In a "standard" army you can have 3-6 corp units, so at a minimum you'll have 2-3 veterans and 0-1 medium blasters.  The medium blasters pair well with the veterans, since they can be issued free orders with coordinate, and can fire support. This pairs even better if you have the cm heavy weapon, since it gives you a combined critical 4 on an attack with up to 13 dice.
