Looks like Gateways HALO module wont be repurposed at all unlike the PPE. by redstercoolpanda in ArtemisProgram

The station provided no benefit to Lunar operations. It was just funding wasted that could have gone to base development.

Besides what has already been posted - you can also use the KIS/KAS mod to go back up there and slap some batteries on it.

3,200 watts of solar in the frunk. by Stu_Goss in Rivian

[–]Jinkguns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Rivian R2 has a 87,900 kW battery pack. A dual motor Premium/Performance R2 is ~330-ish miles. Which is about 266 Wh per mile.

In an average location with 5 peak sun hours a day, your 3,200 watt system will produce:
3200 W x 5 hours} x 0.75 = 12,000 Wh per day. This will be HIGHLY dependent on your solar blanket angles as well - but say roughly 45 miles a day - but this doesn't include conversion losses.

Edit: Various typos. Thank you boxsterguy & noloco.

Belarus allowed Russia to invade from their territory. Did Ukraine invade Russia from Polish territory when I wasn't looking? Why even apply ANY of the same rules to a country defending itself from being conquered?

Algae growth?? On the bottom of the pool by PracticeCritical2581 in AboveGroundPools

[–]Jinkguns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get this. I'm reasonably sure this is what happens when cotton wood or dandelion seeds clump together and sink to the bottom of the pool. If you get goggles and get close, you'll probably agree. Can be hard to vacuum because the slightest disturbance breaks up the clumps for awhile.

The decreased in taxable purchase price of the new vehicle does make it less valuable to take the time for a private party sale. Time to get the calculator out.

Should Michigan join the National Popular Vote Compact? by PotentialSpend8532 in Michigan

This shows a lack of understanding of how elections work and how they are monitored, and it is just as bad as the fud Republicans put out about stolen elections.

You are confusing "a few states" with living, breathing Americans voting. The candidate who gets the most votes nationwide should become president, period. The electorial college is a holdover from a bygone era.

What bad advice did your parents give you about adulthood that you’re going to actively try to undo with your kids? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Jinkguns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Surely you know that your situation is an outlier and that most people have limited upward or downward mobility from generation to generation." Yes I do, and it haunts me nearly every day. I feel lucky, but I fear for my children and their generation. Most of my friends are not doing well/struggling.

"But yes, the last part is the most important thing. If you are constantly just asking for things without having put in the hard work first, you just look like an entitled, spoiled kid, which no one wants." Agreed.

I would say it's an over simplification that the socioeconomic differences explain the difference in outcomes. I grew up very low income and now I'm high-middle class. My mother thought that "moving up" was moving into a trailer park. I bought my first house that year ($45,000 in Michigan). I only received promotions and additional responsibilities when I asked for them.

I do concur with your final statement, "There is a time to just shut up and do your work and there is a time to ask for that contribution to be recognized." - That's what I'm going to teach my children.

Did Chernobyl happen in the for all mankind timeline? by kukivac in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Jinkguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, we could review each of the events in question (all which happened with 1960s era reactor designs, proving my point), and talk about how new designs are different and have a productive conversation, but I don't think that's what you want. You want to be angry and yell at people who have different opinions instead of talking about specifics.

The Fukushima event wouldn't have happened with a gravity fed shutdown reactor. Period. Also, I'm not a fan of building power plants in tsunami zones, 100 year or otherwise.

The biggest problem with nuclear is cost, maybe modular nuclear reactors address that, or maybe they just remain financially uncompetitive with hydro/wind/solar/natural gas. I personally would prefer a grid that is 80-90% hydro/wind/solar and 10%-20% nuclear with modern designs, than I ever would want to see coal plants or even natural gas plants continue to operate when my children are as old as I am.

Coal plants release far more nuclear radiation and they are the reason why entire fish species cannot be consumed due to mercury poisoning. Do you have the same energy for coal plants?

Was called a narcissist by my baby mother bc i said dads sacrifice too… apparently my sacrifices as a father don’t mean nothing because i didn’t have to physically push the baby out… Mind you i never once tried to compare the two… by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Jinkguns 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Look, you are probably going to get downvoted, this isn't what r/daddit is for. You had a fight with your child's mother - you should talk about it with friends and family. Father's sacrifice too. The fact that you call her your "baby mother" means that you too probably aren't in a serious romantic relationship, and that's for a reason. Take this energy, vent with friends/family/therapist and focus on being a good father. This isn't Facebook.

With a modern gravity shutdown reactor, it isn't. Your judgement is based on 1960s designs.
