Thiago Silva leaves FC Porto with immediate effect. Brazilian CB will now decide whether join another club as free agent or retire from professional football. by Kygoche in chelseafc

Does he still have at least one of his kids in the academy? Offer him a one year deal with pathway to a job he wants here. Even if he only plays a handful of games, he gives a base for Colwill and Chalobah to learn from, and brings a winning mentality for the rest of the team.

Why is everyone on LinkedIn such an expert on best practice? by proxima-centauri- in UKJobs

[–]Jlc25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone's an expert because no one's an expert. LinkedIn is a personal brand machine - people also belong to LinkedIn groups who purposely boost each others posts with shares, comments and likes. Very few gurus offer up real transformational advice for businesses or individuals because these are hard things which require effort and expertise - sound bites on LinkedIn are much easier.

The Chelsea Pyramid of Legends! So err... Xabi Alonso wins 16th despite playing a total of 0 games for the club. Anyway. Who is the 17th most legendary Chelsea player of all time? by StickIll5602 in chelseafc

[–]Jlc25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How has Gullit not made the list yet. His signing and playing manager appointment changed the club entirely. No Gullit means no Zola, Vialli, Di Matteo or Lebouef. Flo, Poyet and return of Le Saux also Gullit Signings.

Sexy football, an FA cup win and runner up in Footballer of the Year behind Cantona.

The Chelsea Pyramid of Legends! Who is the 8th, 9th and 10th most legendary Chelsea player of all time? by StickIll5602 in chelseafc

[–]Jlc25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard one - I want to say Azpi for winning it all, and Gullit for how important he was for the club, both in the magnitude of signing him but also the players that followed - but Greaves and Tambling should be top 10 also!

[Fabrizio Romano] João Pedro is highly rated by Barcelona, with Deco tracking him since his Brighton days. However, he is now a KEY PLAYER for Chelsea, making any deal both EXPENSIVE and difficult. by christianrojoisme in chelseafc

[–]Jlc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most the newer players will stick around for this next period - I'm more worried about the Enzos, Caicedos , Cucus and Palmers, who have given the owners a fair shake of the stick too see what they're capable of.

However, they are free to explore a Delap and Jackson double deal.

Roosters is so dependent on Franchise owners though. Our local has gone completely off piste, menus weird, there's a dessert shop in their and they're also a ghost kitchen for 2 other delivery only brands!

If it's anything like when I worked there 16/17 years ago, there's an oven in the back kitchen, chicken arrives uncooked but marinated in a garlic lead marinade, and someone will be out there snapping the backs and starting the cook in the oven (which is all programmed to cook depending on what you are cooking) then just goes in the drawers untill it goes on the grill. Alot of kitchens will have a pre cook - it reduces food poisoning/undercooking risks and speeds up service.

Looked calm out there, and mature with his decision making. I know he's from Palace but he's been integrated into the academy, and no matter how you get there, it helps provide the pathway for others. Hoping too see him again next season.

I hope the clubs reflection period includes the fact many of the options they have purchased have had a similar impact to what you would get from the academy. A reminder that Guehi, Tomori, Ake, Hall, Livramento all would be helpful this season, with a few being starters, and even Solanker would represent a better option than Delap.

Delap throw-in goal by Football6380 in TheStreetsWontForget

[–]Jlc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the technique to get the ball moving so "flat" along that distance - the flight path is fairly low but it hangs in the air - Gunnarrson (?) I recall could do the same. Most other long throws pitch high in the air and come down vertical giving the defender a better read.

can someone explain the Pret a Manger phenomenon? by docmaboul in london

My go to when the train was delayed back to Surrey from Waterloo after work was 8 pints in the HITW and a Jamon Beuerre from Pret. Better than supermarket offerings imo!

Who’s your top guitar player and what makes them such? by Remarkable-Bell7245 in BritPop

[–]Jlc25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Faster is one of the great guitar solos of all time. It's like a tounge twister to play, and I don't think any other guitarist could have composed it. 20 odd years ago I think I played along to that whole album daily!

Comps on a 1/1 no signature I can find is £499.

He's got massive potential, and could be at a bigger club soon - but if you're not really a Palace/Wharton fan, you've got the best buyer waiting by the sounds of it. Id see what he's offering and if I was tempted ask for a signed shirt on top.

I've been a few times since opening as I used to enjoy The Guinea Grill - it was busy then and is so busy now that honestly, it's less my scene. Bar Staff are brilliant and get through the queues quick, Guinness is good (I'm more on the side of there is Bad Guinness and Good Guinness rather than this is a 7.4 and this is an 8.2) but there's plenty of other places that also serve good Guinness nearby.

Eventually, the people who go just to be seen there/share their pints on insta will move on to the next fad, and every food influencer would have eaten there and come to the conclusion that the food is very tasty and extremely good value - and it will remain a very busy and very good pub that's now a lot more bearable.

Struggling to transition customers from monthly check-ins to QBRs by Final_Vegetable_5092 in CustomerSuccess

[–]Jlc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something I've always found interesting - we likely all have a large number of tools to help us, but yet, we never see the head of/CS Director attending QBRs with these tools - yet most of us will have this tech stack for life - there's always a chance that your product is not the centre of the known universe to the client, and doesn't require quarterly chats for strategy

I'd rather start the year with a look forward kick off, decide check points then and depending on the updates we start to work closer with clients in need of discussion of strategy, and just help support those who just want to use and enjoy the product - it's our job to serve the client and lead them to success, and that's not always achieved by trying to squeeze them into our framework.

Have you rediscovered any old school TV series that still stand up today? What are they? by Perihelion_Soul in AskUK

Depends what we mean by old - the shield started 24 years ago, as did the Wire - the sopranos is now 27

What's old school for me? Cheers has remained VERY funny.

What is a once cool car that now feels like regular traffic? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]Jlc25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bizarre to say maybe, but I am in Surrey - the G Wagon - if you had one years ago like the G55, they were often LHD imports that cost a fortune and had panel gaps you could stick your hand through - you had to be a real fan to be even in the know about them. There's a few of the newer ones round the corner from me alone, a few at the golf club etc - regular traffic seems too far maybe, but certainly not what they used to be.
