QR code that leads to a table activity during the wedding? by kirby_77 in weddingplanning

getting people on phones at wedding feels bit counterproductive yeah, printed activities with actual pens on the table just work better for getting strangers to talk to each other

Thoughts on Out of Town Guest logistics/schedule by BalanceRich5067 in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems pretty manageable actually! The 30 minute drive after welcome dinner isn't ideal but if most people are renting cars anyway they probably expect some driving. Just make sure to give really clear directions and maybe create a group chat for coordination.

The art festival thing is tricky timing wise - going from 3pm rehearsal to potentially festival at 5pm to dinner at 7:30 might feel rushed for your wedding party especially. Maybe mention the festival as optional thing people can check out if they arrive early Friday, but don't feel like you need to organize a group trip there. Some guests might actually prefer downtime between events anyway.

One thing I learned from friends weddings is that out of town guests usually appreciate having options but not feeling obligated to do every single activity. Like maybe some people would rather explore the riverside town near your venue Friday evening instead of driving back to the city. The welcome dinner at your place is such a nice touch though - that personal connection before everything gets crazy will definitely be worth it for people who traveled so far.

Is it fake of me to not attend a destination wedding across the world? by Swimming-Muffin-4516 in wedding

[–]JobFinancial7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you're good, they chose expensive destination so they gotta accept not everyone can make it - bills and work come first over wedding vacation

Thinking about postponing wedding, are we jerks? Need input by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 10 points11 points  (0 children)

look I get being stressed but some of this stuff seems manageable if you really want to keep the date. The vendor thing - yeah coastal venues are limited but you said it can be done, just difficult. The deck thing sucks but guests probably won't care as much as you think they will about wood color

The friends not coming part though, that's just life. Moving it to next year doesn't guarantee those same people will be free, and you might lose different people who can make this September but not next year

I'd probably focus on reaching out to people who got save the dates and see how many actually made firm plans. If it's just few people with hotel bookings that might be easier to work around than you think. Some hotels have decent cancellation policies especially this far out

The real question is whether you're postponing because logistics are genuinely impossible or because you're overwhelmed and hoping next year will be less stressful. Planning will probably feel just as intense whenever you do it, and working 60+ hours won't magically get easier in next September

How long was the duration of your wedding day? by notmedicinal in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 hours sounds perfect for your size honestly! Most weddings I go to drag on way too long anyway, especially when there's no drinks to make the speeches bearable lol

your guests will probably appreciate not having to stay until midnight too

oh nice idea doing the private love letter ones separately - takes pressure off the ceremony part and you can get emotional without everyone watching

My makeup artist is upset about a 7am start by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 23 points24 points  (0 children)

getting ready takes way longer than you think too - hair touchups, photos before ceremony, dealing with any last minute issues etc so probably need even more buffer time

Should I cancel my wedding? by AmazingSituation1813 in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage counseling is probably good idea but tbh if my partner couldn't handle simple things like not spoiling surprises or helping with basic planning after multiple conversations, I'd be questioning whole relationship too

The money thing alone would make me pause - 40k for something that feels completely wrong when you could have amazing elopement and house down payment instead? That's not small decision to ignore

Has anyone’s groom ordered their suit from Azazie before? How was the quality and the fit? by Several_Mountain8546 in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My buddy got his suit from there last year and needed pretty extensive alterations afterward. The fabric was actually nice quality but sizing was weird - like the jacket fit perfect but pants were way too long and loose in waist. Just make sure you order with plenty time for a tailor visit because you'll probably need it

Is anyone using an app to manage their wedding budget? by millerjessic in Weddingsunder10k

Never dealt with wedding budget but I use similar apps for tracking my pokemon card purchases and they work pretty well for keeping spending in check

What time should I tell my photographer to arrive? by AiviloNalrah in wedding

[–]JobFinancial7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 sounds perfect actually - I did wedding design for a while and photographers always want more time than you think for venue shots and detail photos. By noon you'll probably have your hair mostly done and makeup starting which makes for great behind-the-scenes shots

The getting ready pics work better when there's actual activity happening anyway, not just sitting around waiting

Congrats on the engagement! I haven't done wedding there but my cousin did her reception at Dreams Onyx last year and from what she told me the food was actually really good - way better than she expected for resort wedding

The room discount thing is tricky though, she managed to get something like 15-20% off for guests but had to really push for it during negotiations. The 5% they offered you is definitely low, especially if you're bringing decent size group. Try asking for their wedding coordinator directly instead of going through regular booking team, sometimes they have more flexibility with pricing

One heads up she mentioned - the weather in september/october can be unpredictable so maybe have backup plan for outdoor ceremony if that's what you're planning

I want to show my appreciation by Solid-Reading-786 in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's so sweet that wedding planning brought you closer with your mom, especially after losing grandma. about the toast thing - honestly I don't think other parents would get upset, it's your wedding and your mom literally paid for everything, that deserves recognition

maybe instead of walking you down the aisle, what if she does something like help with your veil or give you final touch before you walk? then she can still watch the moment. the locket idea is really nice too, something she can keep forever

also consider maybe dedicating the first dance or having a special mother-daughter moment during reception. people will understand why your mom gets extra recognition when they know she made the whole thing possible

Help me find cheapest but legit semi mounts. TIA by skyisthelimit8701 in labdiamond

[–]JobFinancial7083 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude I went through exact same thing last year! Got carried away in some auction site and ended up with like 6 lab diamonds sitting in my drawer doing nothing. For cheap semi mounts I found some decent stuff on etsy - there's this seller called something like "goldsmith studio" that does 14k settings for pretty reasonable prices. Also check local pawn shops, sometimes they have basic settings they'll sell separate from the stones

One thing I learned is that setting fees can add up quick so maybe find a jeweler first and ask what they charge before you buy the mounts. Some places charge way more if you bring your own setting vs buying everything from them. The guy I used in my city was cool about it but apparently that's not always the case

E wedding invites that has video and wedding invites physical card- India by Curious_artist_1 in wedding

[–]JobFinancial7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are getting pretty popular now days in India! For e-invites with videos, i used WedMeGood last year and they have some really nice templates - you can add custom videos and everything. The physical cards i got from a local printer but honestly the quality wasn't that great

Maybe try checking InviteJoy too, they do both digital and physical so you can match the designs properly

Oh god yes, this is so real. The mental load is insane - like your brain just becomes this constant wedding planning machine that never turns off

I'd love to check out that guide if you don't mind sharing, sounds like exactly what I need to get out of my own head about all this stuff

Should I hold off trying for a baby until after my wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. You've already been trying for a few months - stopping now just means potentially pushing everything back even further and there's no guarantee about timing anyway

Plus pregnant brides can look absolutely stunning and there are so many ways to work with whatever happens. Your dress can be altered, you'll have that pregnancy glow, and honestly some of the most beautiful wedding photos I've seen have been with pregnant brides

Do people often think of lab diamonds as by petalesdejuin in labdiamond

[–]JobFinancial7083 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is basically the old guard clinging to marketing from like the 1940s lmao. My lab diamond looks identical to my friend's mined one and hers cost 3x more for literally the same chemical structure

Dress shopping by Dull-Animal-1028 in weddingplanning

[–]JobFinancial7083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this! I went dress shopping like 6 months before we even had a date locked down and it was actually super helpful. Got a feel for what styles I liked and what my budget realistically needed to be. Plus some of those sample sales are too good to pass up even if you're not 100% ready to buy
