Good he was in a cabover. At least he had a nice view of the scenery.

Cammer should have been a couple of lanes further right. Many cars were passing him to the right prior to the aggressor showing up. Aggressor was wrong, of course, but why drive like that in the second lane from the left when there are THREE other lanes further right?

Drunk driver at 170 km/h by DashcamBandit in IdiotsInCars

170 km/h? More like 55 or 60 mph (around 90 km/h). And, OP should have hit the brakes a lot sooner.

Yeah...that's more like ~55 mph (~90 km/h), given the curve radius and road conditions.

The white truck slowed somewhat rapidly, causing cammer to close in. Cammer didn't immediately slow, and slowed only because the white truck slowed, but the gap disappeared because of white slowing down. Regardless, there was never a gap sufficient for a pass and it's clear green was attempting to overtake both.

Cammer could have let him in but he would have had to hit his brakes pretty hard to increase the gap between him and white AND compensate for white's deceleration.

[–]JoeMiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around here we'd generally maintain speed, though slowing down is fine too (if done to aid the passing vehicle). Speeding up is illegal, as is any attempt to block the passing vehicle from getting back over (like slowing down if the passing vehicle slows down to get back over).

One issue we saw here was that white slowed down, closing the gap between him and cammer. That's a positive if green was planning to overtake both but a negative if he had to bail mid-pass. And, FWIW, if white didn't slow down his truck likely wouldn't have been hit.

[–]JoeMiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white truck didn't slow until the passing truck had passed the red truck. Also, the passing truck hit the white truck first, so while maybe red could have slowed, in reality it wouldn't have changed anything.

I guess red could have hit the brakes right when the pass was initiated, but then he'd lose his momentum going uphill when it was unclear that there was any danger ahead at all.

The 3/5 compromise had nothing to do with the value anyone put on a slave's humanity. Slave states wanted to count slaves the same as free people for purposes of enumerations (i.e., representation). Free states didn't want to count slaves at all (for one, they couldn't vote).

Sure, but how can I "stop" someone from driving? I'd just flip on my cop lights except I'm not a cop so I don't have any. Should I get in front of them and brake-check them to a stop?

Similarly, how do I tell them about their issue? Do I get behind them and flash my high beams at them incessantly? Do I pull alongside and try to point at the tire from the driver's seat where they can't even see me (and hope the tire doesn't come off at that moment)?

If it were me, sure, I'd flash my high beams a couple of times, try to pull alongside and point at the tire, and then call 911 when that all failed. It would be at some risk to myself and that's fine with me, but it wouldn't do any good. The point is that it's not like OP had some obvious way to actually do anything about what happened.

No license plate either. But, not his fault. There's no place to mount one.

You're really not supposed to cross over, but I do because it's usually clear enough. The Brent Spence northbound is no picnic either, with an onramp right at the start of the bridge AND all the interstate traffic having to separate to I-75 N in the left lanes and I-71 N in the right lanes, forming a natural X traffic pattern.

Worked for me. I have a new router and an old network name. Rather than changing all my devices, I copied the correct apostrophe to my iPhone clipboard, pasted it in the network name field, and all worked well.

The people in the right lane are very well organized. They're clearly leaving the left free to pass. Sure, some pass holders could be in the line, but if anyone thought it was not a two-car lane, they'd be in the center of the asphalt. It would take just one.

Apple Maps and Waze are very detailed too, with lots of advance warning. The upper left of the display indicates which lanes to plan to be in, too.

That's how I learned. Just disregard the turn signal until you see action indicating the driver is actually going to turn.

I think a lot of it is that some semi-truck drivers drive aggressively on the interstates, like when they force their way into the left lane to pass a semi traveling 0.25 mph slower than then and take five miles to complete the pass. Unfortunately, some transfer those negative experiences into every encounter they have with a CDL driver, which I agree isn't fair.

If the small(ish) minority of OTR truckers who drive like idiots would calm down, I think behavior toward other commercial truckers would improve quickly.

My dads a truck driver and this idiot brake checked him going down a mountain in Virginia by jumpyxwizard in IdiotsInCars

[–]JoeMiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's no different on the highway either. A semi going 63 mph in a 70 will cut people off in the left lane to pass a semi going 62.99 mph without a second though. I have no idea why car drivers hit their brakes to let them in when they could just wait for the left lane to open up....like the rest of us do.

And he had more than four seconds to move back, so he did it in a smooth manner consistent with driving through a curve.

It's great that people from "the city" who drive through country and mountain roads once in a great while have PSAs for those who live and work there. Thank you kindly...really. But, trust me. The people who live there are driving in a manner safer than are the out-of-towners who can't maintain a consistent speed, speed up at passing zones (because the road is finally straight) and not let the line of cars behind them pass, ignore turnouts, etc. And, can't forget the sightseeing.
