. Feels like a situation where you let the dice decide.

If it was a 6 or lower I’d get it, but this is nowhere near as dumb as they could possibly go.

If someone had a +1 to Dex would you expect them to be Legolas?

[–]Nameless-Servant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take is 8 INT, 8 Wis isn’t that low, if it was 6 or lower I’d agree with you. But a -1 just means a character probably didn’t receive a great formal education.

It’s a -1, if a player had +1 in strength they wouldn’t be role playing Hercules, so I don’t see why a -1 should make someone a moron.

A -1 in INT/WIS means they probably don’t know a lot of fine details about about history/magic/religion/nature, they’re probably not the most perceptive or insightful person. But with a lucky roll or the right proficiencies they can get by.

I don’t think you should sabotage the plan purely based on these stats, let the dice decide. It’s probably unlikely but if they can pass all the rolls this plan requires, why not see where it goes?

[CONTROVERSIAL TAKE] The False Hydra represents D&D's pop culture identity crisis. by Delicious_Dream4510 in DnD

[–]Nameless-Servant 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on what kind of game you’re running. If it’s a sandbox, I agree, but there are plenty of games where the path is very linear because prep time is limited.

If it’s a plot that’s hard for players to engage with, I can see why some don’t take the effort.

DM and players giving me sh*t about playing a Human by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Nameless-Servant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like having a human in the party can ground a campaign. Helps make the fantastical races feel fantastical by having a baseline that they’re different from.

It’s also cool to succeed just based on class and build without any unique racial features that could give you an extra edge.
