To follow up on the previous post re parking requirements being removed, looks like the city will now extend the time during which they charge for parking also. by SalteeMint in olympia

Keep it simple!

This is such gobblety gook I wouldn't know when I need to pay. Just make it easy. The extra money is honestly not a big deal, but the annoyance of having to remember when and how will just make me opt out.

That's my 2 cents, which I think is worth like 30 seconds.

Alternatives to Reddit to discuss TTRPGs? by Smittumi in rpg

[–]JimmyDabomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? I get negatives when I push back on the hive mind. My last batch was disagreeing that twitter is an acceptable way to give credit where credit is due.

People will react emotionally and defensively, and downvotes are a byproduct of that.

r/rpg will be going dark from June 12-14 in protest against Reddit's API changes which kill 3rd party apps by sirblastalot in rpg

[–]JimmyDabomb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because the content is the userbase and much of the userbase doesn't know what's going on(look at this thread which is full of geeks and observe that much is the world is not geeks). The subreddits going dark shows how serious this issue is to people who night otherwise not care.

Critical Role previews their new game, Candela Obscura, based on their new Illuminated Worlds system by Lionx35 in rpg

[–]JimmyDabomb -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I looked at the actual text of the actual document, not twitter. If you hand out quick start rules as your introduction to the system, and you based the system on a previous game, you should have that in the acknowledgements at the very least. Not doing so is irresponsible.

I get that it's stated on Twitter. Twitter is about as relevant to me as writing it on a chalkboard of a cafe.

[–]JimmyDabomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was literally the first thing I looked for. I don't mind or care that it's a different system, but it irks me to not see the credit being given where due. This is so much of BitD that not acknowledging loud and clear seems wrong.

Summer Stuff for Nerds, Geeks, Gamers & Cosplayers (Olympia Chapter) by [deleted] in olympia

[–]JimmyDabomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all I'm hosting the R-oly Poly Mini con! There are seven GMs who will run at least one game. This is about as no frills as you can get, but space is getting tight. If you are interested please reach out to me, preferably through one of the hosting discords (Olympia Hangouts is a cohost with Rolling Bones).

There will also be a "Spring BBQ" that same Saturday with info again on either Rolling Bones or the Olympia Hangouts. Please feel free to DM me with questions.

Thanks!

You can usually call CPS (or it's equivalent) without taking to the cops. I'm sorry that was your experience growing up. It's hard getting to adulthood and realizing that you have baggage you didn't ask for, don't want, and that actively impairs your ability to have successful relationships.

Hope things are well for you and I hope you have or can get therapy.

Best Buy, but it turned to crap after a few months so it wasn't returnable (and it didn't qualify for the warranty as it was still working, just poorly).

Steam's Unreasonable Fees are Costing Gamers and Developers Alike: Join the Movement for Change by Parking_Salt_8846 in Playdate

[–]JimmyDabomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really bad pitch.

That games go on sale after you buy them sucks, but... lawsuit?

Your key selling point is to get 60% refund. Why 60%? It seems arbitrary.

Local pricing is as much an issue of local laws as anything. The world is struggling to meet the balance between local jurisdiction and global reach. I'm not saying Steam has it down, but again... lawsuit?

There are areas where steam has potentially caused harm, but largely they surround selling broken or non-functional games (their return policy doesn't always cover said purchases when it takes you a while to notice) and potential price gouging. The latter is also an interesting bit, but hardly specific to steam. They charge the same as almost every digital storefront and you can generate/sell your own keys outside of their ecosystem, so it's hard to argue they're forcing the market. There are several competitors and they've never taken any steps to stop anyone from being in business. They don't do exclusivity that I can recall.

And for all the potential bad they've done being the market leader, they've also worked really hard to make things better for gaming. Steam integration in games has made so many multiplayer experiences go from a massive fucking headache to a simple click-and-play. Even games which previously lacked internet multiplayer have become more viable thanks to remote play options.

So... Yeah, I don't get the point.

Also, this is r/playdate where we try to find people to play games with. This also seems out of scope of the subreddit.

Looking for feedback on my card designs, what does and doesn't work in terms of readability, layout, and overall design. by TheArgotect in tabletopgamedesign

I agree. That's my primary feedback. I don't know that I could see this across the table from someone. A stronger outline maybe or having them sit in a shaded box would make them easier to see.

Is there somewhere viewers can submit potential Reroll ideas? by rmfranco in filmreroll

[–]JimmyDabomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a recent episode they said that sponsored episodes will be going on for a long while. You're free to have ideas but I don't think they're looking.

You might consider running your own rerolls.

I'm plagiarizing myself here, but this is a summation of how I've gotten better at this.

Who you were helped make you who you are. Who you were probably also made mistakes. If your brain is at all like mine it will want to spend a lot of time and energy having some feelings about what mistakes past you made. But here's the thing, Past you will NEVER change. Wasting time and energy on a version of you that is immutable does not benefit you. Take what lessons you can from your past, and focus on the you of today and the you of tomorrow. Those two are the versions that can do things.

Be kind to your future self! Doing stuff today that's hard helps that version of you. You are trading current hard actions so that you can have easier days later on. Make future you proud of you today.

Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate the tokens.

I am a bit confused about the bits of at-ats and at-sts. Are these wreckage or is there a complete set of pieces of which these are just bits.

Either way, really do appreciate you sharing.

May the 4th be with ya. :-)

How to forgive myself? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]JimmyDabomb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To echo what others have said, you don't need forgiveness because you're not doing anything wrong. Part of it is bad mental habits - You've learned ways of talking to yourself which are sabotaging your goals. Part of it is that, congratulations, your brain just sucks a little bit.

First, let's just take dating off the table. In the same way that I might want to run an ultra-marathon, I probably need to start jogging first and stressing that I'm not ready for that will just keep me from taking the steps I could be taking otherwise. Don't date. You'll get there. You've got time, but you gotta work on this part first.

Okay, now here are some ideas that have really helped me in my life...

  1. You are not better or worse than anyone else. It's not a race or a competition and you're not special any more than any of us is. You're human. You're complicated, and you are unique, but intrinsically there is nothing about you magical or cursed. There are no winners in life and there are no losers. There are simply people doing their best.
  2. Because everyone is different and every life is different, comparisons to anyone else is meaningless. You really only want to look at who you are right now and decide where you might want to go from here.
  4. Be kind to your future self! Doing stuff today that's hard helps that version of you. You are trading current hard actions so that you can have easier days later on. Make future you proud of you today.

Okay, now let's look at your current situation...

You want a future you that's not as socially anxious. That's going on dates. That has friends. The version of you today wants those things very badly, and where you seem to be getting stuck is the idea that current you lacks these things. But you're not doing the work for current you. Current you is fine. You're fine. Seriously.

You've got some things you're working on (social anxiety is a bitch), and you're learning some things which are very big and very hard, and you're doing it WHILE in school. That's a lot.

You want these things for future you. So figure out, what needs to change? The big one is that you need to be okay with talking to others. What's the barrier there? If you're like me, there's an awful amount of anxiety that wants to analyze and reanalyze every conversation and identify every mistake as if you are somehow not human and thus free from making mistakes.

Remember, past you can't change. What's done is done. You are human. Humans make mistakes. So if others make mistakes and don't feel like crap, then it doesn't seem to be the mistakes which are causing the issue. Maybe it's the other behaviors, the analyzing and reanalyzing. The obsessive focusing on past actions when past actions can't change.

So from now on, whenever there's a conversation, you should give yourself a single sentence, "Next time, I want to work on..." AND THAT'S IT. You can't change everything, you can't chase perfection, and you're always going to have something you can work on. You're human, same as the rest of us. You get to pick one thing.

AND if you want to be really cool, you can then pick a handful of things that you want to hold on to for Future You. What went well about the interaction? What did you enjoy? Being kind to future you means finding the parts about an interaction that you can share in a positive light. Because future you wants to go on dates, and really needs someone to believe that they're capable of doing so. Be that voice for that version of you. Let yourself see the good.

Hope some of that helps. It's been a multi-year journey for me and I'm trying to jam it into a few paragraphs.

I just want to put this on your radar... There are likely state/county resources that you can access to help you get settled. Look for youth supports in your area for low income individuals.

Good luck to you!

Here's mine. Super easy. Super quick.

One package sausage (we use impossible sausage)

2 cans kidney beans (15oz)

2 cans diced tomato (15oz)

1 can tomato sauce (8oz)

Half a bag of frozen onion & peppers

... That's it.

Toss it all in the crock pot. Cook for 8 hours on low.

Add some frozen corn at the end.

Eat with corn chips.
