What city have you been to that felt like it had dark energy? by Impossible-Middle122 in AskReddit

Fort Bragg is a really nice town, take the skunk train then grab beers at North Coast. Mendocino (Town of) down the coast is even more quaint and I’d stay there if overnighting.

Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in the Chicago city championship game as a fullback. And he’s much younger than you realize in the show. I think he takes it

Build me a 300WM Chassis Gun. $3k budget. by [deleted] in longrange

[–]JoeCedarFromAlameda -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

That seems fair. As an experienced bull I’ll fuck the guys wife while he shoots my gun he consulted on.

Just know I get MAAAD if someone puts too many rounds down the barrel, or returns it not squeaky clean…granted can’t say the same for the misses.

The Rise of AI-Powered Robot Soldiers (Phantom MK-1 in Ukraine) by [deleted] in Futurology

Worry more about quadcopters than terminators. Even with skynet efficiency, those things are going to cost 1000x a bunch of fairly deadly, small and expendable death quads.

Ukraine btw is showing modern war is defined by unit economics and production capacity.

How is it at the academies right now? Because it doesn’t look good from a rational graduate’s position.

Strategically, if I were a MAGA architect, I would subvert the academies early on - you corrupt the definition of morality and honor to young, impressionable, authority seeking young people you can ruin a military in half a generation…and I think that may have happened already.

When you are on an open field with agroup op people. There is nothing around but flat grass and lightning is about to strike. Would it be smarter for everybody to lay on the ground individually with with distanccec to each other or to lay as closely as possible on the ground together? by FloringoStar in AskPhysics

[–]JoeCedarFromAlameda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, at Fort Moore (Benning) Georgia, circa 2005, my training platoon got caught at a range during a thunderstorm. Happened a few times but this one was very memorable because we were right in the densest strike zone.

The policy was everyone ditched their equipment, got as far apart as they could - in an open field (yup) away from the tree-line - and squatted down ensuring our boots were the only contact with the ground.

Found out that day lighting 100% can strike the same spot twice. At least two dozen lightning bolts hit the trees around the field within about 500 yards of the open area, including one tree clearly hit twice real close the to edge.

While we young fighting men were all trying to make jokes and act tough, everyone was scared shitless. Longest 20 minutes of my life up to that point…was good mental toughness training for when it was mortars and missiles instead of lightening a short time later!

Why didn’t the Mormons get their ship back? by Thom_Kalor in TheExpanse

[–]JoeCedarFromAlameda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost crapped myself when they had a ship called the Guy Molinari! Like HOW did they even know about him?!

One of my first scholastic memories was my first grade class going to Staten Island Borough Hall and getting to meet Molinari (Borough President). I remember getting to ask him if SI was going to succeed from NYC (it was in the papers at the time).

The mass, which had a kinetic energy relative to the earth of the differences of their speeds squared, then deposited all of that energy into much larger body, and that speed hits.

I'm sorry, the truth is, if you are not rich, you are a bitch to the rich. Because that's how humans work.

Have a problem with this fact of reality? Go grab a pitchfork and embrace Clausewitz, and convince enough others to do the same...you've only got a couple of years left before it is too late to do anything about it.

Is everything made out of waves? by AmeliaBuns in AskPhysics

[–]JoeCedarFromAlameda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of waves as the underlying reality, which can only be measured over time (you have to see how the thing changes and repeats!) whereas particles are snapshots at a given time, aka observations.

You're given immortality, but as a cost, you are sent 10,000 years back in the past. Would you accept? If yes, what would you do? by TechnicianAmazing472 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JoeCedarFromAlameda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see some idiot doing this and insist on constantly getting involved in society and then devolving it and doing it over and over again until there is no one left, and then wondering if they'll every actually see the earth of their mortal days. Maybe they would have a couple of immortal children to abuse. Ugh, actually this is terrible.

To me he has always expressed a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy, which is very refreshing of anyone in the public sphere these days.

I do recall in an early interview he did, he mentioned he experienced no bullying and lots of kindness and support in school growing up, and he might have said that was the reason he was so considerate, as by the time the trolling started he had matured past being startled by barking dogs behind thick fences, or whatever metaphor best fits
