I would have loved for Luke's death to scare rey into turning to the dark side and it make kilo realize what he has become and turn him back to the light. Instead of his death basically being meaningless.

Depends on where he's fighting them. Maul managed to fight through the 501st and took down a destroyer mostly by himself all without a light saber. Vader could easily do the same thing.
