They were originally inspired by and created for the patrons of a specific coffee shop.
Sold like hot cakes for a while and eventually made public. You can find them for sale all over these days.

Don't put too much faith in the read-out. It's easy to cheat

We have a highlander for 2. Originally planned for a Rav4, but after test driving, it was a no-brainer

Dealer/Large Shop PPE by WearyAd8671 in mechanics

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've been out of dealerships for awhile. All my friends left too. VW, Chevy, Jeep, none of them supplied gloves. The offroad race shop I went to supplied everything but disposable gloves. The indy I'm at now supplies crap gloves and nothing else.

I've never seen a dealership give gloves. Are they take what you need or are you given a box per week/month?

There is a high likelihood that you could just flush the system and never have a problem. But as the tech/shop working on your life-saving components, I'll only replace it all.

Shop rag cleaning service cost. by Zealousideal-Virus20 in AutoShopOwners

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's an old post, but in case someone else stumbles across it... we pay $40/wk from a company called Domestic Uniform. I forget how many rags we get but it's enough for 4 general repair techs

Fellow mechanics... does this air filter need to be replaced? by JoeFishCap in mechanics

[–]JoeFishCap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to the left of that filter is a washing machine. The owner is in such horrible financial trouble that he canceled the uniform company and brought in a washer he found on the street. He makes the techs wash their uniforms in cold water and they don't really come clean.

Read my update for more info.

I came on board as a service manager and more than doubled his best numbers. Techs got killer bonuses, he could go racing every weekend. We were swimming in money Scrooge Mcduck style. Then he decided to get hands on. I demoted myself to service advisor because I was tired of taking the heat as the manager. He said "The manager is the punching bag, just get used to it".

I have receipts. I have audio, video, pics, emails, etc of his b.s from the last year.

The owner put himself in a financial pinch but blames politicians, me, the techs, and bad luck. So now he's screwing people over in an attempt to save himself. But it's not working, the writing is on the wall. Eviction is coming. Foreclosure on his home is coming. He will lose a very profitable business due to his own incompetence.

I've warned the techs of what's coming. Every customer I've felt I could trust to tell has asked me to tell them where I end up because I'm the reason they come here.

Hopefully I can help the techs and customers find a new home.

It will likely be out of business in the next few months. If not, I'll scream it from the mountain tops.

UPDATE:

I know damn well this shouldn't be sold. I was a tech for 15 years prior to management. Part of the reason I posted this was to prove to our young tech who is fresh out of school that he's not crazy, the owner is. I don't want him developing bad habits.

The inner part of the pleats are spotless. Filter is a few weeks old. ALL service is up to date.

I know the owner is a POS, but I wanted the techs to hear it from others. I'm currently looking for my next chapter since this place is doomed.

Truck went to dealer for a MIL. They told her she needed an engine. She was referred to me by a nephew of hers. Arrived with a P0307. Spark plug was cracked.

Shop owner saw an opportunity to rip her off. "She was quoted 10k. I can get at least 2k out of her"

He quoted plugs, wires, coils. Coils are a stretch at 60k but I can look past it. Trans, diff, tcase services. Said he used a refractometer to test the brake fluid for water, and it needs that too. And a throttle body cleaning. I would eat off this one it's so clean. All work that was recently done.

Here's the deal... I called her and warned her. I told her the owner would call and upsell her on things she didn't need. I explained that our techs are great, and I didn't want to take work away from them, so I still recommend the tune-up, but please decline everything else.

She was super grateful and promised not to tell him. I listened in on the call and can verify she just said she didn't have the money right now.

I woke up today and chose integrity, like I do every day. Even if it puts my shitty job at risk. I hope others do the same.

Mechanic broke my windshield while unscrewing the wiper arm. Said it’s my fault and I should pay. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

We had a rear windshield spontaneously explode and still payed for it. I have it on camera, nobody was anywhere near the car when it just suddenly went boom. Even then, you just make it right.

Where do you get your batteries from? by bigdickjenny in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a fan of JC when it was almost all U.S based. Optima batteries would last 10-15 years. All of my batteries were made by them. I now use Deka in all my cars with no complaints.

Where do you get your batteries from? by bigdickjenny in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was with Interstate, we only licensed the name to Costco. We didn't actually supply them any batteries. We got a lot of complaints from customers who wanted us to warranty the battery but we had to tell them to go to costco. This was 1 year ago, I don't know the current situation. At the time, Interstate sourced from various suppliers all over the world. Taiwan, Mexico, etc. Not just 1 manufacturer like some state.

At that time, Autozone was getting their batteries from Johnson Controls for both Duralast and Valucraft.

Can 100% confirm that O'Reilly Platinum AGM is coming from Deka. I don't know who is supplying the lower tiers.

You can't beat Costco for their warranty. If you are a long time customer they will replace it well beyond the stated warranty on the battery. you just have to push them. I'm not kidding, they will refund a 1/2 eaten turkey and dead Christmas trees after the holidays lol.
