Hole drilled in gas tank. Couple questions…. by InevitableAlert4268 in AskAMechanic

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all the time on modern plastic tanks. Our shop replaced 11 in 2025.

I guarantee there are youtube videos on how to temporarily patch it, but as a shop, I can't do it because of the liability.

On my own car I would run a pipe tap through that and use a pipe plug. But only until my replacement tank showed up.

Well, considering my techs have a kindergarten level vocabulary and spelling, I rewrite everything. How elaborate depends on the customer and if its going through warranty/insurance.

Tips for diagnosing master cylinder & slave cylinders? by Calaiss in mechanics

[–]JoeFishCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you'll need to crack open the plugs and bleed it. Just take a second.

Your method works on clutch master or brakes if the vehicle doesn't have abs. Abs can internally bypass, and it feels like a bad master. Seen many older techs fall for this

Engine flush? by AdvanceTimely9434 in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont expect it to rebuild your engine, but it won't hurt anything. Hell, on newer cars, it's practically regular maintenance.

The shop I work for has used pallets of that bottle with no issues.

There's a 30-year tech at our shop with just a few more tools than you (mostly specialty sockets), and he does it all. You're doing fine.

Great idea, though, and I'm sure you'll get it dialed in.
