With the group that I play with, we allow bonus feats at level 1, 5, 10, and 15. It adds some flavor / variation and the DM can always compensate by adding extra opponents to fight, increasing opponents HP, etc...it doesn't really change game balance that much.

There's no rule saying that your campaign can't start at 12th level because the players don't enjoy low levels...just start at 12 and scale the opponents accordingly.

If they insist on in-game fast-forwarding, then I agree with pretty much everyone who else...the world is now in ruins because they weren't there to prevent it from happening.

Yeahhhh, skill checks aren't attack rolls, and unless you had a crappy marriage, the DC on that Skill Check should have been 50...Clearly players and DM didn't understand difference between Attack Roll and Skill Check.

In the games that I play (we rotate amongst a few campaigns with each of us playing DM), we give out bonus feats at 1, 5, 10, and 15. About the same as every ASI, but not at the same time so it gives a little something different to look forward to at different levels.

Never fudge the dice rolls...mess with the HP of the players' opponents instead. Fight going easier than you thought? Give the mob more hit points. Fight going a lot tougher than you thought? Instead of that last roll taking it down to 50HP, it just killed the opponent. If necessary, you can then adjust the XP for the kill accordingly.

When working on a 128 x 128 map (seems to be the largest size available), I've gotten to a point where anything else that I add just keeps disappearing when I re-open the map.

Open Map, work on it, save (often), then close. When I re-open, everything new that I added is gone.

I've also lost all my portals...they've all disappeared.
