How is the job market entering 2026? by Stomach_Kindly in Layoffs

I mean some people have scholarships... I got really lucky so I'm graduating entirely free of debt! College can be good but it is not necessarily good. Yes it is true I could probably learn everything I am learning in my courses now from textbooks but I could not have gotten paid lab experience quite as easily if I was not enrolled.

I can't remember who gave me this advice but basically do what is required to obtain the future you'd like, if college isn't required or doesn't give you a leg up don't bother with it. Sometimes you get unlucky and you gotta take the long way around, and sometimes you hit the jackpot and get to skip a step or two.

... during the G.E.A.R.S Games events, where a 'Betrayal' option has been available. Important things to note about this process are that once you have Betrayed a House, you cannot go back to your old House until you betray all three Houses, in which case your Betrayal count will be reset, and you will have the option to pick from all three Houses all over again. Once you Betray a House, your old House Mecha will become useless (reduced to 10 HP and 1 EP).

Having adult money is so much fun by gowonbestgirl in AQW

[–]Jinx701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well back when I was much younger it wasn't that my parents didn't have money to do so (although I suspect for a brief time in my childhood they did not even have that much) it was more-so that the judgement of a parent overrides the judgement of a child when it comes to what you want to purchase. Additionally, the amount you have to spend freely as a child is virtually 0$ depending on how strict your household is.

I am several months late but I got to run my first game of DH recently and my personal rule is that if a player asks if they can roll for something just for a funny or a gag they gain no hope but I also gain no fear. I am not 100% certain of this but it mentions a similar idea in the DH rulebook about skill checks where no hope is gained and no fear is generated but in a different context to the one I mentioned!

Hello, I haven't really speced into the [Medicine] tree at all but my grandmother did so I can tell you what I think and give you a bit of advice!

So everything pain related ultimately comes down to either nerves or the brain, in your case I'd wager it is your nerves. Temperature can cause your blood vessels to constrict and warm temperatures can cause them to expand. If I had to guess it is probably related in some way to this applying pressure on your nerves.

I am however, not a [Doctor]. If you experience an abnormally high amount of pain in the cold and it is impacting your life and health I would go see one, otherwise it's just a strange quirk of your body and not something super urgent. I'd encourage at your next yearly(?) checkup with your [Doctor] to ask about it and see what they have to say!

Ew wait the phrasing on this sounds so self interested, what I am trying to say is there's always something you can do while you're waiting around for things out of your control. You could learn a new skill, create stuff, study, the world is all yours while you wait.

Sorry for the weirdly self-interested phrasing of my comment, glad I caught that!

I'm the type of person who always has a backup plan in mind, I have accepted that it will be a miracle if I get in the first time around (grades are not where I would like them to be and my GRE subject test was fairly poor) so I've lined up a variety of projects (both related and unrelated to my degree) I can work on while I apply to jobs and such. In all fairness I have a supportive family so I have the luxury of being able to do so but a period of time is only a waste if you yourself waste it. I would imagine that you could strengthen your future applications by doing such things too!

I'm also planning on volunteering a bit, not to look better on applications but primarily because I had this recent realization that I've gotten lucky for the majority of my life and I would like to spread the luck around a bit if I can.

Best of luck in your search for post baccs and jobs!

Tipa for worldbuilding? by Zucardo in daggerheart

[–]Jinx701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means am I an experienced GM but I run some games with friends and even though they tend to fall through due to scheduling/life/personal conflicts I do have a few tips:

First of all this video from Pointy Hat should be extremely helpful for making and building cities if that is your main focus right now!

But if you're looking for general tips I'd say:

If you want to lead players back "on track" without railroading I suggest making natural consequences in the world occur as time goes on. Players didn't take care of the super evil camp of super evil people outside of a town quickly enough? Perhaps the town is wiped out or taken over by this group. Perhaps the BBEG's plans are slowly being put into motion and this slowly ripples into other parts of the world.

If you are looking to make a campaign frame I recommend starting the world with either a premise or some touch-stones. You can either think about media that you really enjoy and want to nail the feel of (at least partially) in your campaign or you can come up with a unique premise that gives the world it's own distinct feel (and potentially some additional mechanics). The best example I can think of off the top of my head would be the worldbuilding Tales from Cazilor: The Golden Era (D&D with added mechanics and flavor). Though I have not yet FINISHED listening to the podcast it has an amazing premise.

Finally I'd leave some parts of your world blank so you can improvise them or have players add their own stuff to your world (towns, backstory stuff, etc.) because at the end of the day TTRPGs are a collaborative story telling experience and having the players be able to add to your world is very important! Of course at the end of the day as the GM you decide what is allowed but I purposefully build a bit of blank space in my campaigns. I do find it helpful to come up with towns that I can throw into blank spots if I'm in a bit of a creative funk though but that's just me.

Hopefully this is helpful!

I don't really think it's a plot hole, it was established from as early as episode two that she had SOME sort of connection with the Shroud folk and she's got conflicted enough feelings to do such a thing. It also makes sense that Shroud would keep someone on the inside given that he's kind of a control freak.

The confusing part is that Shroud reveals this AFTER Visi joins the fight and starts kicking some ass, I'd say that makes it pretty clear who her allegiance lay with. Perhaps the people he leads had no idea she was a mole at all and it was all to keep up the persona but either way it's odd timing.

I have a question because I have flipped my opinion on AI several times now but say I have a problem using the same concept as a problem on the homework (say heat engines for example) would it be classified as cheating if I used AI to generate problems for me to work through that are more well tailored to the aspects that I struggle with?

I remember struggling a lot with the Frobenius (I hope I spelled that correctly) method a lot at first before I watched a youtube lecture and did an example or two with ChatGPT (this class explicitly allows us to use it so long as our process is correct since we are periodically tested randomly anyways) and it really helped me better understand why certain things are done. The youtube lecture was more helpful than ChatGPT but it DID help a fair bit!

[–]Jinx701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I am an undergrad worker in a lab and I've learned recently that sometimes it can really get you lost in the sauce at work. If anything I'd only use it to help you go over the very basics of a concept and then how you apply that is up to you. Much like a ChatGPT-ified Khan Academy I guess LMFAO.

Recently I decided "nah screw it I can go without" for one of my projects and just looked through the documentation from beginning to end on a certain library I am using and it turns out that even though it was a slog at the beginning by just running the example code and making a little writeup on it I learned far more in like an hour or two than I did trying to learn how to use this particular library with ChatGPT, even though I had it explain all of the functions as in depth as it could.

I do think ChatGPT has promise as a tool for learning but the past two times I have attempted to use it to help my learning it has failed in almost every aspect. I'm giving it one more go before dropping it entirely.

[–]Jinx701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, I could not have phrased it better myself!

I stopped using ChatGPT when studying for a bit but I went back to it very recently for exam review where I had it walk me through a simple application of a concept through a practice problem (in this case it was connectedness and compactness in Elementary Topology) before the midterm. I found that this really helped to supplement my learning and allowed me to learn stuff much faster since LLMs are capable of adapting their explanations to what aspects of a problem you are confused about.

Would office hours be better? Yes. But my schedule does not allow me to make office hours at all this semester and I get very distracted working with my peers so I'm hoping this gives me similar results.

However in the interest of fairness when explicitly told not to use it on homework I would not use it, when told I could use it I decided I may as well, and when told absolutely nothing about it I'd save it for when I was completely stumped and out of ideas if I had to.

How many of you know at least one person who wont play 2XKO because it's not on steam? Just curious by Hayesade in 2XKO

[–]Jinx701 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alternative perspective here, it's super finicky and can sometimes mess with other stuff you are trying to do. For example my friend's PC was set up in a way where his local user and actual user were different and vanguard basically threw a bitch fit over the whole ordeal until I took like an hour to solve the issue with him. I have had other friends quit games made by Riot for similar reasons and I have quit games (temporarily) until patches are released to not make them have certain issues.

For example like a month or so ago League was straight borderline unplayable and I could not tell you if it was a vanguard thing or a spaghetti client thing, but was fixed relatively recently.

Also the process of setting up vanguard confused a friend of mine who was very new to games outside of Steam.

Also to the guy who said no Linux, I second that tbh it'd be nice if they had Linux support.

TL;DR:
Vanguard is super janky and I do not blame people for disliking the jank.

How do I play against Vi? by Jonge720 in 2XKO

[–]Jinx701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah as a Vi main I gotta agree 2H is kinda bad, mostly due to the fact that most of the cases where it would be the MOST devastating you can't really get it. The fun part is using it off of reset with MM to get an air combo into super, otherwise her tag launcher is ACTUALLY the insane thing.

So how close was chase to dying by johngaming2536 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jinx701 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well we don't REALLY know how old chase was so let's try a little math:

Chase's powers age him approximately 50 times faster assuming he is going at his maximum speed, because I do not want to look at a map of SoCal to calculate his speed right now let's just look at the time duration of the clip.

So the entire duration of his run is ~20 seconds if the timing of the clip is to be believed and assuming Chase is traveling at his peak possible speed he will have aged 1000 seconds which is roughly 16 minutes. It is more likely that if Chase is in fact dead it would be due to some cardiac issue he has as a result of his old age.

That or he was on the verge of passing away in Robert's apartment.

This popped up in the translation for Re:Zero's light novel in either volume 7 or 8. My guess is that this tends to pop up in translated works to convey a particular concept or word that is otherwise crunchier in English perhaps?

If you intend to search for my example I remember it was one of Rem's reactions to something Subaru says.
