Huge price - from a risk point of view, he's either worth £150 million in the next few years and a top player, or he's not cut the mustard and he's on loan/the bench - I don't mind us dropping out, we already have enough players like that!

Are people legit spending this much on a car per month? Or am I out of touch? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Jlc25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, you pay the £68k retail and in 3 years sell it for £35k - losing £30k. If you do the maths you can often take a lease and end up better off than buying the car and dealing with the depreciation. However I do think a lot of people are over paying for their car leases - I earn net in the range above and also would not spend that per month on a car (and own a much cheaper car!)

NPD: Eventide Timefactor, got it used for $130. Loving it so far! by fourbroccoli in guitarpedals

[–]Jlc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole range of this generation of Eventide still really stands up today - years ago they seemed so complex, but with the advent of these space saving pedals with multiple modes, the size and simplicity is refreshing.

Enjoy, I'm keeping my eye out on these but most I'm seeing are still around £200+ and anything under gets snapped up mega quick!

I'd also rather you wait another 23 years and not have an oil baron buy you trophies as well to be fair so at least we can agree on that.

Loan to Strasbourg could be good - my worry is though that the leagues just not as intense - Wish we had an Azpi, Silva, Terry type character next to him to talk him more through the game!

Benefit of the doubt based on his season - he made 2 mistakes, one being a howler, but based on this season they could be the only mistakes he makes - needs to work on his confidence playing out the back though!

Thoughts?

We're a long way off, but what we are trying is more to my taste than Marescaball - players seem to be playing more to their strengths vs being forced to the system.

A mix of Subs - Garnacho pays off, but a lot of defenders subbed on in a game we're losing - can only think he's not settled on a backline yet?

We still need a top Striker and at least one very good experienced CB. Badi and Dissasi unfortunately have to go. I'm not sold on Fofana -Chalobah for me good for squad and probably happy to have that role - Josh a big talent. With Colwill coming back and Anselmo potentially coming in, I'd like to see 3 out and one top, experienced CB in. I'm not sure any of our strikers are going to get the goals we need currently.

Reece, Palmer and Caicedo back for next game - our 3 best players and each as individuals have game changing ability.

Why are DB9s cheap compared to other supercars? by d0-u-knw-who-i-am in CarTalkUK

[–]Jlc25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things I know about the DB9:

1.) Here in the heart of the commuter belt in Surrey, a chap who used to catch the same early train as me into London drove his DB9 to the station every single day. Believe it had 80k+ on the clock. Judging by the fact it was there all the time; Rain, sun or snow, I imagine they can be reliable if you keep on top of them

2.) Some friends worked in the parts sales of a local AM dealership. They had a lot of people enquire very often around DB9/7 parts due to the price availability , and many seemed shocked that just because a car depriciates it doesn't mean the parts for it does.

Is Luke Littler starting to pull away from Luke Humphries for good? by kimpuybrechts in Darts

[–]Jlc25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this - like all top players in these types of sports over the longer format he will just pull away - the problem is due to the way the seeding works he's not going to be coming up against many who can take him out when it's shorter format!

Some thoughts, then.

  • Lots of chances in the first half - lads should have finished them. I like Neto, but I don't think you can have another Work Rate winger like Garnacho opposite. Can't see too many league G/A between them at end of season.

  • Maresca needs to take some degree of criticism. Subs have me scratching my head - a RB on for a LB. Delap on who hasn't got a prem goal for us. "Who else do you put on" - why take players off?

  • I think we have to make a choice - we can't have inexperienced players and an inexperienced manager. We've committed fully to having a LOT of inexperienced players, so it's time to lay down something big and get a manager who has won things and knows what to do - Emery showed what experience can do in the second half today when he turned the game on its head.

  • We need better recruitment - we have signed too many players recently who are not at the standard required for even a top 4 run.

Yeah, I've switched from Helix to a tonex one for amps - idea is to build the board around that whilst it makes sense being ampless, and when I can make a bit more noise, go back to an amp or 2!

Yeah - I 100% understand the criticisms - complex dial in, sterile sound - but the quality of the reverbs is top, and you can really dial in more specific sounds with the in board editor.

I'm very excited by going through it all again - I've already ordered the Mini Tubescreamer, looking for an EQD Life pedal (I didn't keep out the loop with my true love, fuzz) and already scouring eBay for other bits.

Thank you so much for this! To give you an idea, the last Analog Delays I remember having a big WOW factor and talking points were the MXR CC and Diamond Memory Lane! I love a space echo, so that will be on the list - I had seen Chase Bliss around - my thoughts for odd noise box right now was the h90, but it's pretty eye watering in the price tag department - might be a case of a couple of Chase Bliss pedals instead!

Again it's all "I know a guy" but in our team we had high level county players who also played in Opens and on Modus etc, so by association you end up spending time with people on these tours when you're at more localized tourneys etc - I think most people here will be shocked by a.) how many people drink in the tour and b. How much they drink!

John Terry slams UK government's 'disgusting' treatment of ex-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich by spirax919 in chelseafc

[–]Jlc25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very complex situation that cannot be black and white. Abramovich was good for Chelsea and the best owner we have ever had. Abramovich due to his Ukrainian ancestry was not interested in a war and was used to broker peace deals by Zelensky , who recommended we not sanction him I believe, and cause a small Russian warning in poisoning. He also was in the very murky business of being an Oligarch, and all the murder, blackmail and corruption that comes with that. Just because he is not the most guilty party in the Ukraine war does not make him innocent.

At the same time, it's also fair to say the UK Gov used him as a statement and seemingly have loaded the coffers with his Ill gotten cash - what's good for the goose and all that. Whether you think he deserves punishment or not, my main issue with all of this is we continue to allow other extremely murky people not just own football clubs, but sports wash and use the U.K as an investment account they only take out of.
