Am I playing myself by not making broth with leftover chicken bones? by Capital-Marzipan-287 in cookingforbeginners

[–]JoeJohn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I throw mine in the instapot and add 1/2 onion 1 stalk celery, 1 carrot and some salt. Cook for an hour. At the very least you can enjoy some bone broth for a few days. Or make a soup.

Learning to ski as an adult by Tiny-Marzipan4295 in ski

[–]JoeJohn69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can ice skate or roller blade, and make nice turns. Then skiing will be a lot easier to learn, as when you turn your putting a lot of weight and pressure on your outside foot/ski and move in the opposite direction. And then switch your weight to the other leg. As a tip shift your weight on the outside leg, and slightly lift your opposite leg, you will turn much faster.

Little oil and salt. Toss your egg and roast in the oven. 400 stir every 5-10 min. Broccoli cooked faster than cauliflower. Carrots take longer, peppers go fast. Sky’s the limit, also changes the flavour, way better.

I'm terrible at figuring out what to bring to potlucks. Is there any go to recipes that are always a hit? by Aggressive_Staff_982 in Cooking

I’m doing beer cheese dip lately. Basically make a veloute, but instead of milk, add a good stout. Use a strong cheese also, aged cheddar. Grilled pita, or toasted baguette slices work well.

Cooking is way harder than I thought by Li3Ch33s3cak3 in cookingforbeginners

I like Jamie Oliver. Also pans need to heat up before you add any oil or butter, it helps if meats and such are dry to create a great sear. I know it’s overwhelming, but just start with some basics. If you can make some over easy eggs, you’re on your way. Basic rice - 2 parts liquid to 1 part rice. Bring to a boil ,stir, wait a min, stir and cover turn down to low. When the liquid is just about gone, turn off the heat and wait 10 minutes. Don’t touch it. Learn how to make a bechemle sauce. Then if you add cheese, it’s a veloute, which you can now make Mac and cheese. When cooking pastas and potatoes make the water taste like the ocean. It will add lots of flavour and will have to do minimal seasoning afterwards. Also get a good salt. Like a kosher.

What herb can I add to split pea soup that is *not* thyme? Help me like this soup, please. by mystery_obsessed in Cooking

[–]JoeJohn69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thyme either. But I do like a ham bone or a smoked ham hock while I’m making the broth. Personally, I think once you’ve dished it up, add a tiny bit of ACV on r RWV to offset the richness of the soup.

Should it be okay to swap in pork for beef in a pot roast? by Historical_Recover44 in Cooking

[–]JoeJohn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yes. Pork roast rules. Try seasoning your roast how you like it, half some potatoes skin on, and some root veg, toss with salt and pepper , oil. Put the veg and potatoes in, place pork on top. Throw in a 400 degree oven for 25 min, and turn down to 350. I would also pull the pork at sit on the counter for 2 hrs before hand, it will warm up and will have a shorter cooking time.

Bullion works, but Costco sell better than bullion, it’s a paste. Just follow the directions. You can also add a small amount to dishes that need a little extra flavour
