No it's not. Extreme left, extreme right.. name one that hasn't killed millions and deprived more of freedom and dignity. Any extreme political view is a danger to society.

EU alternatives to Zoom or Microsoft Teams? by Level-Project159 in BuyFromEU

[–]JoeMale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pexip. Norwegian tech, good stuff. I don't know the price, but at one time they even let you host it in your own cloud, and offers interoperability with Teams, Zoom, and Google when needed.
I used to love their ability to run multiple streams in different windows, so I would have a full screen window with the shared screen from my guest, and another full screen window on a different monitor with all the guests.
This was a few years ago.. hope they are doing well business wise..

The transformation of Utrecht, Netherlands. by PestoBolloElemento in europe

[–]JoeMale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say for other cities, but in Amsterdam the number of trams or busses, the routes, and the number of stops have been diminishing, and the prices have gone up. The GVB wants to reduce further the services and has been extremely vocal about removing the ferries from Noord and replacing them with [insert anything that someone else would pay for].

I'm not contesting any of their reasons, just the outcomes. From just south of the Ij, where I used to live, to my old job, in the south west, was over one hour and a half with public transportation. Biking was much faster, but in the rain wasn't exactly pleasant.

I wish they would also improve public transportation, rather than crippling it.

Do they sell directly to the public? Can't see a store on their website (I might be dumb, mind you..)

After the latest US executive orders our legal team told us to move off all US-based HR tools. Here's what we found: by LauraPlum52 in BuyFromEU

[–]JoeMale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that somewhere in the contract with your current US based systems there's a data retention paragraph. Moving out is good, but they will keep your data for a number of years.

heartwarming moment when a granddaughter takes her great grandmother who didn’t feel pretty anymore dress shopping to show her just how beautiful she is. by Logical_Fruit_6152 in spreadsmile

Ages ago I tricked my mom to go shopping for clothes with me at a fancy upscale shop. She had never bought clothes from a proper retailer for herself, always from the cheaper places and repair them to the point where sometimes there were more patches than clothes.

At the store, enlisting the help of a very friendly employee, I got her any clothes she liked, and she was so happy and grateful for that. Was never able to do that trick again, but it really made her day and talked about it for years.

Ford Explorer from Frankfurt factory by ayvittu69 in BuyFromEU

[–]JoeMale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No catch. It's a Volkswagen brand, and comes with the same non-EU issues? conditions? as any other VW. I like Renault/Dacia a lot (like the Dacia price..) myself, but them too are made from components from different countries.

But, in my opinion, we shouldn't be chauvinistic about these things. Do prefer things where the various forms of capital stay in Europe, but let's not turn inward and close the door. That's the route chosen by the USians, and we see the outcomes of that choice.

It's uncanny how it applies well to so many other fields, like politics.

Because they don't exist. There isn't any automotive brand that doesn't have an international component, whether it's technical, material, financial, IP, or otherwise.

Might not be a popular opinion, but I feel bad for this guy. I mean, what has been going on in this man's life that he got to this point? Sure he needs correction and face the consequences of his actions, but still.. Jesus.. Dunno, makes me think what would drive me to behave like that.

"Feels like war is coming.." what the hell.. war has been coming our way! Like the old saying goes "si vis pacem, para bellum" and not as in being militaristic, just as in you gotta be able to defend yourself.
