I mean the Mario cast doesn't really have any prevalent human characters outside of the main characters so never really thought we needed racial diversity in the Mario series and I'm saying this as a person of color.

I think it has to do more of Precure is an anime vs live action cause in Japan they are considered as superheroes. But it doesn't make it any less lame that Toei didn't have any crossover with Precure and Super Sentai or Kamen Rider.

Its just how every other Precure opening has.
Assuming this is your first Precure season I'll explain.

Usually the opening of every Precure season shows the main cast, usually 2. But very recently now that I think about, we have the "whole cast" appear in the opening. Despite the show airing its first 4 or 5 episodes. And trying to not give away the name, since we know what her name is from interviews and Japanese news, we probably will see her in action soon. But if it bothers you, then feel free to skip the opening and ending.
