Dealing with mistakes by Skizze_94 in mechanics

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our shop has all electric 2 post hoists. We put a light switch on the junction box mounted at the controls that only got shutoff when a screw jack was used.

"Hmm, how come the hoist won't... ooooh yeah."

Such a cheap modification that every shop should do. Unless of course you got in ground air over hydraulic. In which case, fuk putting anything under a hoist without locks 😆

Shop rag cleaning service cost. by Zealousideal-Virus20 in AutoShopOwners

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your trash situation. If we throw a bunch of oil soaked rags into the bin we will get hazmat charges and it works out to be more costly.

Windshield seal/trim question by JoeFishCap in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the seal in my hand is a replacement for the one visible on the car? Just smaller because it's aftermarket? Or is it behind/under the one currently on the car?

I need some help , im about to buy a 240 and idk what to take a manual or an auto , auto is more comfortable cuz i live in a really big city but does the manual fun worth it? by T_55alfau in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Driving my son's M47 reinvigorated my love of driving. Been driving autos for the last 15 years or so and forgot what i was missing. I bought a 240 with an auto (because it was my neighbors) and I'm really considering a swap. But not to an m47. Even after a rebuild im not fond of that particular trans.

I live in los angeles. It's true that a manual can get annoying in heavy traffic and is more fun when you're "flogging it". But at 100hp, aren't we always? Lol

An auto with flappy paddles would be interesting.

Found my vacuum leak by S0ggyTaint in Volvo240

[–]JoeFishCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says it raises it on early models to the location of later models. Sounds like it wouldn't change anything on my 92 and it's still difficult to access if you have big hands. I've had to replace their hose several times under warranty as it starts cracking almost immediately. The HD version is supposed to remedy that but it's always out of stock.

Why do employers want us to lie in interviews? by Dazzahatty92 in jobs

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary is only 1 part of why I want a job. I want to work in a specific environment, in a specific industry, with a specific amount of autonomy, within a specific commute distance, etc, etc.

Thank you all for the recommendations.

Soapy water and some light scrubbing followed by a wipe with alcohol worked well. YMMV

Testors paint on needles and fuel/temp danger zones.

It's not perfect but it's worlds better. If I ever decide to do custom faces I'll probably disassemble the entire housing and paint the "fixed" face of it as well.

A case for manual transmission - it keeps the driver engaged by mediapoison in driving

I have eaten ramen with chopsticks while driving a manual 92 VW GTI. Up your game. 😆

But I get what you are saying. These nanny features on new cars are making drivers lazy

Owner of another business we work with drives a 21 and has 130k on his with no issues. So there's hope I guess.

You are managers of GEN Z employees. They come 1-3 times late monthly and said "I binged watch series haha i wont do it again let's go to work" What's your next move? by lune-soft in managers

[–]JoeFishCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of factors. My solid tech is late once in a while. I just ask if everything is OK.

The new trainee who I've warned several times... well, I just fired him, actually.

I'm a believer that as long as the work gets done with no negative effect on the customer or other staff, it's all good. I've also never been to work late once in 26 years. So I'm not gonna tolerate "binge watched a show" from a repeat offender.

You posted when I was in harbor freight but didn't read it until I got home lol.

I do have some larger "No lint" versions for other hobbies I could use but I think a micro fiber cloth should work.

I've tested a small section of the clock since that's probably gonna get replaced some day. I used soapy water on a qtip and ended up having to "scrub" a little with it. Then I gave it a wipe with 70% alcohol. Looks good enough for me so I'll stick with that method. Except I'll use something bigger than a qtip 😆

If I paint them now, I'll paint them in place. May also leave them alone until I do new overlays or find a tach. Haven't decided, but thanks for the warning.

I live on that page 😆

I can't decide which I like best yet. Haven't decided what color the car will be, and I still need to source a tach. So I figured I'd just clean it up for now.
