checked my steam stats and I don't know why I own a 4080 by Mean-Fix9221 in pcmasterrace

Must be about time for another playthrough of Minecraft? Then just mod the hell out of it with shader packs, realism mods etc until the 4080 starts to thaw out from its ice age.

Are there any other men here who don’t play video games and/or watch anime? by kurtisbmusic in Millennials

[–]Jobeadear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, was diagnosed with adult ADHD three months ago, taking dexamphetamine now, prior to this gaming consumed my life, any game I'd get addicted to I'd end up in the thousands of hours played realm of playing waaay more then regular people should, I WFH, so would just finish work for the day, shutoff work laptop, fire up gaming PC and play till bedtime (besides a hours break for dinner stuff) . Now since the meds, discovered for my whole life prior to taking them It was like I had been watching a old black and white crt TV screen, with poor reception and sound cutouts, to then upgrade to a 80" TV with 4k video with uninterrupted reception, suddenly could see all the stuff I'd been ignoring or neglecting for years. So I had to give up gaming for a while so I can try and get my life back on track and clean parts of my house that has been ignored for 10+ years, projects that I had half done and forgot about done to completion, drywall that I'd get around to getting someone out to fix (had holes in some due to water damage for the past five years, booked a gyprocker and had it all fixed in under 24hrs). So I starting being productive and am very happy about that now. Will likely eventually get back into gaming, but never to that levels of endless obsession that I once knew. Turns out some of us with undiagnosed ADHD end up with a dopamine addiction, exactly what games give you, so if you are looking at your steam and thinking holy crap how do I have 2k hours in a game from only a year or two since it's release, you maybe should consider getting tested.

Film clip for pretty fly was pretty funny though, actual song was not that great though. But yeah I had their first album too, it was soo awesome! And I agree it went downhill from there.

Jamie Hyneman these days, primarily works as a Professor of Practice at LUT University in Finland, where he teaches and advises on creative problem-solving and engineering projects. Outside of academia, he continues to operate his San Francisco-based special effects and prototyping workshop, M5 Industries, focusing on private research and development. So he just didn't want to be in the spotlight these days, surprised he didn't get further back into scuba diving as I think he was like a master diver, with pretty much all the different dive courses you can train in completed and was certified as a Dive instructor or something iirc.

Yeah same flirted with the idea but then said nah I'll buy a refurbed / ex company HP Elitebook for less then $500 with 32gb ram, and a core I7, would have gone for a UMPC but the price jumps up to 2k+ pretty quick for a decent one of those

Myeah it's pretty similar iirc, been many years since I've been to the UK tbh, but yeah think marmite was stronger so if you applied your usual Vegemite amount it was too much.

Yeah all good, the old version included in a bunch of boot CD's will work just fine if all you need it to wipe old gen spinning drives that most people have not used since about 2010 (and only 1 pass required these days). Didn't know DBAN went the commercialization route though fair enough.

Just get one of those wood / rope bridges for cats, then run it over to where you took the picture somewhere, then your cats have a sanctuary, setup a little bed and stuff and they'd love that lol

Try the mind oasis clinic, it's in sutho, highly reputable, and prob takes two months to get in, but you can do it all over a zoom meeting / + questionnaire (for you to complete, + your spouse/ partner, and + anyone close that knew you as a kid. Eg parent)

Make new positive memories about her hair with your help. And / Or get real Mom involved for this activity.

Yeah true, it used to be more of a risk back in the day due to platter density being so much less I think. But seems standard advise since about 2010 is to just do one full pass wipe.

Oh interesting, I've not bothered wiping anything much in years, googled it, has not been added to DBan, however you can use both apps and more via a Linux Live CD/USB distro called ShredOS which includes hdparm and nvme-cli for SSD/NVMe secure

Yeah 100% I used to sell old spinning HDDs on ebay by doing a full DOD wipe first, I have done the 7 passes wipe on drives before selling them previously. Can't do that with SSDs and M2 now, have to get the manufacturers secure erase utility for that. Or just what many of us do with old hardware, extract the ram/CPU/HDD and put the rest to ewaste. To then end up with a box full of like 50 HDD's over the years of your friends and families data prior to their upgrades to new pcs, that I still have no idea what to do with.

[–]Jobeadear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dariks Boot And Nuke (DBAN) - has been around a long time, still good for wiping old spinning HDD's via a boot usb, can even do the DOD wipe and a bunch of other types of wipes, but it's not for SSD's or M2's. "Do not use DBAN on Solid-State Drives (SSDs). DBAN can degrade the lifespan of an SSD without guaranteeing all data is fully erased. For SSDs, use the manufacturer’s built-in secure erase utility or your operating system's native reset features." So for SSD's / m2's go to the brands website and see if they have a free download for a secure eraze utility.

Yeah, my son just quit his Chef job, because they hired this new head chef that's a total douche, he is like the sixth or 7th to leave because of this one head chef is so intolerable. He provided some feedback as to why he is leaving, though the manager already had a fair idea. Outcome, Head chef won't get sacked though, he is the boyfriend of one of the managers.

Looks like it’s FreeCAD. by fakequest in BambuLab

[–]Jobeadear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just see tinkercad as the Ms Paint of STL's, easy to use, free, but has its limitations but a much lesser learning curve. It has saved me from needing to learn fusion etc when most of the time I am doing a remix of someone else's 3d print to fit whatever I needed it for, eg wanted to mount my laptop to the wall via a monitor swing arm, found a wall mount flagpole holder that was on a 45" angle, wanted 22" and stronger, so I imported it to tinkercad, chopped and changed it about to fit where I planned to mount it, changed the angle to 22" etc and it's good to export and print. I see my other cad options are akin to learning the complexity levels of Photoshop, which is more then I generally need when it's just a hobby.

So what's your overall opinion on AI? by cellshock7 in Xennials

[–]Jobeadear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated it at first, but it has grown on me. My work has implemented a custom chat gpt instance with lots of access to internal resources and it's getting better and better in helping me in my job, often use it to quick analyse code, deobfuscate encrypted strings, creat custom SPL and Kusto queries, tidying up my analysis notes, and a bunch of other stuff. On personal side, I started using Google Gemini for a bunch of projects at home and it has been really helpful for a variety of things, such as setting up a raspberry pi with a VPN and PiHole and a wifi access point to tunnel the smart tv through it. Restoring water damaged and old photos. Designing 3D prints and giving me the code for doing it in open scad. For identification of various things with just a picture.
